I am so pleased to finally have this one in hand. Zorro has been a character close to my heart since I was a kid, captivated by the swashbuckling masked vigilante carving his iconic “Z” into the world of adventure fiction. From Johnston McCulley’s original 1919 novel “The Curse of Capistrano” to the classic TV series and beloved films, Zorro has endured for over a century as one of the greatest heroic archetypes ever created. So let’s take a look at the Zorro Hero H.A.C.K.S. figure by Boss Fight Studios in hand review! Boss Fight Studios has been doing incredible work with their Vitruvian H.A.C.K.S. line, and seeing them bring Zorro into that system is such a natural fit. This figure draws directly from the original novels, which I think is a really cool choice. Rather than tying the design to any one film or TV adaptation, we get a classic, timeless take on the Fox of Capistrano that feels pulled right off the pages of McCulley’s stories. At just 4 inches tall, this figure packs in a surprising amount of detail and articulation. The sculpt captures that dashing silhouette perfectly, from the flowing cape to the iconic wide-brimmed hat. And because this is H.A.C.K.S. compatible, you can swap parts with anything else in the Vitruvian universe, which opens up some really fun possibilities for customizers and collectors alike. The accessory count here is generous. You get his rapier and bullwhip, extra hands designed to hold each one securely, the hat and cape, a figure stand, and my personal favorite inclusion, an unmasked Don Diego de la Vega head. Being able to display him as the charming nobleman or the masked avenger gives this figure so much personality on the shelf. We want to give a huge thanks to Big Bad Toy Store for sending us this Zorro Hero H.A.C.K.S. Figure for review, and if he has been on your must have list, you can still grab him now at Big Bad Toy Store.

Packaging

The card art depicts Zorro mid-action against a moonlit sky, his black cape billowing as he swings both his rapier and bullwhip, with a desert canyon landscape stretching out behind him. Inside the blister, you can see the figure in his all-black masked outfit alongside the alternate Don Diego de la Vega head, rapier, and hat, all nestled against a tan paper insert.

The back of the card features a rich desert sunset scene with cacti silhouettes framing a photo of the figure in full costume, alongside a detailed character bio recounting Don Diego de la Vega’s origins, from his time studying swordsmanship in Madrid to his transformation into a masked champion of the oppressed. I like how the card art by Ty Römsa on the left panel shows Zorro on horseback in a stylized silhouette, giving the whole cardback a classic pulp adventure feel that suits the literary roots of the character.

Here’s a closer look at everything you get once you pop Zorro out of the blister. Alongside the figure and his cape, you’ve got the Don Diego de la Vega unmasked head, the rapier with its silver swept-hilt guard, the iconic flat-brimmed hat, a black bullwhip, a pair of alternate gripping hands, and a figure stand.

Figure Details

Clad in head-to-toe black, Zorro looks fantastic with all those layered fabric textures across the lace-up shirt, the wide sash at the waist, and the sculpted wrinkles running through his trousers and knee-high boots. I like how the cape drapes naturally over his shoulders with a high collar that frames the masked face and flat-brimmed hat, giving the whole outfit a cohesive silhouette at this 4-inch scale.

You can see how the profile view really highlights the layered construction of Zorro’s outfit, with the gauntlet-style gloves adding a nice chunky detail at the wrists and the boots showing distinct soles that separate them from the trouser sculpt. His hat sits snugly over the masked head, and from this side you get a great sense of how the cape hangs with real weight, falling straight down from that high collar without flaring out unnaturally.

From this side profile, you can see the coiled bullwhip tucked against Zorro’s hip, with the sculpted rope detail wrapping tightly before trailing down past his thigh. One thing I noticed right away is how the belt buckle and small pouched details along the waistline add a nice bit of visual interest that breaks up the all-black color scheme.

Here’s a closer look at the back of the figure, where that cape really steals the show. The sculpted folds cascade from the high collar down to just above the ankles, with deep, organic creases that give the soft plastic real cloth-like character, and the small silver conchos ringing the hat’s crown are a subtle touch you wouldn’t catch from the front.

Armed with both his rapier and bullwhip, Zorro looks like he’s right in the middle of a moment here, and the swept-hilt guard on that rapier has a gorgeous silver finish with its ornate cage and scrollwork detail. The whip has a great sculpted braided texture along its length, and it holds a nice curved shape that gives you plenty of posing options without flopping around.

Zorro’s face sculpt really shines here, with the thin mustache, slightly furrowed brow, and the black mask sitting flush against his skin, all framed perfectly beneath the brim of that hat. I’m really digging how the whip arcs overhead with that stiff braided cord holding its shape so well, creating a great sense of motion while the rapier’s silver guard catches your eye down at his hip.

The whip really steals the show here, arcing high above Zorro’s head with a wild, serpentine curve that gives this whole pose a tremendous sense of energy and motion. It’s cool to see how well the braided cord holds that exaggerated shape on its own, letting you get creative with the posing without needing any support.

A close-up reveals the sharp detail in Zorro’s face sculpt, from the subtle creases around his eyes beneath the mask to the neatly sculpted thin mustache that sits just above his pursed lips. The lace-up detail on his shirt is worth noting here too, with individually sculpted cord crisscrossing through tiny eyelets and a peek of skin tone beneath, adding a welcome bit of color contrast to the otherwise all-black torso.

The rapier’s swept-hilt guard really earns its spotlight here, with that bulbous pommel and the delicate cage of curved bars wrapping around the grip in bright silver that pops against all that black. Something I appreciate here is how the cape’s hem breaks into ragged, organic points at the bottom edge, adding a worn, adventurous quality to the overall silhouette. You will notice that Zorro’s hat is indeed removeable.

A close-up reveals the warm skin tone peeking through the mask’s eye cutouts, where you can make out the sculpted brown irises and a focused, slightly downward gaze that gives this head sculpt real personality. The silver conchos fastening the cape at the collar are crisp little accents, and the high collar’s textured fabric sculpt frames his jawline and that thin mustache perfectly.

Sporting the Don Diego de la Vega unmasked head, Zorro takes on a completely different personality, with that confident smirk and slicked-back dark hair trading the mysterious masked vigilante for a charming nobleman who looks like he’s enjoying every second of the deception. The rapier’s blade has a nice matte black finish along its length that contrasts sharply with the bright silver of the swept-hilt guard, and those alternate gripping hands lock onto the accessories with a satisfying, secure fit.

Here’s a closer look at the Don Diego de la Vega head swap, and that smirk is doing so much heavy lifting. The sculpted laugh lines framing his mouth, the slightly raised left eyebrow, and the way his slicked-back hair tapers into clean sideburns all come together to sell a man who’s thoroughly enjoying his double life.
