Star Wars The Vintage Collection Jabba the Hutt Playset In Hand Review
The Jabba the Hutt Playset from Star Wars: The Vintage Collection is the kind of release that takes me right back to being a kid, sitting on the floor with my original Kenner figures, recreating that incredible throne room scene from Return of the Jedi. Jabba’s palace has always been one of the most fascinating corners of the Star Wars universe. The creatures, the music, the danger lurking behind every curtain. It’s a place where every background character has a story, and Jabba himself sits at the center of it all like a grotesque king holding court. Getting a proper Vintage Collection treatment for this iconic set piece feels like something collectors have been waiting on for a long time. And Hasbro did not hold back on the extras here. You’re getting Jabba himself, Salacious B. Crumb (because what’s the throne without that cackling little menace perched on the armrest?), the interrogation droid 8D8, the dais with aquarium and pipe, rugs, pillows, goblets, a plate of food. This is a full scene in a box. The level of detail packed into this 3.75-inch scale set is genuinely impressive, and it gives collectors so many options for display. So let’s take a look at the Star Wars: The Vintage Collection Jabba the Hutt Playset in hand review! We want to give a huge thanks to Big Bad Toy Store for sending us this Star Wars: The Vintage Collection Jabba the Hutt Playset for review, and if it has been on your must have list, you can still grab it now at Big Bad Toy Store.
Packaging
The box art features a warm orange desert gradient with Jabba lounging on his stone dais, flanked by several throne room denizens on the left side of the illustration. The packaging leans into that classic Kenner aesthetic, with the playset and its included accessories, like the hookah pipe piece, goblets, and rugs, all displayed across the front window.

The top of the box showcases four diorama photos of the playset in action, with Jabba posed on his dais alongside Salacious B. Crumb, 8D8, and several other figures from the throne room scene. One photo offers a close-up of Jabba’s face sculpt, showing the layered folds of skin and those signature orange-red eyes.

The playset contents sit inside the brown cardboard tray, with the bagged figures and accessories separated into individual plastic sleeves. I like how they included a separate bag for the smaller pieces like the goblets, plate, and food, keeping everything organized right out of the box.

The card art on the right side features a moody still of 8D8 standing in Jabba’s palace, with the droid’s off-white frame showing patches of dark red and brown weathering across the torso. Through the blister, the figure itself mirrors that look nicely, with a cream-colored body, rust-orange accents on the chest panel, and those signature flat, sunken facial features on the head sculpt.

The back of 8D8’s card features the classic Vintage Collection layout with a photo of the figure standing against a blue cardback, showing its tall, lanky frame in that cream and light tan deco. The bio text describes 8D8 as a smelter droid who assisted EV-9D9 in terrorizing Jabba the Hutt’s droid operatives, printed in multiple languages across the right side of the card.

The smaller format card art features a close-up still of Salacious B. Crumb perched in Jabba’s palace, capturing his wrinkled, reddish-brown skin and those wide, bat-like ears. Through the blister, the figure’s small frame shows off his spindly limbs and long clawed fingers, all cast in a warm tan and pinkish-brown color scheme.

The back of Salacious B. Crumb’s card carries the standard Vintage Collection with legal ease and numbered VC66A.

Figure Details
Jabba sits reclined on his dais with that signature slouched posture, his green and yellowish-tan skin tones blending smoothly across the folds of his belly and tail. Flanking the playset are the carded Salacious B. Crumb and 8D8 figures, while the included accessories, from the trio of rugs and stacked pillows to the goblets, plate, and translucent green aquarium like hookah pipe piece, are all laid out in front.

Jabba reclines on his fully dressed dais with the maroon rugs, stacked pillows, and goblets all arranged across the stone platform, while Salacious B. Crumb sits perched in front of him with those long, spindly fingers splayed out on the ledge. 8D8 stands just behind the tail section, and the translucent green hookah pipe piece sits to Jabba’s right, its clear tubing curving up from the ornate bronze-colored base.

Jabba’s face sculpt shows deeply carved wrinkles and layered skin folds across his chin and jowls, with those narrow orange-red eyes sitting heavy beneath ridged brow lines. The color gradient from olive green along his back and head to warm golden tan across his belly and throat has a really natural, organic quality to it.

Salacious B. Crumb who is a small Kowakian monkey-lizard, sits front and center on the dais edge, his long, spindly toes gripping the stone ledge while those oversized clawed fingers splay out in front of him. A small dark-colored critter rests on one of the maroon rugs nearby, and a bronze goblet sits just off to the left of the platform’s edge.

Jabba holds his hookah pipe piece, with the clear tubing running down to the ornate aquarium base beside him, its translucent green bulb catching the light nicely. I like the way the sculpted skin texture on his tail transitions from tight, fine wrinkles near the belly to broader, overlapping folds along the back.

Jabba holds his hookah pipe with the clear tubing arcing over to the aquarium set piece, its ornate gold-toned base housing a translucent green bulb at the bottom. Salacious Crumb, sits just in front of the dais surrounded by the included rugs, goblets, and plate accessories, while 8D8 stands off to the far left.

The full playset is on display here with Jabba reclined on his dais, 8D8 standing to his left near the pillow stack, and Salacious B. Crumb crouched near the front edge of the platform. The hookah pipe set piece sits to Jabba’s right with its clear tubing and translucent green bulb, while the maroon rugs, goblets, and plate accessories fill out the stone surface nicely.

The stacked pillows beside Jabba show a nice mix of maroon and tan soft goods fabric, each one plump enough to hold its shape against his bulk. Nearby, the included plate and goblet accessories sit on the stone dais, their bronze-toned finish matching the ornate detailing on the hookah pipe piece. You will notice the black frog that escaped Jabba’s grasp!

A close-up reveals the sculpted texture around Jabba’s mouth and chin, where deep creases separate the heavy jowls from the thick, ringed folds of his neck. That head sculpt is really solid, with the glossy finish on his lower lip adding a wet, slimy quality that fits the character perfectly.

The close-up shows the accessories tucked along Jabba’s tail section, with two olive-toned goblets sitting between a deep maroon rug and a lighter pink one, both made from soft goods fabric with a slightly fuzzy texture. A small plate with a tan food piece rests on the maroon rug, its dark greenish rim complementing the goblet color.

8D8 stands tall behind what appears to be part of Jabba’s tail, with the droid’s silver-painted claw hands hanging open at his sides. The dark blue chest vents on his torso pop against the cream-colored body, and those scattered orange scuff marks across the shoulder area give him a well-worn, palace-ready look.

The rear view of 8D8 shows his cream-colored torso tapering into a narrow waist, with sculpted panel lines and mechanical detailing running down the back of his legs. His spindly, elongated frame has a nice lanky proportion at this scale, and the rust-orange weathering along the shoulder joints and upper back adds some welcome visual contrast.

A close-up of the aquarium like hookah pipe set piece shows the ornate gold base with filigree scrollwork wrapping around the midsection, separating the lower translucent green bulb from the clear dome on top. The sculpted spigot and valve details on either side of the base give the piece a nice steampunk-meets-Hutt-palace feel at this scale. Notice that you can open it in half and place the included black frog in the bottom half so it looks like he is swimming around!

Here you can see a close up of the soft goods animal skin rug. You get 3 of these included in the playset. The animal skin rugs have a tan hide-like finish with a slightly leathery texture and clean, squared-off edges. It’s a nice little set dressing piece that adds some lived-in flavor to the dais display.

The top surface of the dais shows a sculpted stone slab texture in light gray, with deep recessed grooves separating irregular flagstone shapes and subtle veining and weathering scattered across the individual sections. Along the bottom edge, four sculpted heads with handles are attached to the front of the platform.

The underside of the dais reveals four small black wheels recessed into the corners of the platform, designed to let the entire throne roll across a flat surface. Scattered across the bottom are molded structural ridges and support rails in that same light gray plastic, with a rough, utilitarian texture that contrasts nicely with the detailed stone finish on top. The level of mechanical detail in the sculpt is impressive for a 3.75-inch scale playset, with distinct valve shapes and segmented piping running across the full length of the platform. You will notice 4 very subtle wheels on the bottom which allows you to roll the throne around.
