D.I.R.E. Hawk officially goes on sale today, October 1, at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET through Walmart, with limited quantities also available through Hasbro Pulse. The G.I. Joe Classified Series 225, D.I.R.E. Hawk, 6 Inch Action Figure is priced at $42.97 and should be in stock for immediate shipping. Walmart is also rolling the figure out to stores, so checking locally may be worthwhile if the online inventory disappears quickly. This has been an unusual release to follow. D.I.R.E. Hawk first showed up early at some Walmart stores, then briefly appeared on Walmart’s website ahead of today’s official drop. That early availability gave us enough time to order the figure, get him in hand, and publish a full D.I.R.E. Hawk G.I. Joe Classified Series review. D.I.R.E. Hawk is built entirely from existing Classified Series tooling, including the Rattler Gunner body, Raptor wings, and Ghost Viper helmet and alternate hands, but it all comes together surprisingly well here. Our review takes a much closer look at the figure, his accessories, and how all of that reuse works together before today’s official sale begins. We now also have Walmart’s official product images and the purchase link ready for the 10 AM PT launch.

G.I. Joe Classified Series 225, D.I.R.E. Hawk, 6 Inch Action Figure
The mechanical flight rig absolutely dwarfs D.I.R.E. Hawk, with chunky black housings and a gold central body matching the dark gear over his gray suit. A rifle and two pistols give him a surprisingly conventional set of firearms beside all that strange machinery.

The back artwork gives D.I.R.E. Hawk translucent green wings and energy curling around his forearms, which makes the gold helmet stand out even more against the black armor. The smaller callouts also highlight his masked face and both head options, including that wonderfully strange insect-like helmet that is a repaint of the Ghost Viper.

The translucent green discs set into the black housings have a cool molded radial pattern, almost like mechanical fans buried inside the flight rig.

D.I.R.E. Hawk’s wings are made up of long, sharply pointed feather shapes, with shorter layered rows filling the inner edges. I love how the mechanical supports give way to something that looks almost birdlike once the wings spread out.

The narrow green eyes and silver toothlike ridges give D.I.R.E. Hawk’s masked head a wonderfully nasty robotic expression.

I love how D.I.R.E. Hawk’s translucent wings and alternate hands look under the green lighting. The light shines through the translucent plastic and creates a really cool glowing effect across the wings and hands.

The translucent green energy effects end in hooked, beaklike shapes for D.I.R.E. Hawk’s alternate fists, giving both hands a strange spectral-bird look.

D.I.R.E. Hawk’s gold helmet, a repaint of the Ghost Viper helmet, has deep black channels and small silver nodes that make the faceplate look pieced together from mechanical panels.

D.I.R.E. Hawk’s unhelmeted head has tightly sculpted curls, orange eyes surrounded by smeared black paint, and a dark pointed symbol centered on his forehead. That tiny flash of red in the eyes looks especially good against all the black around them.

I love the small “COBRA AIRBORNE” patch on D.I.R.E. Hawk’s sleeve, tucked just below the heavy layered shoulder armor, which is a reuse of the Cobra Rattler Gunner figure.

From the back, the flight rig has gold brackets with large circular fasteners over long black panels, making the whole assembly look like a heavy mechanical harness strapped onto D.I.R.E. Hawk.

D.I.R.E. Hawk is wonderfully ridiculous as a whole, almost disappearing beneath that enormous burst of translucent green.
