I am officially stepping into a new review space with this one and I have to admit, I am pretty fired up about it. The Alien franchise is legendary in sci-fi horror, and now from the 2024 film Alien: Romulus comes a piece that feels like it was pulled straight off the screen and into our collections. NECA’s Suspended Lab Xenomorph XX121 Deluxe Action Figure captures that unforgettable moment after the creature’s brutal clash with the Weyland-Yutani security forces, when it hangs from the ceiling of the ship’s lab, its acid blood having burned through the floor below. That single cinematic beat, the aftermath of chaos and the scientific obsession with harnessing the DNA of the ultimate killing machine, is frozen here in plastic form and I love when a figure tells a very specific story like this. What really excites me is how NECA leaned into the display concept, including posable wires that allow you to actually suspend the maimed Xenomorph, along with a detailed acid-burned lab ceiling display piece designed to mount on your wall or even your ceiling. The figure itself features an articulated jaw, a sliding inner jaw, and a wired tail, giving collectors multiple ways to recreate that haunting suspended pose. Packaged in a clear collectors’ display box, this release feels like it was engineered to command attention, and I cannot wait to dive deeper into how it looks, how it hangs, and how it transforms a shelf into a scene straight out of Alien: Romulus. Before we dive into the details, we wanted to send a special thank you to Big Bad Toy Store for sending this figure for us to review and share it with you. You can order the Alien Romulus Suspended Lab Xenomorph XX121 Deluxe Figure on BBTS!

The front of the box features a large, angular window that frames the Xenomorph inside like a containment chamber. The figure is mounted against a circular laboratory ceiling display, with sculpted tubing and mechanical elements radiating around the body. Thin neon green line accents trace the black exterior panels, creating a sharp geometric border around the clear window while keeping the focus on the suspended figure within.

The back of the box features a large circular cutout window that exposes the rear portion of the suspended laboratory ceiling display. You can see how the figure is anchored into the diorama structure, with mounting points and sculpted mechanical elements visible from behind. Below that, three hexagonal image panels showcase different angles of the Xenomorph within the environment, reinforcing that this release is built as a display focused piece rather than a standard loose figure presentation.

The side of the box continues the angular window design but shifts the view slightly, giving a clearer look at the layered biomechanical tubing wrapping across the torso and around the display mount. The glossy black exterior contrasts with the interior tray, and the curved tail is visible through the side cutout. The geometric framing remains consistent, keeping the presentation cohesive from every angle.

This side panel includes a tall vertical window that reveals the Xenomorph’s profile inside the packaging. From this angle, you can clearly see the elongated head dome, the ribbed torso structure, and part of the segmented tail extending downward. A large monochrome image of the Xenomorph in the lab setting runs along the panel beside the window, framed by the same angular green line detailing.

Figure Details

This full body shot shows the entire suspended lab display assembled. The Xenomorph hangs centered within the broken circular ceiling structure, arms extended outward with cables and thick ribbed hoses wrapping around the torso. The tail drops straight down and curves slightly at the tip, giving you a clear sense of the overall height and how the creature is integrated into the environmental frame.

This head close up really shows the deterioration. The dome is cracked open with large sections missing, and the exposed areas look brittle and rotted, with uneven, torn edges. The pale outer surface contrasts against darker, decomposing tissue underneath, and the mouth area reveals jagged teeth surrounded by sculpted decay that makes the entire head appear like it has been breaking down for some time.

The mid torso is on full display here, with tightly stacked organic ribbing running vertically down the abdomen. Thin red and black cables drape across the chest, some appearing to pierce into the body. There are multiple areas of discolored rot along the ribs and sides, with greenish and yellow staining embedded into the sculpted tissue.

This lower torso and tail shot shows the elongated abdominal section transitioning into the segmented tail. Each tail segment is ringed and ridged, tapering gradually as it extends outward. The tip has a rough, corroded brown finish that contrasts against the darker body.

A closer look at the surrounding hoses and cables shows ribbed white tubing with subtle yellowing along the grooves, alongside thinner black and red wires that weave around the figure. The broken ceiling edge behind them has jagged, uneven texture, reinforcing the idea that this was torn open rather than cleanly cut.

This close up really lets you see how the articulated jaw is engineered. The lower jaw is hinged and can open wide, exposing the layered teeth and the darker, decayed tissue sculpt along the inside of the mouth. The hinge is well integrated into the cheek area, so when the jaw is closed it blends naturally into the surrounding organic ridges. You can also clearly see the sliding inner jaw extending forward from inside the mouth. It sits recessed when not deployed, then slides straight out along a small internal track, maintaining alignment with the outer jaw. The inner jaw has its own sculpted ridges and teeth, and the mechanism looks smooth and controlled, allowing you to display it partially extended or fully thrust outward without disrupting the overall head sculpt.

In this image, all four mounting holes are visible on the back panel, evenly spaced around the circular structure. The keyhole shaped cutouts make it clear that this piece is designed to be wall mounted, with the mounting points molded directly into the backing.

This rear close up shows the back of the Xenomorph’s torso mounted inside the broken ceiling ring. The spine runs straight down the center with layered, organic ridges stacked tightly along the length of the back. Several thick ribbed, organic, hoses are inserted directly into the body, protruding outward from the shoulder blade area and lower back, while thinner black and red cables weave around the torso. The surrounding ring edge looks jagged and torn, with uneven texture that frames the figure from behind and reinforces the suspended lab setup.
