Cartoon Collection Wave 21 Mini Comic Cover Teases New Characters

With the reveal of the She-Ra 40th anniversary MOTU Origins card designs, collector’s got a treat as a new era of the Cartoon Collection is upon us, bringing the Princess of Power line to fruition. In the 360 views of Cartoon Collection She-Ra, Mantenna, and Ram Man, we got a glimpse of the MOTU mini comic that is packed behind the figures, which revealed some amazing, yet critical, characters we could potentially see in the Cartoon Collection line. As the figures, revealed by the one and only Roy Juarez featuring the talented work of xxx, spun around the electric Lazy Susan, we could see Glimmer, Bow, the Sorceress, and Kowel on the right side of the mini comic and Leech on the left side of the mini comic. One caveat is that because the characters appear in the mini comic does not mean that they will be created into Cartoon Collection but we love to dream of the possibilities and showcase concepts for what these characters could look like in MOTU Origins form so let’s take a deeper look at the Cartoon Collection Wave 21 Mini Comic teases that are featured on the cover!

Bow

Bow is renowned as the best archer in all of Etheria. Equipped with an array of trick arrows, he uses his skills of illusion and his fierce patriotism for Etheria to fight the Evil Horde. Bow is also Princess Adora’s right hand man and best friend. You will notice on the vintage PoP version, that Bow was missing his signature mustache, later corrected by including 2 different heads in the MOTU Classics version.

Bow is a fictional character from the She-Ra: Princess of Power cartoon series produced by Filmation in the 1980s. He is one of the main characters and a member of the Great Rebellion, a group fighting against the tyrannical rule of Hordak and his Evil Horde.

Bow is depicted as a master archer and is considered the skilled marksman of the Great Rebellion. He is known for his accuracy and can hit targets with great precision from long distances. He wields a magical bow, which is powered by the Moonstone embedded in its center. This magical weapon allows him to shoot energy arrows, helping him in battles against enemies.

In terms of appearance, Bow has a muscular build, often seen wearing a turquoise and purple outfit with feather-like shoulder pads and a distinctive hat. He is depicted as a blonde-haired character with a playful and charismatic demeanor, often cracking jokes and lightening the mood during serious situations.

Bow is characterized as friendly, compassionate, and fiercely loyal to his comrades. He is particularly close to She-Ra, the princess-turned-rebel leader, and they share a strong bond throughout the series. Bow is often portrayed as the love interest of She-Ra, hinting at a romantic relationship between the two characters.

Aside from his archery skills, Bow is known to be resourceful and inventive. He often comes up with clever strategies, using gadgets or his quick thinking to aid the Rebellion in their fight against the Evil Horde. He is an essential member of the team due to his skills, charm, and unwavering commitment to the cause.

Overall, Bow is a beloved character in the She-Ra: Princess of Power cartoon series. With his archery prowess, sense of humor, and dedication to the cause, he plays a vital role in the adventures of She-Ra and the Great Rebellion, contributing to the show’s popularity among audiences.

The Princess of Power Bow vintage action figure was a popular figure from the 1980s. The figure was based on the character Bow from the animated television series “She-Ra: Princess of Power.”, except he did not have his signature mustache. He had 5 points of articulation like most of the action figures of the 1980’s at that time.

The vintage action figure of Bow stands at approximately 5.5 inches tall and is made of plastic. He is dressed in bright and colorful attire, featuring a red jacket with gold accents, matching pants, and white boots. Bow’s most recognizable feature is his distinctive helmet, which has heart-shaped cutouts on either side of his face.

The action figure comes with various accessories, including a crossbow, three arrows, a quiver, and a sword. The crossbow can be placed in Bow’s hand, and the arrows can be stored in the quiver on his back. The sword can be attached to his waist for easy access during battles.

The Princess of Power Bow vintage action figure is highly sought after by collectors and fans of the “She-Ra” series. Its vibrant design, nostalgic value, and connection to the popular animated show make it a prized item in the world of vintage toy collecting.

Glimmer

Glimmer is the Princess of Bright Moon, the very beautiful daughter of Queen Angella and King Micah. She was the original leader of the Great Rebellion of Etheria until Adora took over and helped to establish much of its support structure. One of the main characters when you think of the Great Rebellion, Glimmer has been made into action figure twice thus far, once for the vintage Princess of Power line of the 1980’s and next in the MOTU Classics line in the mid 2000’s. Let’s take a closer look below.

In an effort to bring girls into the action figure market, Mattel came up with the action doll in the Princess of Power line of the 1980’s. The vintage Glimmer Action Doll was released in 1984 by Mattel and came with a shimmery silver vest and skirt piece. She was dressed in pink and silver and had a jeweled pink staff. She had real rooted pink flowing hair that you could comb, and beautiful makeup on her face. She joined the rest of the rebellion in this new genre of action dolls.

Glimmer was later released as part of the MOTU Classics line by Mattel in 2012. In this release, she resembled her look in the 1980’s Filmation cartoon series, She-Ra Princess of Power. After getting Frosta for the Masterverse line, I think we know what we can expect.

Kowl

Kowl is a small, flying creature known for his ability to speak. His wings resemble large ears, and his overall appearance combines features of an owl and a koala, which is reflected in his name. It is noted that Kowl’s species is nearly extinct, with most of his relatives having passed away. Visually, Kowl is colored in melon shades, with yellow eyes, a purple beak, and a rainbow-like pattern on the inside of his ears. Kowl is characterized by his acerbic and sarcastic nature. He serves as a constant companion to the members of the Great Rebellion, often providing comic relief through his witty and sometimes slightly rude observations about the situations around him Despite his sharp wit, Kowl occasionally exhibits a cowardly side, similar to Cringer. For instance, in his first appearance in The Secret of the Sword, he hides under a table alongside Cringer during a battle. Kowl is one of the few Etherians who knows that Adora and She-Ra are the same person. The others with this knowledge include Light Hope, Loo-Kee, and Madame Razz. Additionally, Kowl is aware that Adora’s twin brother, Adam, is also He-Man.

Sorceress

The first time the Sorceress was teased for the Cartoon Collection was when Mattel surprised us a very cool stopmotion video by @stuntpuppetpictures, entitled “Pearl of Power” featuring the MOTU Origins Cartoon Collection! If you want a recap of everything revealed thus far, be sure to check out our Masters of the Universe Full Fall 2024 Catalog Reveal article. In this video we Skeletor who obtains the “Pearl of Power” and gains incredible strength and He-Man battles against Skeletor to get it back. You will notice while Skeletor is holding that Pearl, we see image of the Sorceress inside! Could this be a tease for a Cartoon Collection Sorceress? Let’s take a look at the video below and explore this MOTU Origins “Pearl Power” Stopmotion Video that teases a Cartoon Collection Sorceress! Now this is just speculation on our part, but it is always fun to dream!

Here we can see images below from the “Pearl Power” Stopmotion Video by @stuntpuppetpictures, and you can clearly see the Sorceress’ image in the Pearl of Power! Now this could simply be the original Origins vintage style Sorceress figure, but it fun to speculate, right?

Filmation Sorceress

The Sorceress was my all time favorite character from the Filmation Cartoon Series, which I think is obvious given this is being written by your own Toy Sorceress! She was powerful, mystical, kind and wise, and I really loved how she changed form into a beautiful bird! Getting a Cartoon Collection of the Sorceress would be incredible as if we look at the MOTU Club Grayskull version of 2018, you will see how wonderful she can look in her animated style!

According to: The Sorceress | Wiki Grayskull | Fandom:

The Sorceress was the mistress and guardian of the Secrets of Castle Grayskull, the source of He-Man’s great power. Although considered one of the three most powerful beings on Eternia, she exemplified humility and a truly selfless nature, never seeking credit for her efforts or aid. She dwelled alone within Castle Grayskull, keeping watch over Eternia and acting as a guide to He-Man.

Once named Teela Na, her home, the village of Nowella, was attacked, and subsequently conquered, by Morgoth and his allies Ferros, Repta, and Rachney, servants of the Evil Horde. With the aid of an old storyteller’s rhyme: In barren places find ye hope/And where no water springs, no plant grows, no wind blows/Find all you need…), Teela Na sought out Castle Grayskull, which she hoped would help her find a way to defeat her captors. Just as she was about to succumb to the Eternian wastelands, the mystical fortress appeared before Teela Na’s eyes, and she was invited inside by a mysterious voice. Once inside she came across an old woman, her predecessor as the Sorceress; Kuduk Ungol. Her predecessor invited her to take up the mantle of Castle Grayskull’s protector, and explained her duties as such: Teela Na accepted the offer and immersed herself in the Pool of Power, which inundated her with the powers of Castle Grayskull. Once she had taken her place as the guardian of Castle Grayskull, the Sorceress returned to Nowella and overthrew the invaders before returning to her new home inside Castle Grayskull.

Sorceress in action figure form

The Sorceress was first released as an action figure by Mattel back in 1986, as part of the last wave of figures and fetches a very high price on the vintage aftermarket. Always thought of as a grail piece by vintage MOTU collectors, the Sorceress had a very cute vintage charm but didn’t quite reflect her look in the Filmation cartoon series. Pictured below is a beautiful carded version of the Sorceress, and an uncarded vintage version, from my very own personal collection. You might recogize here from my avatar!, Yes this is the actual “The Toy Sorceress”!

MOTU Classics then released a version the Sorceress in 2012, but again this one was based on the vintage action figure with a lot more detail and articulation in the MOTU Classics style.

Sorceress

The Sorceress was released in action figure form in 2018 as part of the MOTU Classics Club Grayskull line by Super 7. She looked exactly like she did in the Filmation Cartoon series, and came with an alternate head sculpt and a Zoar companion bird with perch.

The next version of the Sorceress came in 2021 as part of Wave 7 in the MOTU Origins line. This was a perfect Origins Style homage to the original vintage 1986 Sorceress action figure! And finally the last figure we got was the recent Masterverse Revelation Sorceress shown below.

Leech

Leech would be an amazing addition to the Cartoon Collection as his Filmation form as already teased on MOTU Origins card art and he was part of a leak that happened during the week of San Diego Comic Con 2024.

Since then, the Small Tiny Toy Store has put the figure up for preorder, confirming the figure is coming to the line.

A cartoon style Leech was teased on Rokkon’s card art and it is great to see him on the list! We already have Leech in the MOTU Origins line, but what we don’t have yet is a Cartoon Collection Leech! This card back teases the Filmation version of Leech! Here we can see what is clearly illustrated a Filmation Style Leech and Hordak!
