Clawful Coming to the MOTU Chronicles Line

Word just came in that there is an unexpected figure making his way into the MOTU Chronicles line, and this is exactly the kind of news that keeps collecting MOTU exciting even before the Masters of the Universe movie has officially hit theaters. We received hard evidence from an anonymous source confirming the crustacean warrior, Clawful’s, inclusion in the lineup, though what remains a mystery for now is whether this will be a movie-based figure or a non-movie addition along the lines of Scareglow, who we previously discussed when we looked at the possibility of nonmovie figures joining the Chronicles and Core assortments. We actually consulted with one of our good friends who has screened the Masters of the Universe movie twice now, and they don’t recall seeing Clawful on screen, but of course anything is possible when it comes to blink-and-you-miss-it cameos or scenes that may have been adjusted in post-production. Honestly, I’m hoping this signals that Mattel is starting to fold classic MOTU characters into the Chronicles assortments beyond just movie tie-ins, like they did with Scare Glow, because the Chronicles buck is genuinely impressive and the thought of seeing more deep cuts and beloved vintage characters realized at that scale and quality level makes me even more excited about the line. Clawful has always been one of those characters who benefits from a great sculpt, between those oversized claws, the shell-like armor, and that unmistakable color scheme, so the potential here is enormous regardless of which direction they take him. PLEASE NOTE: We don’t have official images just yet, so for now we’re working from what we know through the Masterverse New Eternia and MOTU Classics versions of the character as our visual reference points, but as soon as official images surface, we will be the first to let you know. MOTU Classics

Clawful was sculpted with his signature oversized crab claw and smaller pincer giving him an imposing silhouette. The burnt red and tan color scheme carries across his textured armor, furry trunks, and dark blue boots and belt, with a nice mix of matte and slightly glossy finishes throughout.

The back of the shell armor has a great level of sculpted detail, with circular indentations and layered plating that give it a real crustacean feel. The furry loincloth has a nice texture contrast against the smooth armor panels above and the tan skin tone of the legs below.

Clawful grips his green mace, which has a pointed crystalline head with multiple sharp facets. The dark blue spikes running along the edges of his shield are a nice touch to the design and that head sculpt with the deep-set eyes and ridged brows are really solid and thick.

The card art features a stone castle environment with lightning crackling across a yellow-green sky, framing Clawful inside the blister. A small green mace is packaged alongside him to his side.

Masterverse New Eternia

Clawful sports layered red armor over an orange-tan body, with oversized crustacean claws, a metallic blue belt, and matching blue greaves that taper into clawed feet. His accessories include a spiked helmet with sweeping blue horns, an orange chest armor piece with a translucent blue gem, a round orange shield, and a green mace with a looped handle.

The sculpted ridges running across Clawful’s red shell torso have a nice texture to them, carrying all the way from his chest up through the back of his head. His smaller claw has a textured, bumpy surface that contrasts well with the smooth inner grip of the oversized pincer.

From the back, Clawful’s shell armor has a rough, organic sculpt with raised barnacle-like detailing across the surface, and the two sweeping blue horns anchor firmly into the back plate. The red fur loincloth hangs with sculpted strands, and the blue greaves have a pebbly, scaled texture with a metallic sheen.

Clawful holds the green mace over his shoulder, and the translucent blue gem on his chest plate catches the light with a clean, jewel-like quality. Those metallic blue boots have a great pearlescent finish to them, with the sculpted fin-like toes adding a lot of character to the design.

The oversized claw has a great sense of weight to it, with deep ridged grooves running along the inner edge of the pincer and a pocked, crustacean-like texture across the entire surface. Clawful’s face has a furrowed brow and exposed lower fangs, framed by that red, bumpy head sculpt that blends seamlessly into the shell armor.

The packaging uses a deep blue and black color scheme with a stone-textured interior tray, framed by a windowed front that gives a clear view of the figure and all included accessories. The bottom section features metallic gold and blue gradient text against a black band.
