The Eternia MOTU Origins playset from Mattel Creations has fully funded with King Grayskull and the Moat Monster unlocked! This iconic set will be getting made thanks for the over 5K backers required for this campaign. With over 8K backers, the Moat Monster has been unlocked. Unfortunately, the campaign did not hit its goal of 10K, so we left Keclar and King Graysull for all on the table.
November 14, 2022 UPDATE: Eternia Funded, starting production soon
Congratulations to everyone who backed the Eternia Ultimate Battleground Playset crowdfund project! In an email from Mattel today, they let us know that the Eternia playset will now become reality and go into production soon! Those who backed in the first week will receive the Early Backer Bonus of King Grayskull! And for those 9291 fans who backed the project, everyone gets Moaty! Unfortunately, we did not unlock the last tier for Keclar the Elder and King Grayskull for all. Now that the campaign is over, Mattel put to rest all those speculations of another figure. Looks like we will not be getting Sherella, but it was fun to speculate!
According to the email from Mattel Creations:
A Win for Fans. When we first announced the Masters of the Universe Origins Eternia Playset Crowdfund, we knew it would be epic. Now we’re going to create Eternia for all the fans who made it happen. Now that the crowdfund has ended, we are excited to announce that 9,291 fans helped us make the Eternia Ultimate Battlefield Playset a reality. You even unlocked the Moat Monster figure tier! If you joined in the first week, you’ll get the Early Backer Bonus King Grayskull figure! We’re starting the production shortly, but you can check out the livestream anytime you want. October 21, 2022 UPDATE: 12K Bonus Tier Speculation
Tales from the rumor mill have everyone speculating that there will be a bonus 12K unlock tier for Eternia. yo_tengo_el_poder post this image on his IG account so let the speculation begin! Also, Mega Jay Retro discussed this possibility on one of his amazing videos this week so be sure to check that out as well!

Who could it be? The consensus that it might be Sharella, who was teased on the Wun-Dar card art!
Sharella
Sharella, is a fairly new character shown the Wun-Dar comic art on the back of his cardback. She is actually the Goddess. According to MOTU Lore and as written on the character bio for MOTU Classics, the Goddess’s real name is Sharella. But who really is Sharella and where did she come from?
According to the MOTU Classics Goddess Bio:
After the death of King Grayskull, the Power of the Universe was transferred from the Sword of He to the Council of Elders who hid it deep within his castle. Knowing the full sword was the key to channeling the power, they split it in two to prevent it from falling into the hands of evil. For five centuries they waited for a worthy heir to be born. During this time their spirit guide, the creature known as “The Goddess” of Etheria, trained secret heroic guardian to keep the two halves of the sword separated. Many of these brave warriors took the name “He-Man” in honor of the sword they protected giving birth to many different legends of the protector of Eternia.

According WikiGrayskull:
The Masters of the Universe Classics toy line has combined elements from all previous continuities, and as such has restored the Goddess to a position of importance in Eternian history. According to the biographies printed on the toys, the Goddess is Sharella, a spirit guide who consulted the Council of Elders between the death of King Grayskull and the lifetime of Prince Adam some 500 years later. During this time the Goddess trained “secret heroic guardians” such as Vikor, Wun-Dar, and Oo-Larr to protect the two halves of Grayskull’s “Sword of He” until a worthy heir emerged. The Classics storyline has yet to present any information about her activities during the present day, or her relationship (if any) with the Sorceress, Teela, and Prince Adam.
Goddess | Wiki Grayskull | Fandom
Sharella was originally conceived to part a heroic character in the mostly unproduced Powers of Grayskull line of 1987. She was seen on the box art for the Megator package running in the background. She was thought to have come with a Sword, bow, and quiver with arrows. Unfortunately for all of us, she was never produced as a figure in the 1987 Powers of Grayskull line.

Unfortunately, Sharella has never been an officially produced action figure, but if the Origins line makes a figure of her, they are going way deep into MOTU lore, and that is super exciting! Here we can see a custom by Hunter Knight. Created by using a Battleground Teela figure with a sculpted top and also re-sculpted lower arms. Her quiver was donated from a Young Justice Artemis action figure with new sculpted details and her bow is a cast from a Legolas figure with additional details, HKC did a magnificent job! So, this give you a little bit of an idea of what Sharella might look like in action figure form! So you could imagine Mattel using a Teela Origins buck as a basis for this figure.
Starring on the Wun-Dar comic card back art and in the packed in mini comic “Lost Legend”. In the mini comic, Wun-Dar also refers to Sharella as “The Goddess”. Sharella seems to be a pivitol character in the story. On the Comic Cardback art, we can see Sharella whelding a bow and arrow coming to Wun-Dar’s rescue, as he battles a storm of evil glowing skeleton warriors.

October 20, 2022 UPDATE: Moat Monster Unlocked at 8K Backers
Thanks to the addition of payment plans and the early bird King Grayskull figure, the MOTU Origins Eternia Playset is on fire and we saw the next tier unlock of the Moat Monster today. With over 8K backers, Eternia now comes with a super articulated homage to the vintage playset, the creature they dubbed the Moat Monster.

Moat Monster from the Vintage Playset
The Moat Monster creature is an homage to the to the vintage playset as this creature was carved into the moat in the vintage set!

October 12, 2022 UPDATE: Preorder Launches at 9am PT
The long awaited Eternia Playset goes live for preorder today at 9am Pacific Time!

October 11, 2022 UPDATE: Eternia Playset Stretch Goals Revealed
Today, we also go new information on the crowd fund stretch goals for the Eternia Playset! All backers, who back the Eternia Playset in the first week will get the exclusive King Grayskull figure. Once Eternia reaches 8000 backers, they will receive this exclusive Moat Monster which is fully articulated! This Moat Monster is an homage to a similar creature that was originally a hidden easter egg carved into the vintage Eternia playset. Once Eternia reaches 10,000 backers, everyone who backs the set will receive an exclusive Council of Wise Men Keclar figure! Keclar seems like a new character to all of us here in the US, but he originally appeared in the United Kingdom comic magazines where the Elders were frequently featured. This also helps to tie into the story of Pre-Eternia and can set up a nice tie into to that sub-line!

SDCC 2022 Best of the Best Photos
Our minds were literally blown when the Eternia Playset was seemingly leaked ahead of preview night at San Diego Comic Con so we spent hours scouring Instragram and Twitter for the best of the best photos of this iconic piece of MOTU history! Who better to walk us through this glorious playset than Skeletor himself! As a side note, Skeletor got everyone up to speed on the SDCC Mattel reveals last MOTUesday in a very creative presentation! This must be how Skeletor presents his plans for Eternia domination, but we digress! The Mattel booth was filled with 6 display cases but the one that stole the show was the literal centerpiece, Eternia! Set off in a large battleground display, this playset made a massive footprint and impact on the people that got to see it live and the ones that were watching from a far. The display case featured a wasteland of Eternian carnage that featured the Masters of the Universe taking on not only Skeletor, but the infamous Snake Men.

During preview night, which was Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at San Diego Comic Con, a photo of Eternia was seemingly leaked ahead of fans clamoring to feast their eyes on this glorious wonder! The scene was not completely set up yet but a photo, which you can find in our article, 2022 SDCC Eternia Playset Coming to MOTU Origins, broke the internet that night. That’s right, minds were literally blown as fans were trying to figure out if this set was real or if Mattel had used a vintage stand in for display purposes. As the night progressed, Mattel even put up a teaser of own on Mattel Creations, which officially conformed that this set was indeed a reality! Also, Pixel Dan gave a very nice video walkthrough, which you can view on his IG page.
As you can see, the entire playset is MASSIVE and, although we don’t have the exact dimensions, we know everyone will have issues finding a place to display this piece. You can see the glorious Central Tower flanked by the Grayskull Tower (on the left) and Viper Tower (on the right). Knowing that the MOTU Origins figures are around 5.5″ tall, the Central Tower has to be at least 30″ tall from the ground to the top of the flags.

Getting a closer look at the individual towers themselves, you can see Mattel poured a ton of detail into each spire, which represents both good, evil, and the mix of the two powers. They spared no attention to detail, which include providing a port for the Wind Raider to sit atop Grayskull Tower, the Lion face with articulated arms in the Central Tower, and the chains and serpents from the Viper Tower! Let’s get a closer look at each Tower and see what is has to offer in finer detail!

According to the Wiki Grayskull and the mini comic lore:
The Three Towers were constructed by the Elders of Eternia to balance the powers of good and evil, thus containing the ultimate power. The Three Towers first appear in the minicomic “The Ultimate Battleground!”, when Skeletor and King Hiss summon them from the depths of Eternia. Skeletor enters in Central Tower and acquires enormous powers, but He-Man arrives, also acquires power, and defeats Skeletor. After that comic, King Hiss makes Viper Tower his base, and uses its power to summon his lost warriors, Sssqueeze and Snake Face. Most of the later minicomics show Central Tower as the most important “power fortress” in Eternia, more so than Castle Grayskull. In the minicomic “The Search for Keldor”, The Sorceress discovers that the Towers’ mere presence in Eternia allows her to leave Castle Grayskull in her human form, without becoming Zoar. Later, in the minicomic “Enter: Buzz-saw Hordak!”, Central Tower’s power changes Hordak’s powers, transforming him into Buzz-saw Hordak. During that comic, Hordak claims he helped to build Central Tower, and states that the Towers have the power of time travel. The last minicomic, “The Powers of Grayskull: The Legend Begins!”, shows He-Man and the Sorceress using that power to travel to Eternia’s past.
Three Towers
Viper Tower
The Viper Tower, Eternia’s second smaller tower attaches to the Central Tower base. The Viper Tower is suppose to represent Snake Mountain and features four gray serpent like arms that attach to the tower and the monorail track for stability. The central feature is the light purple viper coiled around a dark purple mountain. There are also 4 chains that run from the gold collar around the neck of the snake down to the serpent arms that attach to the Monorail. The lower base of the tower features a hangout of sorts so the Evil Warriors can relax after a long day of trying to overtake Eternia!

Central Tower
The Central Tower is the the largest of the three towers and it sits atop a foundational base that connects the Grayskull Tower and the Viper Tower to Eternia. The tower features a Lion that guards the entrance to Eternia that features an actual Lion head with an articulating jaw (at least that is what it did in the vintage design but we have yet to confirm this detail). There are also two arms that fit into the Central Tower’s socket joints so you can manuever the arms and ensnare an unsuspecting Heroic or Evil Warrior. In this display, it looks like Snake Armor He-Man is ripe for the snatching! The entrance to Eternia sports 2 Gold Gargoyles that guard the steps to the playset leading up to the Lion (how inviting!)! The top tier of the Central Tower boasts 4 blue Monorail support arms which seat nicely into the front and around the sides of the central tower’s upper tier to support the track pieces. The Central Tower connects both the Grayskull and Viper Towers via their respective ramps, creating one ginormous playset! Like the vintage design, the interior of the Central Tower has three floor levels in addition to the ground floor. Each level can be reached by way of an elevator which runs up and down on the elevator shaft. Like the vintage playset, the first floor features the command center and computer console. On the second floor, it features a half robot that looks like something you can use to practice kickboxing but it is a cool pack in nonetheless.

There is circular wheel right in back of Thunder Punch He-Man (oh isn’t he magnificent!!!) that works the elevator. The disc has a nice wood finish to it, which compliments the castle nicely! You can also see some of the interior walls that have gold and blue portals in them. Too bad you can display both sides of the castle because the interior is something to behold!

On the top of the tower you will find the large red laser blaster that currently has King Grayskull, from the Revelation Series in MOTU Origins form, mannning! Will he be a pack in similar to the Temple of Darkness Sorceress that came with Castle Grayskull? Only time will tell! The large blaster canon features blast effects in the two main ports and some amazing detail that actually look like cogs and gears. Based on the way that the canon sits on the playset, it looks like it has a rocker arm, allowing the cannon to move and articulate. Surrounding the blaster are 3 gold flag poles that circle the top of tower. The Gold Ladder, that you see Beast Man using, can be placed either on the Central Tower (as shown) or it usually attaches to the top ledge of a tower and hangs down the tower face or down to a piece of monorail track and you can pretty much put it anywhere you like!

Grayskull Tower
Grayskull Tower, which contains the power of good, represents Castle Grayskull and is colored to match! It sits to the left of the Central Tower and connects to its foundation. Like the Viper Tower, Grayskull Tower has 4 brown monorail arms (that the Sorceress is tightrope walking on) that plug into the face of the tower to support the monorail track.

At the base of Grayskull Tower, there is a prison for Evil Warriors, Snake Men or the Horde (choose your poison) that has a very large prison gate. The gate moves via a ball and chain that is behind the Sorceress in the image above. The back of the tower features a large gray door with a skull affixed to the top of the back of the prison, providing some welcoming features. There is also a large brown gate on the top of the prison cell, which looks like it is hinged so you can provide an escape route if the Evil Henchman are smart enough to figure it out.
