Yo Joe! This three-pack landed on my desk and I have been grinning ever since I cracked it open. The Mad Marauders sub-line has been one of the most exciting things to happen to the Classified Series, giving us this rugged, post-apocalyptic twist on characters we’ve known and loved since the ’80s. Footloose and Mutt were staples of the original A Real American Hero line, and seeing them reimagined with that scrappy, road-warrior aesthetic is something I so excited about because I always loved the vintage Slaughters Maraduders versions of these figures. Footloose originally hit shelves back in 1985 as the Joe team’s infantry trooper, and Mutt and his trusty Rottweiler Junkyard were right there with him in ’84. They’ve always been solid mid-roster Joes, the kind of characters that made the team feel like a real unit instead of just a handful of heavy hitters. Giving them the Mad Marauders treatment adds a whole new layer of personality and grit to both of them. And speaking of personality, Hasbro packed this set with 23 accessories. Footloose comes with his helmet, bazooka with rocket, knife, backpack, and multiple weapons. Mutt gets a nightstick, knife, swappable goggles, a mask, and six alternate hands, some of which feature dog trainer hand signals, which is such a thoughtful little detail. And then there’s Junkyard, who comes with both a “good boy” head and a growling head, because of course he does. I love that little dog so much. So let’s take a look at Mad Marauders Footloose, Mutt & Junkyard in hand review! We want to give a huge thanks to Big Bad Toy Store for sending us this GI Joe Classified Series Mad Marauders Footloose, Mutt & Junkyard for review, and if they have been on your must have list, you can still grab them now at Big Bad Toy Store.

Packaging

The packaging features a wide window box with a dark blue and black color scheme, letting you see both Footloose and Mutt alongside Junkyard and a generous spread of accessories through the clear plastic tray. I like how the “Mad Marauders” burst graphic in the lower left corner adds a splash of personality to the presentation, with its retro star-shaped design in bright blue.

The side panel artwork is stacked with three illustrated portraits, starting with a mustachioed Footloose in his camouflaged helmet gripping an assault rifle, then Mutt below him wearing his mask and goggles with a sniper-style weapon, and Junkyard at the bottom baring his teeth in a snarling expression with tactical gear strapped around his body. I like how they gave each character their own distinct illustrated moment on this narrow panel, making the side of the box almost feel like a mini comic strip.

Here’s a closer look at the opposite side panel, which gives you a peek at one of the accessories through the clear plastic window, with what appears to be the bazooka sitting snug in the tray. The lower portion features the same blue-toned character portraits of Footloose, Mutt, and Junkyard, along with a QR code and cross-sell icons for other figures in the lineup.

The back of the box showcases all three characters in a tropical jungle setting, with Footloose and Mutt in matching blue tactical vests over olive green fatigues while Junkyard stands between them wearing a spiked collar. You can see how the illustrated character portraits on the right side of the box give you a clean look at Mutt’s face beneath his gear, along with Junkyard’s snarling expression and what appears to be silhouettes of the alternate head and accessories included in the set.

The load out for this set is huge! There are some many parts and pieces loaded into this plastic tray, where do we start? Mutt’s six alternate hands are nestled across the top row alongside his mask, two pairs of goggles, and helmet, while Footloose’s helmet, knife, bazooka with its rocket, and backpack fill out the opposite side, giving you a real sense of just how much gear is packed into this three-pack.

Figure Details

Footloose is outfitted with a bright blue tactical vest loaded with sculpted pouches and gear slots over a dark leather jacket, with a blue t-shirt peeking through at the collar. His pants feature a mix of charcoal gray and olive green panels with textured knee pads and cargo pocket details that break up the color blocking nicely.

Here’s a closer look at Footloose from the side, where you get a great sense of how the blue vest wraps around the torso with all its molded magazine pouches and attachment points layered over the bare arms. I like how the black combat boots have individually sculpted laces and a chunky sole that gives him a solid, grounded feel.

One detail worth pointing out is the shamrock insignia printed on Footloose’s shoulder pad, a subtle personal touch that ties into the character’s identity. His wristwatch is a nice added detail, sculpted as a small dark band that sits cleanly against the bare forearm.

Here’s a closer look at Footloose from the back, where the blue tactical vest reveals a large black panel running down the spine with a peg hole for attaching his backpack. The belt section wraps around the waist with a row of sculpted blue magazine pouches and small gear cases that add a satisfying amount of detail you don’t always get from the rear view.

Mutt’s head sculpt has a lot of character, with a thick dark mustache, furrowed brow, and slicked-back hair that all work together to give him a tough, no-nonsense expression. The blue ammo case strapped to his right thigh is a nice functional touch, secured with sculpted straps that wrap cleanly around the leg.

Here’s a closer look at the profile view, where the green arm pouch strapped above his elbow really pops against the blue vest and bare skin. His black fingerless gloves have sculpted knuckle padding and a snug fit around the wrist that adds a convincing layer of tactical detail.

The sculpt on Mutt’s slicked-back hair has a nice combed texture that reads well from this side profile, with clean separation between the dark hair and the flesh tone of his neck. His olive green pants show subtle tonal variation between the lighter and darker green panels, with the dark gray knee pad sitting flush against the leg without looking bulky.

Here’s a closer look at the back of Mutt, and that blue vest has a satisfying amount of sculpted detail from this angle, with horizontal ribbing running across the upper back and a compact buckle closure where the belt meets the spine. A blue gear case sits on his left hip, adding some asymmetry to the loadout that keeps the silhouette from feeling too uniform.

Junkyard looks great from this front view, with his open mouth revealing a sculpted pink tongue and individually molded teeth that give him a happy, panting expression. The spiked collar sits snugly around his neck with each silver stud individually sculpted, and his blue tactical harness has a chunky center buckle that wraps securely across the chest.

GI Joe Classified Series Mad Marauders Footloose Mutt Junkyard IH 14

I like how the sculpt on Junkyard’s paws has individually separated toes with distinct orange-tan coloring that contrasts sharply against the glossy black of his legs. The articulation breaks at the shoulders and hips are well-integrated into the natural contours of the body, keeping things looking organic rather than mechanical.

Junkyard’s blue tactical harness features an olive green MOLLE panel across the top with a molded carry handle that loops up from the back, a practical detail that suggests he’s ready to be lifted into a vehicle or over an obstacle. The sculpt across his back and haunches shows subtle skin folds and fur texture that keeps the figure feeling lifelike even under all that gear.

GI Joe Classified Series Mad Marauders Footloose Mutt Junkyard IH 16

You can see how Junkyard’s alternate head captures a completely different mood, with his mouth still open but the expression shifted to something more alert and watchful compared to the happy panting look on the default head. The tan markings above his eyes are crisp and well-defined, giving his face that classic Rottweiler look with warm brown eyebrow spots set against the deep black of his muzzle.

GI Joe Classified Series Mad Marauders Footloose Mutt Junkyard IH 17

Here’s a closer look at Junkyard from the rear, where the textured sculpting on the hindquarters shows a small raised tail nub that adds a realistic touch to the Rottweiler silhouette. The orange-tan coloring on the paws extends cleanly up to a sharp line where it meets the dark gray of the legs, and the blue harness straps frame the body nicely from this angle without obscuring the sculpted detail underneath.

A close-up reveals the incredible detail in Junkyard’s “good boy” face sculpt, from the wrinkled folds around his muzzle to the glossy brown eyes that have a lifelike depth to them. His pink tongue has a bumpy, organic texture with subtle veining that you don’t always see at this scale, curling naturally over his lower jaw.

GI Joe Classified Series Mad Marauders Footloose Mutt Junkyard IH 19

Armed with both an assault rifle and the bazooka slung over his shoulder, Footloose looks absolutely loaded for bear in this setup, and that shark mouth deco painted on the bazooka’s nose is a fun, aggressive detail. The lime green barrel on the assault rifle is a bold color choice that ties it back to the olive tones in his pants while keeping the weapons from blending into the darker gear.

GI Joe Classified Series Mad Marauders Footloose Mutt Junkyard IH 20

I like how that shark mouth deco on the bazooka really comes alive up close, with its white teeth, red gums, and green surround painted onto the olive barrel in a way that feels like genuine nose art on a piece of military hardware. The camouflage netting draped over Footloose’s helmet has a beautifully irregular, web-like texture with patches of green and tan that sit naturally over the darker brown shell underneath.

The backpack is an impressive piece on its own, with sculpted bedrolls, pouches, and buckled straps layered across every surface, creating a densely packed look that feels like Footloose is hauling serious supplies. You can see how the dark olive and black tones of the backpack contrast against the bright blue vest, and that small U.S. flag patch on his upper arm is a subtle detail I hadn’t caught until now.

GI Joe Classified Series Mad Marauders Footloose Mutt Junkyard IH 22

Footloose looks right at home half-concealed in foliage here, with that camouflage-netted helmet blending seamlessly into the greenery while the bright blue vest punches through to keep him from disappearing entirely. The assault rifle’s lime green grip and barrel peek through the leaves alongside the shark-mouthed bazooka rising behind his shoulder, and that stern expression under the chin strap mic really sells the ambush moment.

GI Joe Classified Series Mad Marauders Footloose Mutt Junkyard IH 26

Mutt is outfitted in the same bright blue tactical vest as Footloose, but his darker brown undershirt and olive green forearm wraps give him a slightly grittier look that sets the two apart. Junkyard’s snarling alternate head is on display here, with his lips pulled back to show that row of sculpted teeth, and the matching blue harness ties him visually to his handler in a way that really sells them as a unit.

GI Joe Classified Series Mad Marauders Footloose Mutt Junkyard IH 23

Something I appreciate here is this quieter moment between Mutt and Junkyard, where the two feel like a bonded pair rather than just figures posed next to each other. Mutt’s green arm pouch and black fingerless gloves add some nice texture contrast against Junkyard’s glossy black coat, and the matching blue tactical vests on both really sell them as a coordinated team.

GI Joe Classified Series Mad Marauders Footloose Mutt Junkyard IH 24

It’s nice to see Mutt and Junkyard together in a more intimate scene like this, with Mutt’s black gloved hand resting gently against Junkyard’s chin while the dog looks up at him with that alert alternate head. The dark gray helmet with its green-lensed goggles pushed up on the brim gives Mutt a distinct military K-9 handler look, and the lime green arm pouch mirrors the same placement Footloose wears but reads differently against Mutt’s darker brown sleeves.

GI Joe Classified Series Mad Marauders Footloose Mutt Junkyard IH 25

Mutt and Junkyard share a great moment here, with the handler’s gloved hand reaching out while Junkyard rears up on his hind legs, his front paws lifted and his blue harness straps catching the motion. I noticed that Mutt’s dark gray helmet sits a bit differently from Footloose’s camouflage-netted version, with a smoother, rounder profile and no netting, keeping the two characters visually distinct even in matching blue vests.

GI Joe Classified Series Mad Marauders Footloose Mutt Junkyard IH 27

Mutt and Junkyard make a great pair here, with the nightstick clamped firmly in Junkyard’s mouth adding a playful touch that shows off the jaw sculpt’s ability to grip accessories convincingly. The blue ammo case on Mutt’s thigh and the matching blue harness on Junkyard keep that coordinated team color running even when Mutt isn’t in the frame.

GI Joe Classified Series Mad Marauders Footloose Mutt Junkyard IH 28

Here are some fun shots of the whole crew together, and the matching blue tactical vests across Footloose, Mutt, and Junkyard really unify them as a cohesive squad despite each figure having their own distinct gear loadout and color accents. Mutt’s smoother dark helmet with ear protection contrasts nicely against Footloose’s camouflage-netted version, and Junkyard’s angry head between the two handlers brings a welcome bit of warmth to the otherwise heavily armed trio.

GI Joe Classified Series Mad Marauders Footloose Mutt Junkyard IH 29

Here are some fun shots of the whole squad in action, with Footloose’s camouflage-netted helmet and Mutt’s smoother dark version creating a nice visual contrast while Junkyard charges out front wearing his spiked collar and blue harness. I’m really digging how the olive green and blue color palette ties all three together as a unit, even with their weapons and gear creating distinctly different silhouettes.

GI Joe Classified Series Mad Marauders Footloose Mutt Junkyard IH 30

Footloose carries his pistol and the shark-mouthed bazooka while Mutt flanks the opposite side with Junkyard leading the charge between them, and the whole trio reads as a tight, coordinated unit in motion. I like the way Mutt’s chin strap microphone mirrors Footloose’s, a small repeated detail across both figures that reinforces their shared squad identity even though their helmets are otherwise completely different designs.

GI Joe Classified Series Mad Marauders Footloose Mutt Junkyard IH 31

Mutt’s green forearm wraps and dark brown undershirt take on a warmer tone next to Junkyard’s glossy black coat, and the dog’s happy panting head tilted slightly upward really sells the bond between handler and partner. I like how the sculpted zipper running down the center of Mutt’s blue tactical vest has individual teeth molded in, a small detail that adds real tactile believability to the gear.

GI Joe Classified Series Mad Marauders Footloose Mutt Junkyard IH 32

Footloose carries his pistol and the shark-mouthed bazooka here, and the camouflage netting on his helmet has that wonderful irregular, hand-draped quality with its mix of green and tan patches sitting loosely over the dark brown shell. The chin strap microphone curves tightly along his jawline, sitting just below that thick mustache, and his furrowed brow under the helmet brim adds a real sense of focused intensity to the moment.
