Quick History of Mego
The Mego Corporation is an American toy company that in its original iteration was first founded in 1954. Originally known as a purveyor of dime store toys, in 1971 the company shifted direction and became famous for producing licensed dolls (including the long-running “World’s Greatest Super Heroes” line), celebrity dolls, and the Micronauts toy line. For a time in the 1970s, their line of 8-inch-scale action figures with interchangeable bodies became the industry standard. In 1982 Mego filed for bankruptcy, and by 1983, the Mego Corporation ceased to exist; today, Mego dolls and playsets can be highly prized collectibles, with some fetching hundreds, or even in some cases, thousands of dollars (depending on rarity) in the collectibles market. In July 2018, the newly-reformed Mego Corporation announced they would be producing a limited run of their classic style clothed dolls in their traditional 1/9 scale, as well as some 1/5 figures sold exclusively through Target. These dolls, which include recreations of dolls released in the 1970s, began seeing release later in the year.Mego Corporation – Wikipedia
Collaboration between Mego & Hasbro
Marty Abrams, CEO of Mego Corporation, sits for a quick Q&A about the collaboration between Mego and Hasbro and how they came together to bring us this amazing GI Joe Mego Crossover: Let’s watch below:
Chest, Arms & Waist
Legs & Boots
Snake Eyes includes his classic backpack as well, which has a slot on the right side to store his long Mikimoto Sword. His backpack stores on his back just like that of Storm Shadows with a plastic angled piece that slots into a holster in the back of his chest strap. Let’s take a closer look at Snake’s Eye below.
Snake Eyes’ head is also made of a hard plastic, just like the Storm Shadow’s. It’s a simple black head with his classic black visor over the eyes. This too was a wonderful interpretation of the Commando Snake Eyes v2 Vintage O-Ring ARAH figure!
Chest, Arms & Waist
Snake Eye’s outfit is made of several various types of material. His chest has a several patches of leather like material sewn to the black leotard type material below to accent the chest and abs of the figure. He includes the aforementioned chest strap full of grenades and a pouch on top. The back of the chest strap has a larger molded plastic holster to hold his backpack secure to his back. Around his waist is a multi-layered belt with several different molded buckles and straps.
His arms have a lot of detail, and the outfit design is asymmetrical. On his right shoulder is the famous red Arahikage logo, and his shoulder also has a strapped pouch with a buckle. He has a small ammo strap to his gloved right wrist and then very detailed looking hands. His left shoulder has the same type of strapped pouch and then his gloved left hand.
Legs & Boots
Snake Eyes comes packed with 2 weapons holsters strapped to his upper thighs. On his right leg is a holster to hold his Colt 45 Caliber Pistol. On his left leg is a knife holster. He has black soft plastic boots and leather like patches on his knees.
When it comes to Mego’s interpretation of the vintage A Real American Hero 1980’s O-Ring figures, you can see from the photos below that they have done an amazing job translating the vintage 3-3/4″ O-Ring versions into Mego 8″ figures! Storm Shadow’s Ninja Gi, red Cobra logo, knife, ninja stars tucked in his belt and classic bow and sword holstering backpack, Mego did a fanatic job paying tribute to the O-ring version. Snake Eye’s black helmet visor, grenades strapped to his chest, uzi sub machine gun and classic sword are a wonderful call back to the vintage Commando Snake Eyes v2! From the accessories, chest straps and classic outfits, these Mego X figures are a perfect homage to their vintage ARAH GI Joe counterparts!
Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow come with a ton of accessories that come packed in a cardboard green ammo box labeled ‘Top Secret”. There is room on the front to fill in your own name, rank and serial number as well! How cool is that?

Let’s take a closer look at Mego’s interpretation of these two rival’s classic backpack designs. The Classic Storm Shadow Backpack has a painted red Arashikage logo, with a criss cross pattern on the back. It also has 4 molded Quivers, and storage slots for Storm Shadow’s bow, and his 2 different sized swords. It’s a great interpretation of the vintage version. Snake Eyes’ backpack too matches his vintage version. A simple backpack with two large pouches along the bottom, a molded strap in the middle and a holster for Snake Eye’s long Mikimoto Sword to holster into.
Half the fun of these figures is taking them out in the wild and snapping some fun photos in nature.
