Let’s imagine who could be coming to the Masters of the Universe Origins line in the future as we think about MOTU Origins variants!
Variants and the reuse of parts to create new characters is Mattel’s M.O. so let’s imagine who could be coming to the Masters of the Universe Origins line in the future. Mattel is known for reusing parts to and reimagining characters to create new one, which has given us some very cool figures and creatures that were not originally part of the MOTU Vintage line…like Faker and Duplicat, Keldor, and Anti Eternia He-Man, and the Eternian Palace Guards, to name a few!

Battle Armor Faker
Faker originally came out as an SDCC Exclusive in the DCU vs. MOTU two pack with Bizzaro back in 2014. In the MOTU Classics line, the way Mattel handled battle damage was to include swappable chest plates so you’d have to remove the armor in order to change the look of the figure. This particular figure, which is quite expensive on eBay, is a variant of the original MOTU Classics Faker and this would be an easy variant Mattel could make for the MOTU Origins line. The MOTU Classics custom features an exposed chest of Faker but taking the concept one step further, we could see battle damaged plates that look like the vintage style sticker Faker came with. Joe Amato Custom Creations threw the MOTU Origins collecting community in a tizzy when he posted what had looked like a Deluxe MOTU Origins Battle Armor Faker but he is a wiz at Photoshop as he pasted Faker in a Walmart display but you can see how amazing this figure would look in an Origins buck! This would be a very easy repaint and retool for Mattel for the MOTU Origins line as we already have Battle Armor Skeletor and He-Man and this would add a very cool variant to the line.

Trot-Bot by Joe Amato Custom Creations
As we saw with Duplicat, variants just don’t lend themselves to figure and this next concept comes from Joe Amato Custom Creations with his version of Fakers steed he has dubbed Trot-Bot, which is a repaint of the MOTU Origins Strider. Joe gave him mechanical tubing and rods, a double gun on his back, an “F” sticker for “Faker”, a robot chest sticker, and a color scheme similar to Faker’s but darker to make him pop. The silver accents really brings out the details and this would be another great variant to put in the Origins line to build out another line of Skeletor’s robot henchmen. Besides, how is Faker supposed to get from point A to point B?

Battle Armor Fisto
Why save Battle Armor just for He-Man and Skeletor when you can spread the BA love across other Heroic Warriors and Evil-Henchmen? This Battle Armor Fisto concept and inspiration comes from the very talented customizer, Joe Amato Custom Creations as he used a vintage Fisto as the base for this variant. Since the Origins line looks pretty much the same as the vintage figures, we can imagine what a Battle Armor Fisto could look like. Also using the vintage figures of BA He-Man and Fisto, this mashup is a very cool idea the dual fists and the extra shoulder armor add that extra punch (pun intended lol). The ‘F’ for Fisto is such a great idea although it would have been great to retain his striped armor to tie in with the figure more. Joe added some armor to the tops of his shoulders which gives the figure an entirely different look!

Battle Armor Wun-Dar
Battle Armor Wun-Dar would be a cool variant since Wun-Dar is supposedly coming to the Origins line in the future and this Custom MOTU Classics concept integrates one of the cooler as aspects of the figure into the Battle Armor plates, which is the ‘W’ for Wun-Dar! The brown tones pay homage to the original color they used for the vintage weapons pack-out for Wun-Dar and even the axe he is holding is finely detailed as well. Again, this would be a cool and easy figure for Mattel to make and it would be great to see a BA version of Wun-Dar follow the Mattel Creations release 6 months to a year later to keep the line going.

Zombie Horde He-Man
Introduced in the Classics line as a 2019 exclusive, Zombie Horde He-Man would make an amazing Origins figure as this would be the first translucent Origins figure. Mattel has recently done this with Scare Glow from the Revelation line where he has the smokey black translucent plastic so it’s definitely possible to see them doing this type of variant for the Origins line. The eyes are similar to the way they styled Anti Eternia He-Man and having a slime green weapons pack out with a translucent figure of the same color will definitely add that pop to the shelf!

Snake Variants
A perfect time to create some Snake variants for the Origins line is to pair them with the release of the Snake Men figures that are rumored to be coming to the line in 2023! Mattel has some history with making Snake variants of figures and Snake Man-At-Arms and Snake Teela would be amazing to see in the line and would definitely be doable!
Snake Man-At-Arms
We’ve seen a couple variants of Man-At-Arms already in the Origins line and this one comes from the Powers of Grayskull lore and the 2nd ultimate battle ground where King Hiss put a Snake Spell on Man at Arm and it’s cool to tie this into King Hiss as he is rumored to come out in January 2023! The Classics line did a major resculpt of the face and the figure looks amazing, which would translate nicely to a figure they could do for Origins. Just create another snake head sculpt for Origins and you have a recipe for a great figure. If they wanted to go the extra mile, they could put some snake skin detail on him like they did the 200x version of Snake Teela!
Snake Teela
This is one of the best 200x variants and the way they designed her skin and gave her snake inspired weapons and accessories really shows us that Mattel is capable of creating very cool figures with a little paint app and deco changes. We love what they did with the her green snake skin and also repainting her weapons and accessories ties into the figure design very nicely! Teela would also be an easy repaint for Mattel as they would need to apply that leathery look to the figure but do so in a way that differentiates her from the Green Goddess.

Mini Comic Beast Man
We are huge fans of the mini comic variants Mattel has been creating for the Origins line so this completely RED version of Beast Man that came out in the Classics line in 2016, as a Power Con exclusive, would be a fantastic candidate for the Origins line. We’ve gotten a few Beast Man repaints already but mainly the Lords of Power version, which is cool, but Mattel needs to pay homage to the original look of Beast Man as he appeared in the comic. They could easily just paint the standard release of Beast Man entirely red OR they could go one further and create a different peice of furry chest armor for him, which would make this figure really stand out!

Samurai Jitsu
Rounding out the list is a Samurai Jitsu concept that draws inspiration from the NECA statue line, customs, and the Masterversse line. As we saw with the reveal of the 200x MOTU Origins Skeletor, Mattel is quite capable of creating highly detailed Origins figures that were not part of the vintage line. It would be amazing to see an oversized chopping gauntlet and have Jitsu take on a more Samurai Warrior look. Heck, they could even pack in an extra head sculpt to give him that long ponytail look that has a cool mask design!
