NEW MOTU Origins figures were revealed today, including 200x He-Man, King Randor, Teela & Zoar Two Pack, Digitino, Pig Head, and Space Sumo!

Last week, Mattel released a teaser image of upcoming Masterverse and Origins figures. Fans were left to decipher the silhouettes, which lead to some interesting character interpretations, which can be read on Pixel Dan’s Twitter feed as he, among others, teased this image last week.

Well wait no more! Mattel unveiled their New Masters of the Universe Origins Figures this afternoon thru their Facebook and Instagram pages! Mattel has not specified which figures are assigned to what Wave as of yet, but they did say that the figures were coming this fall!

Masters of the Universe Origins New Reveals March 2022

The new Origins Figures unveiled today include 5 new figures and a deluxe 2 figure 2 pack:

  • 200 X He-Man
  • King Randor
  • Teela & Zoar 2 Pack
  • Pig HeadRulers of the Sun
  • Digtino Rulers of the Sun
  • Space SumoRulers of the Sun

200x He-Man

Based on the Mike Young productions 2002 He Man and the Master of the Universe animated series, this version of He-Man was supposed to be an update to the 1980’s Filmation version. This version of the cartoon was set on the futuristic planet of Primus, and explored the origins for each character. Mattel release a line of action figures to coincide with this cartoon series, and this new Origins release is a direct homage to that 2002 version of He-Man. This version of He-Man has an all new head sculpt which I am actually really digging! The rest of the buck is shared with the standard He-Man body, but with a new belt design, silver arm bracers, brown shorts and matching boots. He comes with leather like brown straps on his battel armor; with the 2002 style cross in the center. He has an all new Power sword, axe and sheid to match the 200x style design.

King Randor

The regal King Randor, Ruler of Eternia, and father to Prince Adam. King Randor is one of my personal favorites! For me, he was the most anticipated figures announced today! We already heard leaks of him likely to hit in Wave 9, according to our Toy Habits informant. We also covered him in our part 1 of our 3-part series of articles where we explored Teased Origins Figures From Card Art. If you haven’t seen that article yet, I highly recommend it, you can click here. This version of King Randor is a tribute to the 1980’s version, with his red and gold shinny armor, gold arm bracers, crown, orange pants, and blue boots. Where Mattel diverged from the Vintage was that they decided to go with a plastic cape, rather than the soft goods cape of the original. I would have preferred he come with a soft goods cape, but I am not surprised as this is the way Mattel has gone with the rest of the caped figures except She-Ra. All in all, I have to say King Randor looks amazing and I can’t wait to get him in hand!

Teela & Zoar 2 Pack

We at Toy Habits have got to say that we were not surprised about this one either. Our Toy Habits source has confirmed several weeks ago that a Zoar & Teela Two Pack Exclusive was in the works for the Masters of the Universe Origins line. This 2-pack was reported to be a Big Bad Toy Store and Entertainment Earth exclusive, although we have not been given official confirmation from Mattel. This version of Teela looks to have an all-new knee design, brand new face sculpt, new gold-colored accents and new boot color scheme. This Teela is more than just a repaint, it looks like Mattel has upgraded her quite a bit. Teela also comes with all new accessories; a new gold sword, gold staff, and shield. We also get an exciting new addition to the Origins line, our first bird! This brightly colored orange and blue Origins version of Zoar harkens back to the vintage complete with battle armor and perch!

Ruler of the Sun Line:

Today announcement also include the official reveal of the Rulers of the Sun line! Rulers of the Sun was born out of the idea that no matter what your skin-color, you can still be a superhero. With that, Olmec Toys and their flagship character Sun-Man was created in 1985 by its founder Yla Eason. Now with a with a partnership with Mattel, the Rulers of the Sun make their triumphant return as part of the Master of the Universe Origins line! Below you can see Sun-Man and the rest of the Rulers of the Sun Pig Head, Digitino, Space Sumo and a second versions of Sun-Man with a more stylized head sculpt. Let’s take a closer look at each below.

Pig-Head

Pig-Head is the nemesis of the Rulers of the Sun gang. Where Skeletor is He-Man’s counter-part, so is Pig-Head to Sun-Man. Pig Head has an interesting green skin color, boar like tusks protruding from his mouth and a big pig-like snout for a nose. He wears a teal-colored helmet with pink horns, pink wrist bracers, teal colored chest, burgundy chest strap and matching burgundy belt with red accents. His shorts are interesting as they are of a light-yellow color but look like they have a scaly texture, unlike the loin cloths of the rest of the MOTU gang. He wears teal colored boots with pink furry tops. Pig-Head is wheedling a teal spiked mace and pink and teal colored shield. Pig-Head is a very interesting character in the Rulers of the Sun, as he is the only non-humanoid beast-like creature in the group. I think this is great to bring variety to the group, as MOTU fans are fond of creature like characters, so he fits in nicely! Again, he too matches his vintage counter-part in classic origins fashion.

Digitino

Digitino, the math genius, is an interesting character, as he is the only Latino character of the group. Digitino’s face sculpt is excellent in capturing the look of the vintage figure, with his nicely painted brown eyes and eyebrows and beautiful brown hair. His lips even look like they have a tinge of color to them, which is a nice touch. Digitino wears a tan colored smock with some digits carved out of it. He has yellow and red wrist bracers, red and yellow belt, blue shorts, and yellow boots with red toes. He comes with a staff with a claw-like appendage at the end, not really sure what that was supposed to symbolize. All in all, I think he is a good mix for the Rulers of the Sun group and fits in nicely into the MOTU world. The origins version does a wonderful job of paying tribute to the vintage one.

Space Sumo

Space Sumo, the last of this group is the Rulers of the Sun’s asian representation. He is a fairly simple looking character, wearing black chest armor, black belt with green diamond, red shorts, red and teal wrist bracers with the same green diamonds as the belt, and red boots with green toes. He carries a silver ninja sword which is pretty cool looking. His head however is where this Origins version of Space Sumo differs from his vintage counter-part. The vintage version had human head, which seemed to look like a lighter-skinned version of Sun Man V2 head sculpt but with a ninja separate hood for his head, so he can be displayed hooded or non-hooded. The origins version however comes with a sculpted-on hood on the head similar to Ninjor, and does not let you expose the character’s human face.

Previously Announced:

Mattel had already released images of the Rulers of Sun Line a few weeks ago, so let’s take a look at the main Hero himself, Sun-Man! From the look of the promotional photo below, Mattel is proposing 2 versions of Sun-Man, so let’s take a closer look at each, shall we?

Sun-Man Version 1

Here we can see Sun-Man Version 1 which is currently part of Wave 8 and has already arrived in some fan’s hands! He comes with his sun shield, red staff and signature yellow wings! He is wearing red chest armor with a yellow sunburst insignia and red wrist bracers with yellow diamonds. Sun-Man is also wearing green shorts with a black and green belt and red boots with yellow stars. In perfect MOTU origins style, he closely reassembles his vintage counterpart as you can see from the images below.

Sun-Man is currently available from Amazon at the link below for $14.99!

Sun Man Version 2

Here we can see Sun-Man Version 2, which has not been released, nor assigned to an announced wave yet. His is similar to Sun-Man version 1, except he comes with a more serious head sculpt and a flat-top hair style. Some may say they prefer this head sculpt over the version 1 head. In my opinion, I don’t see why they couldn’t just release 1 version of Sun-Man and pack him with alternate heads. It seems silly to have to purchase both. Here again Version 2 comes with the same sun shield, red staff and signature yellow wings! Chest armor, boots, shorts and red bracers are all the same as version 1. And again, he too closely reassembles his vintage counterpart as you can see from the images below.
