We have an exclusive behind the scenes look at the Ramen Toy Master of the Verse Heads project for both Masterverse and Origins. Before we dive into the details, we wanted to give a special shoutout to Mega Jay Retro (sub his YouTube channel and Instagram page) for connecting Toy Habits to Ramen Toy! We first met Noel Lee (aka Ace) from Ramen Toy just a few short days ago when Mega Jay had Toy Habits on their live stream as we all reacted to some doom and gloom reporting from another YouTuber what will rename nameless. Enough gushing, let’s dive into the details and behind the scenes look at the Master of the Verse Heads project by Ramen Toy with their inaugural movie He-Man head sculpt.

How Mattel could be so off on the Dolph Lungren look is beyond us but thank goodness Ramen Toy is addressing the head sculpt and creating their own!

Ramen Toy revealed their solution to the derpy He-Man head sculpt that has plagued Mattel in recent years with their Master of the Verse Movie He-Man head sculpt that will fit the 2023 Masterverse figures. Let’s face it (pun intended 😂) that Mattel has a very hard time getting the head sculpt for Movie He-Man right, which is a shame because He-Man is the iconic character in the line. Ramen Toys is amazing about posting their progress through the design lifecycle so let’s take a peak under the hood in this exclusive look at the design process.

Exclusive Update
Ramen Toy shared a digital render of what they are calling Verse 1 & 2 of the head sculpt that will fit on the Masterverse buck. They added more texture to the skin, which is very subtle in the digital render. At this stage, they are evaluating how this looks and will make adjustments, if needed, once they 3D print it and get to see what it is like in real life.

Iterating Version 1 and Version 2
Not happy with the how the eyes looked in version 1 (right), Ramen Toy updated the paint app to have the irises sit higher in the eye socket, so they redid it and this is the version 2 you see on the left! It definitely looks like a more natural stare and gaze with the stern look they have sculpted!

Using what Noel had on hand, he placed the Masterverse head on the MOTU Classics Rebel Leader He-Man! He is in the process of obtaining the Movie He-Man Masterverse so stay tuned!

They stated, “Once we get our hands on the actual Mattel figure, we will be able to confirm the final dimensions of our Master of the Verse head to fit the Mattel figures.”

Verse 3 for MOTU Origins
Revealed on January 12, 2022, Ramen Toy added a 3rd head sculpt that will fit the Masters of the Universe Origins line! This is amazing news as there was never a Movie He-Man created in the vintage line and it is TBD whether Mattel will be creating a movie version for the Origins line.

As stated on their Facebook Page: “Thank you to everyone for your positive support of our Master of the Verse heads project, creating option heads for your most beloved Mattel He-Man figures.
We will be listing the heads for pre-orders on our website really soon. We will post another update when that product page goes up
In the meantime, here are the final prices.
US$15.90 for 1 head, with a set of 3 at US$33.00
www.ramentoy.com will only list the set of 3 and if you would want to only purchase one, we can direct you to potential sales partners like BBTS or one of our many resellers.
We are also working on getting a page up on our website where we list all our resale partners.
Please note that we are still waiting to get the Mattel figure in hand to do proper sizing before we can commence tooling of the heads. But we do have an estimated delivery date of April 2023.”
Behind the Scenes Look at Verse 3
We were lucky and fortunate to have Ramen Toy give us a sneak peak into their design process for both the Masterverse version and the Origins version. The Masterverse heads “fit” the look and feel of the Origins figures, but, as you can see, the dimensions are off. In order to match the exact look and have it blend in with the Origins buck more naturally, the digital render needed to be resized. Here, shown on a 200x He-Man MOTU Origins buck, the digital render, as Ramen Toy noted, looks “a little squashed,” but there is a method to the madness!

As you can see, the dimensions of an Origins head are very different than the Masterverse heads, so Ramen Toy is being precise and measuring the head of the 200x He-Man in both length and width, which will help inform how the figure looks on the Origins bucks.

November 2022: Master of the Verse Heads Project Reveal
Back on November 12, 2022, Ramen Toy posted a digital render of the first head sculpt reveal for their Master of the Verse Heads project and it was none other than the Dolph Lungren head sculpt to replace (or fix) the standard head sculpt packed with the newly released Masterverse movie He-Man figure. Even seeing the digital render for the first time, it is lightyears beyond the standard Dolph Lungren head sculpt.

3D Printed Prototype
Back on November 17, 2022 Ramen Toy posted 3D printed prototype images with gray paint applied of the Dolph Lungren style head on a Masterverse buck so they could see how it fit and gauge the look and feel! They really nailed the face and hair sculpt, which looks like the real flowing hair of Dolph’s 80’s style hairdo. These head sculpts will be fully production end products which are fully painted and made with quality injection molded plastic, which is the same as Mattel would use.

These images, with gray paint applied, show the next iteration in the design the process, which was exciting to see!
