Modulok MOTU Origins Alternate Box Art Concept Sketch Teases Madame Razz
It is safe to say that the MOTU Origins MOdulok box art is stunning and is jammed packed with a ton of easter eggs, which we hope will become figures in the future. We rarely get to take a peek behind the curtain to see what an alternate reality for the box art and what could have been! axel.gimenez, renowned and insanely taleneted MOTU illustrator and coauthor of the Kings of the Snake Men book, has given us such a look today as he as posted an alternate version of the Modulok box art, which is also jammed packed with more easter eggs and teases! He said in an Instagram post, “When @manuel_eduardo_caritas and I were discussing ideas for Modulok’s cardback art, we thought about doing an homage to the classic movie cover art “Invasion of the Saucer-Men”, especially since we assume those creatures were the inspiration for Modulok. I went as far as sketching that option, but Roy and I found that it didn’t fit what we wanted and needed to show Modulok in all his glory. So we scrapped that sketch and worked on a new version, which is the one we ended up using on the figure’s box. In all these years of working with Roy, this has happened to us quite often so there are a lot of discarded sketches like these.

Here is the alternate MOTU Origins Modulok box art where we can see the homage to the Invasion of the Saucer-Men as Modulok caries Adora away! In this version, Shadow Weaver and Madame Razz with her trusty sidekick Broom. There are also some familiar teases with Light Hope, Bow, Kowl, Horde Troopers, and Shadow Weaver (from the Cartoon Collection Mantenna card art).

Madame Razz
Madame Razz is seen flying on Broom to come to the aid of Adora! She would make a perfect addition to the MOTU Origins Cartoon Collection line as she was only made as a MOTU Classics figure!

Madame Razz is a witch who lives in the Whispering Woods. She uses her abilities to help The Great Rebellion in their fight against Hordak and the Evil Horde. Being a witch she has spellcasting abilities, and is able to brew potions in her cauldron. With the aid of Broom, she can fly. Madame Razz is very absent-minded, and frequently mispronounces spells or forgets them completely, due largely to her advanced age. However, they usually have a tendency to work out for the best regardless. She is the equivalent of Orko in the He-Man series, both as comic relief and for occasional periods of wisdom. Madame Razz was first designed as a figure for the MOTU Classics and she would be a wonderful addition to the Masterverse line.
