Special thanks for Roy Juarez for posting the concept art penned by the one and only Axel Gimenez as this teases a new MOTU Origins figure to add to your Horde Army! Modulok as been teased on the card and box art in several places in the MOTU Origins line so it makes sense that they start building the parts needed for to actually produce this figure. In the sketch, which is typical for design sheets, it is called out that Frog Monger is using Modulok torso, arms, and legs! This does not mean that a Modulok figure for the Masters of the Universe Origins line is a guarantee but it makes it more likely as Matte’s bread and butter for the line is part reuse so it is fun to imagine!
Roy states in his Instagram post: “Sketches created during the creative process of Frog Monger for @mattelcreations . (Swipe through to see the design sheet for Frog Monger drawn by Axel Giménez). Bonus insight about Frog Monger: When we originally fleshed him out in The Rise of Evil 2-Pack artwork. We visualized him a smaller figure like Modulok. Later in the final design, he was changed to reuse the regular sized MOTU body to maintain the mix & match feature. An absolutely ‘ribbiting’ figure! 🐸”
Modulok Card and Box Art Teases
As we covered in our Masters of the Universe Origins Teased Figures From Card Art article, Modulok has already appeared on several card back artwork. A gaggle of evil Horde henchman appear on the Sorceress’ card art as well as Hordak’s, including Mantenna, Modulok, Leech, and Grizzlor, make up the bulk of this section. Since we have now seen Modulok on 2 card back artworks and the trademark has recently been renewed, we can probably make this one a given to come to the Origins line in the near future!
Modulok MOTU Origins Tease and Trademark Renewal
Modulok is another very gimmicky MOTU Character. To sweeten the possibility, we discovered that his trademark was renewed on 03/25/2021. Shortly after his figure was release in 1985, Modulok appears on the toy line’s accompanying cartoon series, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe by Filmation. Consisting of 22 Body parts and a 2-part laser gun, Modulok was the first of its kind for the MOTU line! Coined ” Evil Beast of a thousand Bodies”, this Ultimate Transforming Creature was a member of the Evil Horde. Although the Evil Horde are used as the main villains Filmation’s spin-off series, She-Ra Princess of Power, rather than He-Man, Modulok is given the unique honor of making his debut on He-Man instead. Halfway through the first season of, She-Ra: Modulok is incorporated into the She-Ra series, the only character from either show to be transferred permanently from one to the other. This occurs in the episode “Gateway to Trouble” in which Modulok builds a device for Skeletor which can open a portal to Etheria to transport his whole army to the planet. This character is interesting because we recently got the reveal for a 4 legged Mantenna, and that new 4 legged sculpt has set the stage for perhaps how they can also pull off Modulok in the Origins style.
Frog Monger Official Images and Backstory
To check out the actual parts that were produced, we’ve included the recent Frog Monger official images. Frog Monger is a character that originally comes from one of the creatures from the Castle Grayskull dungeon grate sticker. But Mattel has been sprinkling him on several package artwork throughout the Origins line, so we figured it was just a matter of time before they made him into an official figure!

Frog Monger Reveal
Frog Monger was revealed back on October 11, 2022 as part of Mattel’s Press and Influence MOTU event. He is a super bright green frog man with yellow spots on his arms and legs. He is wearing a metal collar around his neck and a little antenna beanie on his head. He looks to share some parts with the standard MOTU buck and but with a new torso and creature arms and legs of Skeletor. His face is super cute with bright yellow eyes and big yellow fang teeth. He looks to come with a new weapon and unique comic book. He will come in a typical single card release Mattel Creations style card back with an illustration of Frog Monger on the front and a beautiful art piece on the back. There looks to be some additional creatures hinted on the back of the card back as well. Perhaps a skeleton warrior and it looks like maybe King Chooblah in the background? He is set to be released by Mattel Creations in Spring of 2023. You can view more photos that Planet Eternia posted in their detailed article.
