Update: MOTU ThunderCats Wave 3 SDCC 2025 Official Reveal & Concepts
We’re coming full circle on the early intel we received earlier this month that the MOTU ThunderCats is officially continuing with a third wave! Fans of this wild crossover can look forward to reimagined versions of Lion-O, Panthro, and Panthor-Man, the latter appearing to be a repaint of the original Battle Cat-Man release. Illustration concepts for all three figures were part of Mattel’s design panel at SDCC, giving us a glimpse into the bold designs ahead, and now we’re counting the days until we see these mash-up warriors brought to life in plastic. This wave builds on the creative philosophy of blending nostalgia with new storytelling and design layers, ensuring that each figure has a purposeful connection rather than just a random mash-up. The team, including senior designers and product leads, emphasized authenticity and respect for the original source material while injecting new life into the characters. The MOTU ThunderCats Wave 3, as revealed in the Mattel Creations panel at San Diego Comic Con 2025, is an exciting continuation of the successful MOTU and ThunderCats collaboration and we hope the line does not end here!
September 27, 2025 Update: Panthor-Man Details
Collectors have been eagerly awaiting more news on MOTU Origins ThunderCats Wave 3, and we’ve now uncovered the official product details for Panthor-Man!
Masters of the Universe and ThunderCats, two iconic 80s action figure brands, come together to bring an exciting and nostalgic collaboration to life. Panthor, the classic evil steed of MOTU’s Skeletor, is re-interpreted as Panthor-Man. This savage cat-man has a ThunderCats style helmet, harness, shoulder armor, skirt armor and 2 claw accessories. Designed at Origins 5.5-inch scale, the figure has 16 points of articulation and deluxe detail and modular body parts. A collector card is included. This figure is a must-have for nostalgic MOTU and ThunderCats fans alike. Colors and decorations may vary.
- This Panthor-Man action figure is a thrilling crossover of the worlds of Masters of the Universe and ThunderCats, two iconic action figure brands from the 1980s.
- Not all cats are good, as Panthor-Man finds an ally in Skeletor in his plans to overthrow Lion-O as Lord of the ThunderCats.
- This 5.5-inch scale toy figure has 16 movable joints for great battle poses and action moves and comes with battle claw accessories that attach to his wrist bracers.
- Panthor-Man’s armor is removable. It includes a helmet, a harness, shoulder armor, and ‘fur’-trimmed belt/skirt armor as well as the wrist bracers and battle claws.
- An included character card adds to the collectability of this figure.
- MOTU and ThunderCats fans 6 years and up will want to collect all the figures — the gear and accessories are mostly modular, ready to switch, swap and share. Each figure sold separately, subject to availability.
Lion-O
Lion-O, the fearless leader of the ThunderCats, is shown in classic cartoon style, complete with his iconic Claw Shield and bold, animated features. Lion-O’s redesign emphasizes his role as “king of the jungle,” outfitting him in gold Eternian armor inspired by classic Eternia playsets, with more subdued colors to better reflect his 1980s cartoon appearance.

Pantho
Panthro brings heavy weaponry and brute strength to the collection, captured in an icy-blue design that echoes his fierce personality and mechanical genius. Panthro, known as the team’s tech expert and muscle, will receive black armor that highlights his ninja roots, enhancing his original design with a more intricate and functional look.

Panthor-Man
The standout addition is Panthor Man, a new character inspired by the classic Panthor but given a humanoid form with purple armor and insignias linked to Skeletor’s Horde, expanding the lore and offering fans a fresh take on a familiar figure. Panthor-Man is a fusion of the MOTU villain’s feline steed with ThunderCats DNA. Although the figure is a repaint of Battle Cat-Man, the figure is depicted with deep purple fur, green armor, and a snarling new face, adding a feral intensity to the wave and teasing what’s next for this wild crossover.
