The Loyal Subjects is taking us right back to the 1980s with a stunning new 14-inch deluxe plush of the one and only Football Monster, and boy are we thrilled!!! Huge thank you to The Baroness of Toys for the heads up that the new My Pet Monster Football Monster was up on The Loyal Subjects for preorder! For those of us who grew up obsessing over that original My Pet Monster toy line, seeing Football Monster get the love he deserves is just so much fun. This guy was always one of my favorite variants from the vintage lineup, and I love how The Loyal Subjects has crafted him as a true homage to that classic release. The attention here to the original toy is really cool. You’ve got the signature helmet, the jersey, those iconic orange breakaway cuffs and chains, and of course those sharp fangs, that pimpled snout, yellow eyes, and oversized claws that made these monsters so lovably grotesque. How freakin’ cute is that?! The premium high-pile faux fur gives him that huggable yet monstrous feel that collectors and fans of the original line are going to go crazy over. What I really appreciate is the vintage-styled display box inspired by the original toy packaging. That’s the kind of detail that shows The Loyal Subjects understands what this property means to collectors who remember tearing into that box as a kid. It’s not just a plush, it’s a time machine back to the 80s. The Football Monster is available for preorder now at The Loyal Subjects for $60.00 with an expected ship date of Q3 2026. I can’t tell you how over the moon I am, and I was hoping and praying that after the original My Pet Monster release by the Loyal Subjects, that they would eventually release the Football Monster variant, and my prayers have been answered! My Pet Monster – Football Monster 14″ Plush
The packaging here is a love letter to the original ’80s release, with a stone castle wall backdrop and bold, dripping green lettering that screams vintage monster toy aisle. The open-front display box lets Football Monster burst right out at you, and I like how the illustrated elements on the cardboard, including the silhouetted monster graphics, keep that retro toy energy alive.
Dressed in a blue jersey with orange and green striped accents, Football Monster is a chunky, gloriously textured plush with layers of teal, crimson, and purple high-pile faux fur that all clash in the best possible way. Those oversized brown claws have a leathery sheen to them, dotted with pale blue spots, and the orange breakaway cuffs connected by a plastic chain sit perfectly against the shaggy red arms.
The back of the box leans into the play factor, with a photo showing a kid in a matching blue football jersey and helmet snapping apart the wearable breakaway cuffs, which is a fun throwback to the original toy’s signature gimmick. You can see how the Football Monster plush is featured alongside the child, and the combination of the blue halftone dot pattern and comic-style callout bursts gives the whole package a playful, Saturday-morning-cartoon feel.
I’m really digging the sculpted face up close, where those bright yellow eyes with green irises sit under a wild tuft of purple and white fur, giving Football Monster so much personality. The orange pimpled snout is a perfect rubbery counterpoint to the soft teal fur surrounding it, and those cream-colored fangs jutting out from the upper lip nail the vintage character design.
Here’s a closer look at the helmet, which has a great molded plastic feel with a blue shell, an orange and lime green stripe running down the center, and slots cut out to let those corduroy-textured tan horns poke through on either side. The jersey’s sleeve cuffs have a subtle quilted texture on the orange wristband sections, and you can see how the “My Football Monster” graphic across the chest ties the whole look together without feeling overdone.
