Thanks to an anonymous source, we have confirmed that a New Eternia Sy-Klone and New Eternia Mer-Man are coming to the MOTU Masterverse line in 2024! We previously reported that Sy-Klone was going to be part of the Wave 13 assortment, but now we have learned that he will be a New Eternia version! Not only are we getting New Eternia Sy-Klone, but we are finally getting a classic New Eternia Mer-Man as well! This is great news to fans ears, as thus far we have only gotten 2 animated Revelation cartoon versions of Mer-Man thus far.

Sy-Klone

Sy-Klone was introduced into the Masters of the Universe toy line in 1985. Given that the cartoon series was drawing to a close by the time he was introduced, his role in the show is so brief as to be almost nonexistent. He appears only in minor, fleeting cameo appearances in two episodes: “Beauty and the Beast” and “Here, There, Skeletors Everywhere”.

New Eternia Sy-Klone may include some accessories to give him an alternate look that might resemble some of his concept images as seen below from The Power and Honor Foundation book. You can see that Sy-Klone looks more robotic in these sketches, and he has a very colorful lenticular graphic on his chest. He had green accents on his arms and his legs were green as well. The right working design of Sy-Klone looks very different, and was used in a few mini-comics, most notably “Spikor Strikes”, and mistakenly referred to as “Tornado”.

MOTU Classics Version

Sy-Klone was produced in the MOTU Classics line 2011. He sported the classic yellow and blue paint app and his lenticular sticker in the middle of his chest. They also added a yellow sheild to his arensal a red hulahoop (kidding!!!) looking cyclone ring.

Sy-Klone’s MOTU Classics bio reads: “Protector of the Legacy Stones and the Last Defender of Anwat Gar, Sy-Klone joined the Masters of the Universe alter the Stones were destroyed and his mission completed. He wears the last remaining TECH vest Armor created by his Gar ancestors to terrorize Eternia alter the Great Wars. Its built-in wind rockers allow the user to create powerful vortexes of spinning energy as a defensive weapon or to fly through the air. Sy-Klone has upgraded his Armor to also include cosmic radar which lets him sense the physical presence of evil long before others. Sy-KloneÂ’s wind Powers and radar Cheste make him combat ready!”

His torso will still pop off and he actually spins. He comes with 2 extra hands that are tornados, shield, red cyclone rings like what came with the MOTU Classics figure. You pop his torso up and he spins! Sy-Klone maintains all the same articulation as the rest of the figures. He has is lenticular sticker on his chest as well.

Mer-Man

Mer-Man was part of the first series of Masters of the Universe action figures released by Mattel in 1981-1982. The character was conceived as Skeletor’s most prominent henchman after Beast Man. With the leak of Mer-Man coming to the Masterverse line, it only makes sense that they would give him the New Eternia treatment. Although a version of this style of Mer-Man was developed and produced in the Power Con 2020 exclusive Lords of Power 5-Pack, it will be amazing to see how Mattel brings the classic concept of Mer-Man to life, in New Eternia style.

MOTU Classics Version

The MOTU Classics version of Mer-Man was released in 2008, and really captured his classic look! He came with his corn cob sword and trident staff. This version of Mer-Man was the quintessential version of Mer-Man at the time. We expect that the New Eternia version of Mer-Man to be similar to this MOTU Classics and to include both his vintage style looking head and his more vintage original cross sell style head.

The classic Mer-Man was an exciting addition to the Masterverse line, but he was still a Revelation version of Mer-Man. Fans were happier than the version 1 of Mer-Man, but fans were still left clamoring for a New Eternia non-animated version of Mer-Man in the Masterverse line. It is great to finally know we will be getting the perfect New Eternia version of Mer-Man!

Below we can see what the Revelation classic Mer-Man looked like.

Netflix Revelation Cartoon look:

This version of Mer-Man is a more classic version we but, from the Netflix Revelation cartoon. From his aquatic seashell pearlescent chest armor, to his crusty corn cob sword, to the look on his face, Mattel really nailed the animated look of Mer-Man perfectly!

Mer-Man did not always see eye to eye with Skeletor and Evil-Lyn, but on occasion could be pursuaded to collaborate with them. He made his home in the Crystal Sea where he ruled over the Aquaticans. During one such time, they pirated the luxury liner Sea Eagle as it sailed into Mer-Man’s territory, the Crystal Sea. The Aquatican underlings of Mer-Man made sure to secure the wrists of He-Man and Teela with special cuffs powered by a magic crystal. The two heroes were then dragged into the water to drown, but Man-At-Arms, wearing special scuba attachments, swam out of nowhere to save them. Back on board the Sea Eagle, the heroic warriors swiftly defeated Skeletor, Mer-Man and his warriors,

Years later, Teela was reminded of the earlier encounter when she once again crossed the Crystal Sea, this time accompanied by an unlikely group consisting of Evil-Lyn, AndraOrkoBeast Man and Roboto, who helmed the ship. Once again they were attacked by the Aquaticans led by an older, more ravaged looking Mer-Man, and just like the previous encounter, Man-At-Arms showed up out of nowhere to safe the day. Man-At-Arms and Evil-Lyn forced Mer-Man to show them the way to the gate of Subternia. Mer-Man swore revenge after fulfilling his duty and being let go.
