Strobo and Laser Light Skeletor MOTU Origins Teased Again

I’ve got to say, this is the kind of detail that keeps me staring at packaging way longer than I probably should, because aside from the very obvious nod to Laser Light Skeletor, there are some deeper cuts baked into the MOTU Origins Deluxe Laser Power He-Man box art that feel like Mattel quietly winking at longtime fans, and as we’re rounding up the previous teases of Strobo and Laser Light Skeletor, it really starts to paint a much bigger picture. Strobo and Laser Light Skeletor showing up again is not something I can just brush off as coincidence, especially with how deliberate these teases have been across multiple releases now, and it feels like the Powers of Grayskull thread is slowly but surely coming into focus. Strobo in particular feels closer than ever when you think about the fact that Sy-Klone’s tooling already exists in Origins and even carried over into the Sketch Book Series, which makes that reuse pathway pretty straightforward if Mattel wants to go there. Although I wanted to believe that Megator was teased again, the art shows the ball and chain from Grayskull Tower looping over the track but this where even a small details being featured on the box art is enough to get my gears turning. Mattel didn’t spell anything out during the Mattel Creations REVEALED stream, but this is exactly the kind of slow-burn buildup that I love digging into, connecting those dots across packaging and reveals, and right now it really does feel like Powers of Grayskull is inching closer to becoming a much more active part of the MOTU Origins lineup. Also, I definitely want to take a moment to call out just how incredible the artwork is here because it deserves it. The MOTU Origins Laser Power He-Man packaging features front and cardback art by Axel Gimenez with colors by Daniel Colorist Alonso, and the overall art direction by Roy Juarez really brings everything together in a way that feels both classic and fresh. I always appreciate when the packaging gives us this much to look at, and this is one of those cases where the art is doing a lot of the storytelling for what might be coming next.

Before diving into all of the hidden details, I want to call out that this artwork comes from the incredibly talented duo of Axel Gimenez and David Cal Alonso, and you can actually spot their signatures worked right into the art itself, which is such a cool touch, which are like Easter eggs so it’s always fun to see where they show up. I really appreciate how their style brings these scenes to life with sharp line work and bold color choices that make every element pop while honoring the figures we grew up with!

Laser Light Skeletor Tease

Zooming in on Skeletor here, I like how both pieces of art really lean into that tech-heavy look with the red laser power Havoc Staff dominating the scene, showing off all the illustrated ridges, circular emitter details, and that glowing energy effect building at the end. The hooded cloak flows back behind him while the harness and armor pieces stay tight to the body, and that mechanical arm is front and center, lit up as if it is channeling power straight into the weapon. The skull face pops with those bright eyes under the hood, and you can see how the stance is braced as he fires forward, matching the larger battle scene we saw earlier. What stands out to me is that this is now another clear nod to Laser Light Skeletor, and when you stack this with the previous teases on the Eternia playset box art and the Camo Khan card art, plus this latest appearance, it really feels like Mattel keeps putting him right in front of us without officially saying it yet.

Strobo Tease

Taking a closer look at the card art, I like how the action spreads across the scene with Laser Power He-Man charging forward while Laser Light Skeletor is defending himself. Off to the side, you can see Strobo with blaster in hand, who is clearly teased, tucked into the chaos of the battle. It lines up with what we’ve been seeing across multiple pieces of packaging, as Strobo first showed up on the Lord Gr’asp card art, reinforcing that he’s not just a one-off Easter egg but likely part of a bigger plan.

Eternia Playset Easter Egg

On closer inspection, that hanging ball and chain does not look like a tease for Megator after all. It appears to be a visual nod to the Eternia playset feature connected to Grayskull Tower, where the ball and chain loops around and can automatically drop when the cable car passes by. I like that this artwork is pulling in an actual play feature from the Eternia Playset rather than hinting at a character, because it ties the scene back to the vintage playset in a really specific way.
