Mattel and Paramount just recently revealed the new Teenage Mutant Ninja MOTU Origins Turtles of Grayskull crossover line. Fan reaction has been mixed and it seems like you either love them or hate these new TMNT Crossover figures! There does not seem to be a middle ground and, with all crossovers and mashups, they will appeal to a subset of collectors! MOTU Origins waves are typically made up of 6 figures most of the time which includes 4 standard figures and 2 deluxe figures. With the new TMNT MOTU Origins Turtles of Grayskull Package Reveals we have now confirmed that Wave 1 will include the 4 standard figures: Man-At-Arms, Mutated He-Man, Leonardo, Donatello. And we have an anonymous source that tells us that there are 2 Deluxe Figures in Wave 1 being Mouse Jaw, and Krang! From the promotional poster and the revealed artwork, we know that more characters like Beast Man, Skeletor, Casey Jones and Shedder are going to join the line up, so let’s take a look at the TMNT MOTU Origins Turtles of Grayskull Wave 1 Confirmed!

Leonardo

Leonardo looks more like a typical Leonardo figure, but with a MOTU style buck. He has his signature blue bandana, and he is wearing blue shoulder armor. He also has cool chest armor with an “L” in the MOTU style in the center of his chest armor.

Taking a closer look at Leonardo’s armor, he has a gray harness that holds the ‘L’ chest armor in place. The ‘L’ is set off by a light gray backdrop helping it to stand out. The straps are a dark gray and have a turtle shell integrated into the piece. The loin armor has a turtle shell towards the top of the belt with some nice rivet detail adorning the armor.

He also has two separate pieces of arm armor that cover his forearm and his bicep. The armor resembles that of a turtle shell (surprise) and the armor has straps that hold into place. The forearm armor looks like it fits nicely over his writ bracers. Given that these are turtles, we can see that a new hand design was created especially for line, which consists of a thumb and two fingers. The sword design is unique to the line and the blade has a feel of a sabre with one crossguard!

Donatello

Donatello looks like a TMNT version of Man-At-Arms and he is clad in purple armor and wields a staff that is shaped like MAA’s mace.

HPR02_Turtles-of-Grayskullâ„¢_Donatelloâ„¢_Action-Figure

Dontello’s armor is one of my favorites and it really blends the crossover nature of this figure, making it stand out above the rest. The purple color plays very nicely off the green from the figure buck. The armor also has turtle shell detail on the chest armor, which is really pronounced on the protruding armor that covers his throat. The silver detail and molded parts on the armor are very Man-At-Arms as the pieces look bolted on to the chest armor. The forearm and bicep armor are two separate pieces, which also have a turtle shell motif.

The lower leg armor has a turtle shell covering the kneecap that flows into a layered design moving toward the feet. Getting up close and personal with the feet, this is a newly tooled part for the line. Taking a look at the helmet, it appears that this part could come off as it has a tight fit around Donatello’s head. The helmet has all of the MOTU feels, completing the Man-At-Arms style which looks great on this turtle!

Man-At-Arms

Man Art Arms, looks more that an actual Man At Arms figure, but you can see that he has a turtle shell shield and his trusty mace, He is clad in his yellow armor and he looks amazing!!

HPR04_Turtles-of-Grayskullâ„¢_Man-At-Armsâ„¢_Action-Figure

Getting a closer look at the head sculpt and helmet design, it appears that the helmet could be removable. The helmet also has a samurai feel to it with the black armor coming down and covering his cheeks and the back of his neck. They gave Man-At-Arms a nice thick mustache and his face sculpt came out nicely! In classic Man-At -Arms fashion, he is clad in yellow armor that reminds me of the MOTU Origins release. He also comes with oversized left shoulder armor that have blue metal plates that are the same color as his helmet.

The loin armor is split down each thigh, which does not give any coverage for Man-At-Arms man-bits. The shield has the appearance of a turtle shell and the blue piping around it is a very nice touch!

Mutated He-Man

He-Man has blue translucent skin and armor that is akin to Anti-Eternia armor! It appears like it is some form of a mutated version as the TMNT line there is Mutagen (A.K.A “The Ooze”), which is a chemical substance that comes from Dimension X, and the reason why the Ninja Turtles (and many of their friends and foes) were created into what they are today. He comes with a silver spiked club that is a reuse of Spikor’s MOTU Origins club.

HPR03_Turtles-of-Grayskullâ„¢_He-Manâ„¢_Action-Figure

The colors on this figure are so whacky and over the top that and it looks great! He has neon green hair with a black headband and red beady eyes. He has a snarled look on his face and you can see the mutagen running down his neck and into his chest. The chest harness has the classic Masters of the Universe ‘H’ and the coloring is very anti-Eternia! The red spikes are raised and give the armor straps a very cool look that add depth to the design.

The translucent plastic is a fansaticdesign choice as this reminds me of how Mattel designed the Masters of the WWE Universe figure, Faker (aka John Cena…I bet you are humming his entrance music as you are reading this…you are welcome). You can also see the mutagen green infecting the arms and, in the translucent parts, it creates a cool effect! The spiked mace reminds of the weapon that the MOTU character Spikor wields, but without the handle. The wrist cuffs also have very large spikes, which gives the figure a meaner look!

Wave 1 Deluxe Figures

Our speculation for Wave 1 will include 2 Deluxe figures

  • Krang
  • Mouse Jaw

Krang

It looks like Krang uses the Andre the Giant buck from the WWE Superstars line. As you can see, he has the Krang Robot body style head, visor and all, and it looks like Horde chest armor. Krang’s brain is in a center portion that from the images looks like it can be removed as the Origins bucks have that modularity to them. He is wearing a red helmet, red gloves, a black loin cloth with what looks like a bronze chain, and red boots.

Krang has the most intersting design with respect to the overall look and feel for the figure and the colors and they surprisingly work well together. In the TMNT cartoon from the 80’s, Krang was a reptilian creature in command of an army of Rock Soldiers. When he was banished from Dimension X, Krang was stripped of his body and reduced to a brain-like form. While on Earth, Krang allied himself with the Shredder, who, along with his robotic Foot Soldier army, moved into the Technodrome. In exchange, the Shredder had to design and build a new body for Krang, a human-shaped exosuit. The exosuit designed for this figure is outstanding! You can see Krang nested in the midsection of the figure and it looks like it has a piece that acts like a hinged door or a piece that connects to the right side but we would need to see more angles of the figure to make that determination. Krang has a very cool piece of silver chest armor with a skull design in the middle that forms a point towards his 6-pack abs!. The armor also has bronze chains that fit around his shoulders.

Krang’s exosuit head sculpt is also very unique and has sumaria feels from the way the hair is tied with a bronze ring to the face mask that covers his cheeks, yes, and nose! He also has two teeth that show when his mouth is closed, giving him a nasty look! The loin cloth is black with a bronze chain coming accross it and a belt that has some intersting defining lines.

Mouse Jaw

Trap Jaw (or Mouse Jaw) is also joining the line and boy is he supercharged! He has a while helmet and a flame attachment with a blast effect that looks like the Mouser from TMNT. It also looks like Trap Jaw’s attachments on his belt can be used to form an actual Mouser! How freakin cool is that?

HVJ63_Turtles-of-Grayskullâ„¢_Mouse-Jawâ„¢_Action-Figure

Trap Jaws head looks like it is being consumed by a Mouser head as you can see the classic Trap Jaw green face showing through. Keeping in fashion, the legs of the figure resemble of the mouser legs and we can assume that Trap Jaw is mostly rootic.

Mouse-Jaw-Turtles of Grayskull-MOTU-Origins-Crossover-3

The Mouse Jaw Trap Jaw figure has the coolest features! Getting a closer look at the arm attachment, it has a Mouser body and head with a very cool (well…hot) blast effect that plugs into the port on his mouth. The Mousers are a classification of robot developed by Baxter Stockman. in true Trap Jaw fashion, the legs of the Mouser attach to the belt and they are also removable, serving a very cool function.

In this very crude Photoshop job, you can get an idea what the Mouser would look like when you remove the body from his arm attachment and put the legs on!
