Back on December 2, 2023, Thanks to The Last Angry Collector, we got a sneak peak at the WWE Superstars Series 9 line up, which includes Kane, The British Bull Dog Davey Boy Smith, and a suprise Muhammad Ali figure! We knew about Kane and The British Bulldog were coming from the WWE Superstars reveals at SDCC 2023 but Ali was a pleasant surprise. We got wind of Ali from the Walmart listing and the WWE Superstars line is continuing with their 3 figure series based on the cross sell from the official images. I thought Ali would be in his referee outfit based on the critical role in the WWF as guest referee in the very first Wrestlemania but it’s great to see his figure in his boxing gear! We want to thank ActionFigureAttack, who is the Global Brand Marketing Manager at Mattel, for posting official images of the Series 9 trio!
The WWE Superstars Series 8 figure assortment contained Heel Hulk Hogan, Andre the Giant, and Doink The Clown.
British Bulldog Davey Boy Smith
David “Davey” Boy Smith was a British professional wrestler, also known as (he British Bulldog. Smith is known for his appearances with Stampede Wrestling, the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) and World Championship Wrestling (WCW). His WWE Superstars figure comes with a soft goods cape and extra hands! It would have been amazing if he came with his Bulldog Matilda but that would be the first for the line so we are not surprised that they did not make her.
He is packed on card without his cape on and the back of his card features sayings “Rile Brtiannia” and “Feel the bite of the British Bulldog.
His soft goods cape is the British flag with the words Bull Dog on the back. His cape also can attach to his hands like he was shown coming to the ring!
His head sculpt features his hair in classic braids and his wrestling outfit has the British flag elements like his traditional wrestling gear.
British Bulldog Bio (Source: WWE.com)
One of the most rugged and physically powerful Superstars in WWE history, “The British Bulldog” Davey Boy Smith began his career in sports entertainment as a skinny teenager in England. Competing alongside his cousin, Dynamite Kid, and other major European grapplers like Finlay, Smith quickly developed a reputation as an explosive young competitor and caught the attention of legendary trainer and promoter Stu Hart. The WWE Hall of Famer invited Smith and Dynamite to his Calgary-based Stampede Wrestling promotion in the early ’80s where the two continued to hone their skills as both rivals and partners.
Known as The British Bulldogs, the duo clicked as a tag team and soon joined up with WWE. Now accompanied by an actual English bulldog named Matilda, The Bulldogs thrilled audiences with their exciting matches against the team of Bret “Hit Man” Hart & Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart. Their crowning moment, however, occured at WrestleMania 2 when they defeated Greg “The Hammer” Valentine & Brutus “The Barber” Beefcake for the World Tag Team Championship. This major event was made even more significant by the presence of legendary rock star Ozzy Osbourne in the Bulldogs’ corner.
The team would hold the titles for nearly a year before leaving WWE to compete in Japan in the mid-80s. After years together, the duo eventually split with Smith, returning to WWE on his own in 1990. Sporting a more muscular build and a long, braided hairstyle, Bulldog became a major singles star and achieved the biggest moment of his career when he defeated Bret Hart for the Intercontinental Championship at SummerSlam 1992 in front of over 80,000 people at London’s Wembley Stadium.
Smith spent the remainder of his career competing in both WCW and WWE. As a tag team performer, Bulldog teamed with the likes of Lex Luger, Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart and Owen Hart, winning the World Tag Team Champions again with Owen in 1996. As a singles competitor, he held the European and Hardcore Championships and engaged in memorable rivalries with The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin, amongst many others. The British Bulldog passed away on May 18, 2002, but his legacy lives on today in WWE video games and on WWE Network, and he was recognized for his contributions to the industry in 2020 with induction into the WWE Hall of Fame.
Glenn Thomas Jacobs is an American professional wrestler and actor better known by his ring name Kane. Jacobs is a three-time World Heavyweight Championship having won the WWF Championship once, the ECW Championship, and the World Heavyweight Championship once; making him the first person ever to hold all three WWE world titles. His WWE Superstars figure comes with a soft goods cape and extra hands!
He is also packed without his cape on the card front and on his card back are sayings such as “That’s Gotta Be Kane,” “Through hellfire & Brimstone,” and “The Big Red Machine.”
Kane looks amazing in his classic came and face mask. You can also see his hair flowing from the back of his head sculpt. His soft goods cape also attaches to wrist.
Without the cape, the figure looks equally amazing as his wrestling outfit is painted on. Given that Kane eventually revealed his face, ot would have been cool to see him come with a removable mask like Mankind!
Kane Bio (Source: WWE.com)
At 7 feet tall and weighing in at more than 300 pounds, Kane is a monstrous abomination that seems to have been extracted directly from your childhood nightmares. Consumed by an infernal desire to set ablaze the lives of his fellow Superstars, Kane leaves a scorched path of destruction behind his fiery footsteps. Some of The Big Red Monster’s more demented acts have included setting a WWE Hall of Famer on fire, hitting a WWE executive with a Tombstone, kidnapping too many Superstars to mention and forcing Lita to marry him. No one is safe from his twisted desires and demonic impulses. Least of all, it would seem, Kane himself.
For years, the sadistic Superstar wore a ghoulish face mask designed to conceal hideous burns from a fire supposedly started by Undertaker years before. However, fans received a shock on one of the most infamous nights of Kane’s career when, after losing a Mask vs. Championship Match on Raw, the tortured soul was forced to unmask and reveal his face to the world.
Kane’s career has been marked by some stellar and brutally woeful contests in the ring against some of the biggest names in WWE, including The Undertaker, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, Shawn Michaels, Edge and others. He has also pioneered some of the most vicious stipulations of all time, including First Blood, Inferno, Stretcher and even Till Death Do Us Part Matches. Like his sibling, Kane wields a highly-decorated mantle of WWE glory, including reigns as WWE Champion, World Heavyweight Champion and ECW Champion. He has shown near-unprecedented versatility in the tag team ranks as well, finding championship success with a litany of partners such as X-Pac, Big Show and even twice with The Deadman.
Proving that he’s as adept at reinventing himself as his brother, The Big Red Monster has even dabbled in the world of corporate skullduggery, selling his mask to the highest bidder and for a time taking up office as WWE’s Director of Operations under the command of Stephanie McMahon and Triple H. Still, whether in a suit or a mask, as a member of a group or fighting alone, one thing is clear: The fire still burns in Kane.
Muhammad Ali (born Cassius Marcellus Clay, Jr.) was an American former professional boxer, generally considered among the greatest heavyweights in the history of the sport. Muhammad Ali played a critical role in the WWF as guest referee in the very first Wrestlemania. His WWE Superstars figure comes with a soft goods robe and lots of extra hands!
Unlike Kane and the Brtish Bulldog, Ali is packed wearing his robe and his card features the sayings “I am the greatest,” and “Float like a butterfly sting like a bee.”
His soft goods robe is red and white and has his name, Muhammad Ali, on the back!
He also comes with boxing glove hands, which is the first in the WWE Superstars line.
Muhammad Ali Bio
Muhammad Ali played a critical role in the WWF as guest referee in the very first Wrestlemania. According to Wikipedia, “The main event and last match of the night pitted Hulk Hogan, the reigning WWF World Heavyweight Champion, and Mr. T, accompanied by Jimmy Snuka, against “Rowdy” Roddy Piper and “Mr. Wonderful” Paul Orndorff, accompanied by “Cowboy” Bob Orton. Professional boxer Muhammad Ali was the special guest referee (on the outside of the ring), New York Yankees manager Billy Martin was the guest ring announcer while Liberace (accompanied by The Rockettes) was the guest time keeper. First, Piper, Orndorff, and Orton made their way to the ring as drums and bagpipes played, causing the crowd to boo. Crowd favorites Hogan, Mr. T, and Snuka made their way to the ring next. The match began with Mr. T and Piper in the ring and the two traded blows. Midway through the match, all four men began brawling in the ring, and Muhammad Ali punched Piper in an attempt to restore order. After the match’s order was restored, Orndorff and Piper had the offensive advantage. As Orndorff locked Hogan into a full nelson, Orton climbed the top rope to attempt to knock out Hogan. Instead, Orton mistakenly hit Orndorff, and Hogan pinned him to win the match. In frustration, Piper knocked out the in-ring official, Pat Patterson, before he and Orton retreated backstage leaving Orndorff alone in the ring with Hogan, Mr. T, and Snuka.
