Destro Krang TMNT x GI Joe Crossover Review

Destro and Krang are two characters I never would have thought to put together, but this might be one of my favorite mashups in the TMNT x G.I. Joe crossover line. Playmates found a clever way to combine them, placing Krang inside Destro’s android body with the exposed abdominal compartment serving as his cockpit. The Krang sculpt looks great in there, although I really wish he could be removed. That’s probably my biggest disappointment with the figure, especially since being able to take Krang out would have added another fun element to the crossover. The rest of the figure has plenty to like, from Destro’s familiar metallic mask and oversized red collar to the green controls, red thigh straps, and silver details throughout the armor. The paint is mostly clean on my copy, although there is some noticeable silver paint slop on the waist. Even with those issues, I really love what Playmates did here. It’s a weird combination that works far better than I would have expected, and having Krang peering out from Destro’s body is just a lot of fun. Packaging
The oversized TMNT and G.I. Joe logos make the crossover immediately clear, while the torn-paper graphics give the packaging a comic-book feel. The Destro Krang artwork combines Destro’s metallic mask and red collar with Krang inside the android body.
The side artwork gives us a closer look at the Destro Krang mashup, combining Destro’s metallic mask and high red collar with Krang inside the torso. I really like how naturally the two characters come together here.
The window extends around the side of the box, offering another look at Destro Krang and some of the included accessories. Large green lettering continues the TMNT-inspired graphics along the side panel.
The back of the box shows all nine TMNT x G.I. Joe character mashups, making it a handy checklist for collectors following the full assortment. Destro Krang also gets a clip-and-save command file, a fun callback to vintage G.I. Joe packaging.
Figure Details
Destro’s familiar metallic mask, narrow red visor, and small Cobra emblem carry over nicely here, with the oversized red collar framing the head. Silver paint continues across the helmet, mask, shoulder armor, and other mechanical details.
The figure comes with interchangeable android arm missiles featuring three red projectiles surrounded by silver mechanical details. The waist armor has circular sculpted details, while small silver knee guards continue the metallic accents on the lower body.
There’s quite a bit of sculpting on the back, including segmented silver sections, a central vent, and riveted waist armor. Unfortunately, my copy also has a noticeable patch of silver paint slop on the waist.
There’s a surprising amount of detail packed into the forearm cuff, including panel lines, a circular opening, red controls, and several raised sections. The shoulder armor has additional panel work and a raised ridge running through the center.
You get two melee weapons here, the Android axe and Mutant mace. The axe has broad silver blades and a ribbed handle, while the mace uses a spiked head and chain-like grip, with both getting matching red guards.
The Mutant mace carries its mechanical styling into the grip, with a segmented shaft rising from a bulky cylinder covered in recessed panels. A thin red ring breaks up the silver finish and connects the accessory visually to Destro Krang’s armor.
The Android axe adds a pointed spear tip above its crescent blades, with stacked collars giving the head a more engineered construction than a simple double-bladed axe.
The huge shoulder armor, oversized gauntlets, and exposed muscular arms really sell the bulky android body. I also had no trouble taking either weapon in and out of the fists, which makes swapping between them nice and easy.
This is probably my favorite part of the mashup. Krang’s wrinkled sculpt and tiny painted eyes look great inside the open abdominal compartment, although I really wish he could be removed from the body.
The two weapons are quite different when you get a closer look at them, with the broad crescent blades of the axe contrasting nicely with the mace’s heavy spiked head and chain-like grip.
