Trap Jaw New Eternia Masterverse Review and Revelation + MOTU Classics Comparisons

Check out our review of the Masters of the Universe Masterverse New Eternia Trap Jaw, complete with a MOTU Classics and Revelation comparison!

The long rumored New Eternia Trap, was officially revealed at San Diego Comic Con 2023 and what an impressive figure he turned out to be. Not only do we see an updated version of Trap Jaw, this also marks the release of the new packaging and box art designs that the Masterverse line is transitioning to. Although we’ve seen a Masterverse version of Trap Jaw released for the Revelation subline, the kookie face sculpt and expression left fans clamoring for a version of Trap Jaw that harkened back to the MOTU Classics era. There are a ton of details and hidden surprises for this version of Trap Jaw this figure could definitely give the MOTU Classics version a run for it’s money.

The New Eternia Trap Jaw is a stunning figure and it hits all of the right notes with respect to the sculpt and accessories. Whether you are choosing to display this figure with his laser, hook, or clamp attachments, this figure will look amazing now matter how you display him.

This review also contains comparisons to the Revelation and the MOTU Classics versions so we can see all of the similarities and differences.

New Eternia History

As we’ve already seen a Masters of the Universe Revelation Deluxe Trap Jaw, it is amazing to see what a New Eternia version would look like! As the Revelation version looked exactly like the animated series, we feel like a New Eternia version would bring him back to his roots. Here is an early concept of Trap Jaw from 1982, who was first called X-Man! This version of Trap Jaw looks nothing like the New Eternia version, but we are not complaining as amking a version like this would have looked ridiculous

Digging around the net for anything I could find, we came across this illustration from the Battle Ram Blog which shows an image of the armor and how it connects from the left side over to the right side.

Box and Art

The box has been completely redesigned and it looks absolutely stunning! The previous Masterverse boxes suffered from a lack of design on the front of the boxes, which this version definitely corrects! We can see an amazing illustration of Trap Jaw on the front of the box with Sky Sleds and Eternian guards descending for battle! What is also different is the figure is now part of the box art on the back, which is amazing as it is hard to tell how the accessories look as there is a small plastic display window.

Another aspect that I love about the box design is that the illustration from the left side of the box wraps around to the front, which gives it a lot of depth and dimension. We also get a killer side panel illustration on the right side of the box, which is great news for in-box collector’s as this box will display beautifully!

Along with the redesigned box, the Masterverse logo also got an upgrade! The logo really hits home as it has integrated the classic rock bursts into the design.

Figure Details

There are so many ways to display this amazing figure, it will make your head spin! The accessories are nicely scaled with the figure and the newly added sword gives Trap Jaw a unique look that separates him from his previous versions.

Looking at the buck without his accessories, as he comes packed this way, you can see the stunning detail and craft that was poured into the this figure.

Trap Jaw still retains the classic zip lining ring on the top if his helmet, that has a nice silver line emanating from the top of the helmet down to his forhead.

The inside of the mouth also has a new design, which is both disgusting and awesome at the same time. You can also remove his lower jaw with ease and display him like that, if you choose! The back of the helmet also has some cracks to it, adding to the realism.

One amazing aspect of the New Eternia Trap Jaw is that you can remove his standard jaw and replace it with the clamp jaw accessory that is meant for this arm attachment! He looks so amazing with this on and I might choose to display him this way.

Taking a look at the armor, the mixing of the blue gray armor and the black makes the armor standout, making it feel like this has been pieced together. The added circuitry and details on the armor is also a nice upgrade! He even has a slot to place the sword, which is great because all ofTrap Jaws accessories can fit on to the figure.

The oversized right, mechanical, arm is unreal! It looks like an cog from a machine. It as a flywheel appearance to it and it gives Trap Jaw an even more menacing appearance as he is not only has a face only a mother could love, but the mechanics to back it up!

His left arm has a ton of detail and the darker blue armor goes great with his skin tone.

His belt has a crackled sculpt to it and the skull and crossbones are larger than life, adding that extra level of dimension! You can also stow his arm attachments on his belt, like previous versions of Trap Jaw.

The legs also got a redesign as they reuse Man-E-Faces shin amor, which is a fantastic choice has it stream lines the entire leg and its appearance.

Weapons

Trap Jaw comes packed with the usual accessories, which include the clamp, laser, and hook! He also comes with a new sword!

His sword can be plugged into his harm and it can also stow on his back. It has a white wrap for the handle and a ram’s head design for the crossguard.

The rams head only appears on one side as it is plain on the back, which is like the skull in the design.

The clamp, hook, and laser are amazing and there are even silver details that were applied to the laser!

MOTU Classics and Revelation Comparisons

We love to compare the previous versions of Trap Jaw and, in this review, we are showing the similarities and differences between the Revelation Masterverse version and the MOTU Classics version.

As you can see, there are many difference to point out so let’s dive into the details.

Revelation Comparison

The biggest differences lie in the blue pant app and the face design. The Revelation figure used the animated version that appeared in the Revelation Netflix series, which made the figure suffer from a very odd expression on his face. The oversized arm of the New Eternia version dwarfs the standard, more simplified arm in the Revelation verison.

From the sice we can get a better look at the oversized bionic arm of the New Eternia version. The left arms also differ in appearance as the New Eternia version gets more armor in all of the right places.

You can also see what a difference the Man-E-Faces knee armor looks, which totally stream lines the figure. Another notable difference is that the New Eternia version has a slot to stow his sword.

MOTU Classics Comparison

The New Eternia concepts lend themselves very well to comparisons as the MOTU Classics versions have been the standard that most collectors look to! The NE version has a more hunched appearance and a more streamlined helmet and head sculpt.

The NE version has an oversized right arm, it really makes the Classics version look tiny! The Classics version has some green paint app on the left arm but I live the streamlined look of the left arm on the NE version.

The armor is also different as there is a strap connecting the two pieces of armor on the NE version. The belts look very similar but my one nit pick with the Classics version was that the rings on the belt face in an awkward direction, making the accessories hang at an angle.

The leg armor is also similar, which looks great on both figures.
