Batman and Robin are back together again as McFarlane Toys celebrates one of the most recognizable eras in the Caped Crusader’s history with a new Batman Classic TV Series McFarlane Collector Edition 2-Pack! Featuring Adam West’s Batman alongside Burt Ward’s Robin, this set goes up for preorder today, August 25th, at 9am PT / 12pm ET at select retailers, with an expected ship date in October. I think the ’66 Batman series is a perfect choice for the Collector Edition line because these versions of the characters have a personality and visual style all their own, and seeing the Dynamic Duo recreated together at 7-inch scale immediately makes this release stand out. McFarlane also didn’t stop with the figures, loading the set with six extra hands, an alternate Batman portrait, two Batarangs, a Batradio, two art cards, and one of my favorite touches, the Shakespeare bust used to access the Batcave. Little details like that show some real appreciation for the source material and make this feel like more than simply another Batman release. Hopefully this also gives McFarlane an opportunity to explore more characters from the classic series in the Collector Edition line because there are plenty of villains I’d love to see join Batman and Robin on the shelf. The two-pack’s window box is packed with colorful comic-style onomatopoeia graphics, “POW,” “SWISH,” “CRASH,” splashed across the interior backing in bright pinks, greens, and yellows. Both figures stand in front of the packaging, giving a good sense of scale relative to the box.
Both figures are shown alongside their full accessory spread, which includes a bust with a hidden switch, two Batarangs in different sizes, what looks to be a small Bat-communicator device, swap-out hands for each figure, and figure stands. Batman includes an unmasked Bruce Wayne head sculpt with a clean, neutral expression that nailes the Adam West look.
Batman’s cowl has a glossy blue finish with sculpted ear points, and his yellow utility belt features individually sculpted pouches with fine line detail. Robin’s domino mask sits cleanly over a face sculpt that captures Burt Ward’s likeness, right down to the brown hair parted neatly to the side.
Both figures carry large, sculpted capes that drape with a nice weight to them, Batman’s in dark navy blue and Robin’s in bright yellow. The green pixie boots on Robin have a pointed, curled toe that’s a fun period-accurate detail from the show.
Batman and Robin are strung along a Bat-rope, both in their classic ’66 TV series costumes. Robin’s red costume with the “R” emblem, green gloves, green boots, and yellow cape are all present, while Batman sports his grey suit with the yellow oval Bat-symbol on the chest and a blue cape trailing below him.
