Classic Remastered 1988 TMNT Playmates Figures Revealed

So Playmates has finally gone and done it, they are giving us Origins style, newly articulated and new deco Classic Remastered 1988 TMNT Figures! Yes the classic Playmates 1988 Ninja Turtles figures we all know and love with the simple 5 POA are now going to become newly articulated and updated modern style figures! Huge thanks to the Mad Hatter Reviews on YouTube for the heads up that this was posted to social media! The Adventures in Collecting (@aic_podcast) reported that Playmates was soliciting NEW turtles based on the original 1988 toy designs at the The Toy Insider Spring Fling event! They had new TMNT Mutant Mayhem figures on display as well, but the thing that stood out to us here was these classic newly remastered 1988 TMNT Playmates Figures! We can’t be more excited to see these coming out in July, the only bummer is that they will be Walmart exclusives.
July 23, 2024 Update: Remastered Turtles Walmart Listings
The Walmart listings for the TMNT 1988 Remastered Turtles are live and here are the direct links to the product pages. As of this update, both Raphael and Leonardo are in stock but please check the Walart listing for actual stock status. You can always use the product pages to find the figures in-store.
July 12, 2024 Update: Remastered Turtles UPC’s
Huge thanks to Toy Habits Crew Member Berkie Allen for sending us the UPC’s for the 1988 Remastered Turtles figure assortment. Also, congrats on scoring the figures early as we expect these figures to be available for the July 2024 edition of Walmart (Cancel) Collector Con. Berkie also made this cool video comparing the vintage 1988 Turtles with the Remastered versions!

UPDATE: 04/03/2024: More Information & Hi-Res Image
Thanks to Pixel Dan for reaching out to Playmates to get additional information on these new Classic Remastered 1988 TMNT figures. Playmates responded to confirm the retail price at $12.99, and that these will indeed be Walmart Exclusives released this summer. Playmates did not provide any other specific information, but they did provide Pixel Dan with a Hi-Res image of the new Classic Remastered 1988 TMNT figures. So Let’s take a closer look and see what this new image reveals!
Here we can see more detail on the articulation or lack thereof on the figures. First we can see there is shoulder articulation, and a single elbow joint, along with only wrist swivel, and no wrist tilt. Moving down to the legs, you can see hit articulation, and what looks like a single knee joint at the knee pads. Then when we get down to the feet, you can clearly see only a foot swivel and no ankle rockers. This might make posing the figures in an action stance a bit more difficult. But the one thing that totally stands out to us in this image is the very heavy texture on the turtles skin. They are like inverted bumps, so divets in their skin. This is a bit over done and heavy and gives our turtle friends more of a frog like appearance. Let’s hope when we get these figures in hand, that they will look better.
The Toy Insider Spring Fling event image
Below is the original image the Adventures in Collecting (@aic_podcast) posted of the flyer seen at the The Toy Insider Spring Fling event.
Taking a look at the image above you can see that these new figures look like the Classic 1988 TMNT Playmates Figures we love, but have new articulation ala Originsish style with nicer deco paint applications! They seem to come on individual stands that look like roof tops with little brick wall parapets. I love the way they executed the new articulation as it does not detract from the classic look of the figures!
Also solicited was new figures based on the origins sketches of the Ninja Turtles shown below that will be Target exclusives. Each figure has it’s associated colored bandanas and arm bands and also classic weapons. These to look highly articulated and stylized. These look to be available in June.
