First look at Mattel DC Core Heat Vision Superman
Up, up, and away! Huge thanks to @just_bsing on Instagram for sharing our first look at the new DC Core Heat Vision Superman action figure from Mattel! This one was spotted online and should be going up for preorder soon, with an expected release window of late summer to early fall this year. Now, as a reminder, this first round of DC Core figures is part of Mattel’s kid-friendly line, with the collector-focused offerings not expected until next year. But I gotta say, even as a collector-first fan, I’m really digging what I’m seeing here. That heat vision effect piece is super cool, and I love how dynamic it makes the whole figure feel. How awesome is that?! It’s exciting to see Mattel getting their feet wet with the DC license and giving us a taste of what’s to come. If this is what the kid-targeted line looks like, I can’t even imagine what they have in store for us collectors down the road. Only time will tell, but I’m already looking forward to it. So let’s take a look at the Mattel DC Core Heat Vision Superman!

Clad in a glossy blue suit with red boots and a matching red belt, Superman sports a large deep red cape that drapes with a nice sense of flow. The classic S-shield on his chest pops with its bold red and yellow colors, and I’m really liking the sculpted panel lines running through the suit that give it a New 52-inspired look.

Superman features a heat vision effect piece that attaches to his face, with translucent orange and red plastic simulating the blast firing from his eyes. A finger is shown pressing against his torso, suggesting a button-activated feature that likely triggers the light-up effect.

Superman is loaded up with gray Kryptonite-styled gauntlets on all four limbs, connected by translucent green chain links that wrap around his wrists. The hand holding him gives a good sense of scale, and the figure looks to be in that larger kid-friendly size range.

Superman is shown here with the gray Kryptonite gauntlets attached to both fists, each trailing translucent green chain pieces that have a nice crisp plastic finish. His head sculpt has a slight upward tilt, and his glowing red eyes from the heat vision effect piece adds a cool asymmetric touch.

A close-up reveals the heat vision effect piece in full, with the translucent red-orange plastic extending from his eyes all the way down to his chest where it splashes across the S-shield. That head sculpt is really solid, with sculpted black hair that has a nice wave to it and a stern jawline just peeking out beneath the effect piece.
