Another stellar release from the Super7 ThunderCats Ultimates line, Grune The Destroyer Toy Variant is a home run! The Toy variant Grune is a stellar homage to his vintage counterpart! He has a vintage charm that Super7 captures so beautifully! It’s been almost a year since the Super7 ThunderCats Ultimates Grune Toy Variant went up for preorder, and now we have him here for an in hand review!

Looking at this version of Grune, just gives you instant nostalgia for his vintage figure! I really love this version of the Grune and they did an incredible job with capturing that charm and character of the vintage LJN version in both the color and styling.

Packaging
Grune comes packaged in the standard Super7 Ultimates packaging, without an outter sleeve or shipping box. The rear of the package features the same bio card info as the first version, but has an image reminiscent of the toy recolor.

Figure Details
Looking at all four sides of this Grune recolor, you can see what a beautiful homage to the vintage original this is! This version of Grune features a browinsh orange colored skin tone, a silver body suit, and reddish orange accents on his helmet and thighs. He has black shoulder guards, black gloves and silver and black boots.

Here you can see how Grune looks from each side. I love his lion head shoulder guards in black, they looks so cool!

Here we get to see the two alternate heads that Grune comes packed with. His helmet is fixed and can’t be removed, just like the vintage action figure. His alternate head has a more fierce grin on his face and he only has the one saber tooth. He has a long flowing brown mane of lion hair. I really love the pock marks on his checks from where whiskers would be and his bright red eyes. I love how the hair and face sculpt on is more retro looking than the version 1 figure and has a vintage charm to it!

We get some close ups of Grune. He has red black spiked wrist gauntlets and black gloves. We already mentioned the cool black lions head shoulder armor, but you will also notice the black belt with spikes! His chest armor is silver and his thigh guards are reddish orange. He has on silver and black boots. I also love how closely he resembles the vintage.

Some more additional close ups of his chest and back.

Comparisons
This review would not be complete without comparing to both the original vintage LJN figure and the Super7 Ultimate version 1 Grune. Here we can see the vintage LJN figure on the left, and the new Super7 Toy Variant on the right. You can see that the new Super7 version has a slightly lighter skin tone. I would have liked Super7 to have matched the skin tone a little closer, but overall, I think did an excellent job. I love the cuter face sculpt on the new Super7 one as it it much more cartoon accurate, that was a great improvement. The rest of the body suit and thigh guards and boots are a great match to the vintage figure. I really like the added chainmail texture the vintage figure had on his crotch and back. It would have been nice for Super7 to have included that. Overall this new Super7 Toy Variant is a stunning homage to it’s vintage original.

Here we get a look at the Super7 version 1 Grune and the new Toy Variant Jaga. of course the version 1 is supposed to be more cartoon accurate and the Toy Variant is supposed to be an LJN recolor. They both have an excellent place in my collection I love how the hair and face sculpt on the new Toy Variant is more retro looking and has a vintage charm to it as compared to the v1 cartoon accurate version.
