McFarlane DC Retro Super Friends Revealed at New York Toy Fair 2025

Growing up, I have fond memories of getting up early on Saturday mornings with a bowl of Lucky Charms and plopping down in front of our small 19″ TV set and watching the Super Friends with my sister! I looked forward all week to watching the adventures of Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, Robin, and the rest battle against the Legion of Doom! Well now, guess what? Super exciting news, that’s right, we are getting an all new Toy line by McFarlane Toys! McFarlane showed off their new 6″ DC Retro Super Friends figures at New York Toy Fair 2025! Yes you heard us correctly, Super Friends figures! I’m so excited that we finally get to see what these new figures look like, and McFarlane did an amazing job! By the looks of it, this new 6″ scale lends itself to bring us amazing sculpts to give us cartoon accurate figures! Thanks to Robdtoys and justbsing on Instagram for posting the images!

Super Friends
Super Friends was my all time favorite cartoon series growing up. Any child of the 70’s has fond memories of watching the Super Friends. The animated television series was produced by Hanna-Barbera and aired from 1973 to 1986. The show featured a team of superheroes from DC Comics, including Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and others, who came together to form the Super Friends. The series was known for its positive messages and lessons for children, as well as its action-packed adventures with the superheroes fighting against various villains to protect the world. The show also featured the sidekicks of the superheroes, such as Robin, Aqualad, and the Wonder Twins, who helped the team in their missions. Throughout its run, the Super Friends series went through various iterations and changes, including different team members, storylines, and animation styles. It was popular among children and comic book fans alike, and remains a beloved part of superhero animation history. Overall, Super Friends is remembered for its fun and adventurous storytelling, iconic characters, and inspirational theme of teamwork and heroism.
Every week, there was a new adventure of the Super Friends battling against the Legion of Doom! It was epic, and featured all our favorite DC characters! According to Super Friends – Wikipedia:
Super Friends is an American animated television series about a team of superheroes which ran from 1973 to 1985 on ABC as part of its Saturday-morning cartoon lineup. It was produced by Hanna-Barbera and was based on the Justice League of America and associated comic book characters published by DC Comics. Batman
Batman, also known as Bruce Wayne, is a superhero and a founding member of the Super Friends team in the popular animated television series of the same name. He is portrayed as a wealthy businessman who operates in Gotham City by day and fights crime as the dark and brooding Batman by night. In the Super Friends cartoon series, Batman is depicted as a strong and skilled vigilante with advanced martial arts training and a wide array of high-tech gadgets such as the Batmobile and the Batplane. He is known for his detective skills and his strategic mind, which allow him to outsmart and defeat his enemies, including the notorious villains of Gotham City such as the Joker, Penguin, and Catwoman.
Batman is often seen as the de facto leader of the Super Friends team, using his intelligence and tactics to guide his fellow superheroes in their quest to protect the world from various threats. Despite his serious demeanor and aloof personality, Batman is shown to deeply care for his friends and allies, always willing to put himself in harm’s way to ensure their safety. Batman (Universe of Evil)
Next up is the Universe of Evil version of Batman. Here we even get to see a sample of the packaging that has a classic Super Friends logo on the top with the classic rainbow stripping and a weathered look to the cardback. This will be a chase version of the Batman figure, paying homage to the red evil look of Batman from the Universe of Evil episode. Batman was dressed in all read with red eyes and black accents on his cape and cowl. You can see what he would look like in figure form from the version made by Figures Toy Co. In the Super Friends cartoon series, Batman Universe of Evil was a storyline that featured an alternate universe where Batman and several other superheroes had turned evil. In this universe, Batman was ruthless and used his skills and resources for his own gain, rather than for the good of the people. In Batman Universe of Evil, viewers see a different side of the Dark Knight as he teams up with other villainous versions of superheroes such as Superman, Wonder Woman, and Green Lantern. Together, they wreak havoc and terrorize the citizens of their world with their nefarious schemes. The storyline explores the idea of nature vs. nurture, as it is revealed that the evil versions of these heroes were not born evil, but rather became corrupted and twisted as a result of their experiences and choices. The Batman Universe of Evil arc is a fan-favorite amongst Super Friends fans for its intriguing premise and dark twist on beloved characters. It serves as a compelling exploration of the moral complexities of heroism and the consequences of power. Green Lantern (Hal Jordon)
Green Lantern was always a quintessential member of the Super Friends team, and Hal Jordon has always been the Green Lantern I remember as a kid and grew up with. I always loved his Kenner Super Powers figure, as a kid and Green Lantern was one of my favorite characters on the Super Friends cartoon series. I never had the Green Lantern figure growing up because I received Aquaman as a holiday gift and my sister got Green Lantern, so we had it. We played with our Super Powers figures together as kids, so we would not get duplicate characters, so my sister always had Green Lantern snatched up. Well as an adult collector, I have been to obtain my own Kenner vintage Green Lantern figure, but I will always have fond memories of playing Super Friends with my sister and admiring her Green Lantern from a far. Once the Super Friends DC Direct version was released in early 2000, the figures were expensive and hard to get, so that was yet another Green Lantern I was never able to acquire. He looks like he stepped right out of the TV screen!

GREEN LANTERN
The Ringed Ranger
Test pilot Hal Jordan was mysteriously taken from his plane one day by an eerie green glow. Brought to the crash site of an alien vessel by it’s pilot, Abin Sur, Jordan was named to replace the dying Sur as Green Lantern, protector of space sector 2814. It was Jordan’s noble spirit and force of will that led the ring to seek him out as a replacement. Green Lantern has a powerful ring that responds to the user’s will, all-powerful except for an impurity which renders it unable to affect all yellow objects. Green Lantern’s ring must be repowered every twenty-four hours from the battery that is linked to the central power source on the planet Oa.This figure’s power action allowed him to point his Power Ring in the forward direction, as if using it. This action was accomplished by squeezing his legs together.

The Green Lantern figure was released in 1984 as part of the Super Powers Collection‘s first wave of figures. Green Lantern’s mold would later turn up repainted as the Riddler, but the majesty still remains.

Sinestro
Sinestro, member of the Legion of Doom, yes man to Lex Luther and arch enemy to Green Lantern, he can always be seen wheedling a yellow power ring of his own. Remember for his purple skin, Sinestro never got an original release in the Kenner Super Powers line. Well now, just like Black Manta, he will be coming to the new McFarlane DC Super Powers line!

Once considered the greatest Green Lantern in any sector, Sinestro came to believe that the only way to ensure order in the universe was through the reign of fear. Founding his own Corps on that basis, Sinestro became one of the deadliest threats the Green Lanterns have ever faced. He has clashed frequently with Hal Jordan; the relationship between the two is a complicated one, a mixture of animosity and respect in equal measure. He uses his yellow power ring to ensure a reign of terror wherever he goes. Throughout his villainous career, he became a member of the Legion of Doom to plague his arch-nemesis, Hal Jordan, as well as the other Justice Leaguers.

Riddler
The Prince of puzzlers Riddler is said to be coming in this new toy line! Always a nemesis for Batman and Robin, the Riddler is a classic villain to be included in this new line! The Riddler is a supervillain character from the Super Friends cartoon series. He is known for his green costume, question mark motif, and his obsession with puzzles and riddles. The Riddler is a cunning and intelligent criminal who uses his mind to commit crimes and outsmart his enemies. Again this is the second figure that McFarlane showcased in it’s packaging.
In the Super Friends series, The Riddler is a recurring antagonist who often teams up with other members of the Legion of Doom to fight against the Super Friends. He is portrayed as a mischievous and playful villain who delights in testing the intellectual prowess of his adversaries with his fiendish riddles and traps. Despite his intelligence and cunning, The Riddler is usually outwitted and defeated by the Super Friends, thanks to their teamwork and superpowers. Nevertheless, he remains a popular and iconic villain in the DC Universe and continues to challenge the heroes of Gotham City with his clever schemes and puzzles.
Lex Luthor
Head of the Legion of Doom, in the Super Friends cartoon series, Lex Luthor is depicted as one of the main antagonists and the archenemy of Superman. He is a brilliant scientist and wealthy businessman who often uses his intellect and resources to create various schemes to take down the Super Friends and conquer the world. Lex Luthor’s sculpt turned out spectacular and I think that the 6″ scale lends itself to these better sculpts to give us cartoon accurate figures!
Luthor is portrayed as a cunning and manipulative villain who is willing to go to extreme lengths to achieve his goals. He is known for his advanced technology and inventions, as well as his mastery of strategy and manipulation. Despite his intelligence and resources, Lex Luthor is constantly foiled by the Super Friends, particularly Superman, who always manages to outsmart and defeat him. Throughout the series, Lex Luthor is shown to be a formidable adversary, constantly devising new plans and schemes to defeat the Super Friends. Despite his many failures, he remains determined and relentless in his pursuit of power and domination. Lex Luthor’s character in the Super Friends cartoon series embodies the classic villain archetype – ruthless, power-hungry, and always looking for ways to defeat the forces of good.
