Mattel has finally updated it’s US launch calendar and MOTU fans have not one but TWO drops to look forward to! One is labeled “Masters of the Universe” and “Members Only” and the other “Members Only Access 24 Hours.” We have a very good idea of what this might be as we have been covering several figure teases for you in the past. The candidates include The Great Black Wizard, Draego-Man, The Dragon Lord and Eldor. Or it might be a whole new character surprise as we were not expecting Red Shadow last time around. For the Member Only Access drop on the 28th, we are hoping it is another MOTU Origins vintage figure to help finish out the line. We could see a MOTU Origins Stonedar but we are guessing at this point but we will have to wait and see. For now, let’s take a look at the possibilities for this Mattel Creations January Launch Calendar Club Grayskull Exclusive Mystery preorders.

The Great Black Wizard
Wow, talk about a jaw-dropping discovery! It looks like saintgong from Instagram might have struck gold again, as he’s scored what appears to be a test shot for a potential upcoming MOTU Origins Club Grayskull exclusive Great Black Wizard! If that name sounds familiar, it’s because this mysterious sorcerer hails from the incredible mind of Axel Gimenez, whose concept art has inspired some of the most legendary designs in the MOTU Classics line and now the Origins line. What makes this even more intriguing is that saintgong has a solid track record as he was the first to reveal the test shot of the Skele-Shredder SDCC 2025 exclusive, which turned out to be 100% real! With a confirmed Members Only Club Grayskull figure slated to drop on November 18, 2025 on Mattel Creations, the timing couldn’t be more perfect for this reveal. If this turns out to be the real deal, we could be seeing yet another deep-cut character leap from concept art into collector shelves! Until we get official confirmation, let’s dive in and take a closer look at these test shot images of the Great Black Wizrd!
Great Black Wizard Concept
The concept of the Great Black Wizard came from Axel Gimenez, who is recognized for his dynamic art style and his ability to capture the iconic characters and settings of the MOTU universe. His illustrations have brought new life to the adventures of He-Man, Skeletor, and their allies and enemies. In the prolific days of the Masters of the Universe Classics era, Axel had come up with countless concepts for figures that were never produced as actual figures and the MOTU Origins lines is providing a canvas for his work to come alive in plastic.

Great Black Wizard Concept
The Great Black Wizard, one of Axel Gimenez’s concepts held over from the MOTU Classics era, was a skull-faced sorcerer and evil warlord from Eternia’s distant past. His magic gave Snake Face the power to turn victims into stone. He also created the dragon-human hybrid Draego-Man and took part in the Second and Third Ultimate Battlegrounds, fighting alongside the Horde, the Snake Men, Skeleteen, and the Unnamed One. Here is the concept that was meant for the Masters of the Universe Classics line.

Here is a more updated version that Axel Gimenez illustrated and Diana Egea inked.

Great Black Wizard Test Shot
The figure highlights a detailed sculpt with layered armor elements and clean paint separation across the body. The front view shows the torn loincloth with textured folds and battle-worn holes, while the purple armor contrasts sharply against the pale lavender skin tone. From the back, the deep violet chest piece continues with sculpted panel lines and a connection port, and you can see how the turquoise belt piece breaks up the darker tones. Up close, the side view shows the crisp skull details on the chest emblem and the metallic gold trim around the bracers and boots.

The figure has been teased multiple times throughout the MOTU Mini Comics and card art, often appearing in scenes that hinted at his arrival and built out the Powers of Grayskull storylines. His skeletal visage and arcane armor have been depicted in stories that expand on Eternia’s darker lore, suggesting his deep connection to the origins of evil magic. Seeing him fully realized in figure form ties together those long-running teases, bringing to life the art and illustration from card art and mini comics.

The Great Black Wizard figure shows off a striking combination of deep purple tones and bone-white details that immediately stand out. His chest armor features an intricate skull emblem framed by gold and teal accents, with sculpted cords adding texture across the design. I can really see the sharp facial sculpt here, with dark recessed eye sockets and pale blue pupils giving him that eerie magical presence. The tattered loincloth, gold-trimmed boots, and matching bracers round out a look that feels right out of the ancient wizard lore teased in the MOTU comics.

The thigh sculpt shows raised ridges and recessed panel lines that give it a mechanical look. You can see small molded shapes along the side that resemble built-in plating, with sharp contouring around the knee joint. The detailing continues around the back of the thigh, where the sculpt transitions cleanly into the knee armor.

The Great Black Wizard is shown alongside the Skele-Shredder test shot and Scareglow, giving a clear look at their contrasting sculpted styles.

DraegoMan and Dragon Lord Teases
With the reveal of the Red Shadow MOTU Origins Club Grayskull exclusive figure, Mattel Creations quietly dropped a treasure trove of details that had me grinning from ear to ear as I pored over the images on their site. Not only did we get our first clean look at the production figure in all of its vivid, sinister glory, but the box art itself delivered the kind of deep-cut teases that make my collector brain light up like Castle Grayskull at full power. Right there on the panel art, Mattel slipped in hints at some seriously obscure MOTU lore, including a nod to an unproduced Alan Tyler concept from the 1980s. If you have a copy of the Power and Honor Foundation book like we do, you will immediately clock as one of those lost-era gems that rarely resurface. Seeing something that rare referenced on modern Origins packaging feels like unearthing a secret whispered through the decades, and I love when MOTU leans into its archival lore like this.

Dragon Lord
Dragon Lord shows up here in all his unproduced MOTU concept glory, sporting that fierce dragon-themed helmet, layered gold armor, and a staff topped with a blazing dragon motif while he steps forward with clenched fists and a flowing red cape that adds some extra motion to the scene.

According to the Power and Honor Foundation book, “Illustrated by Alan Tyler, and dated 13th September 1985, the interestingly-named Dragon Lord concept would have had a unique action feature. When activated, the figure’s face, chest and arms would have disappeared. How this would have been achieved will always remain a mystery, but it is clearly a concept that Tyler was interested in using.”

Draego-Man
Draego-Man is seen here unleashing a stream of fire from his mouth, showing off his red scaled body, segmented tail, and sharp armored details across his chest and limbs, and I’ve got to say, seeing him pop up in this artwork really makes me hope he finds his way into the MOTU Origins line after his memorable release in MOTU Classics.

During the Great Wars, the Dragons of Darksmoke engaged in numerous epic battles against King Grayskull and the Snake Men. Draego-Man, a magical being created by the Great Black Wizard, was a half-human, half-dragon entity. Rejected by Granamyr, he chose to ally with the Free People of Eternia. However, after the truce of the Three Towers, Draego-Man grew disillusioned with humanity and withdrew from society, choosing to live as an outcast in the Caverns of Rakash.

His bio reads, “During the Great Wars, the Dragoons of Darksmoke fought in many epic battles against King Grayskull and the Snake Men. A magical half human/half dragon creation of the Great Black Wizard, Draego-Man was shunned by Granamyr and allied himself instead with the Free People of Eternia. After the truce of the Three Towers, Draego-Man became so disgusted with the humans that he isolated himself from all civilization, living as an outcast in the Caverns of Rakash. After several millennia of bitter retreat, Draego-Man discovered Skeletor’s plans to enslave his dragon kin and use them as weapons against the Royal Palace. He returned from hiding to join Skeletor’s Evil Warriors seeking revenge against all who betrayed him. Draego-Man uses his flame breath and ability to manipulate fire to battle for the side of evil!”

Although this custom concept, by Tnemmokon, uses a Chap Mei figure, the overall look and feel of the MOTU Classics Draegio-Man is captured in MOTU Origins concept form. With Mattel making several winged figures, including Vultak from the Cartoon Collection, Ninjor and Hordak from the Turtles of Grayskull line, and New Eternia Hordak in the Masterverse line, we hope that these figures will pave the way for more winged figures in the future.

Eldor
Axel Gimenez is back at it again as he posted a photo on his Instagram page of the Super7 vintage Masters of the Universe Eldor figure that is on card and unopened. He simply put “✨Working…✨” in his post and the last time he did this, he featured an image of the Super7 vintage Masters of the Universe He-Ro, which can only mean one thing. Based on a recent post made by Mattel, they spilled the beans and made it publicly known that the MOTU Origins Eternia box art featured a ton of easter eggs as the Origins line is known for those teases turning into figures. Eldor was conspicuously missing from the teases on the Eternia box art so we are taking this a very good sign that (1) Eldor is coming to the Masters of the Universe and (2) that the Powers of Grayskull are headed to the Masters of the Universe Origins line.

Eldor Teased on Vypor Card Art
Talking a look at the latest Eldor card art tease here for the Vypor packaging. We can clearly see Eldor on his knees in front of Vypor. We also get a better look at the other new Snake Men in the scene, along with Lady Slither and her throne. The art shows Vypor front and center holding his scepter with Eldor on his knees while Lady Slither looks on in the background! We got wind that Eldor (and He-Ro) were coming to the MOTU Origins line so this is further confirmation. There are also some other Snake Men characters that resemble Frog Monger in the scene.

Eldor Teased on Camo Khan Card Art
With absolutely stunning artwork by Axel Gimenez, the front of the Camo Khan card back features all sorts of exciting MOTU characters. We can see a host of Powers of Grayskull characters. We have Megator, King Hiss riding the Tyrantisaurus Rex. We can also see Tung Lashor, Rattlor, Squeeze and Snake Face, who were also teased to be coming to the Origins line! King Grayskull is riding Bionatops, and as we saw on the Eternia display, there was an Origins version of King Grayskull as well! We already saw Rattlor and King Hiss revealed at SDCC just last month, so we know those Snake Men are coming! Then we see teases of Moss Man and Sharella, as we covered in Wun-Dar Card Art Teases New MOTU Origins Characters. Also pictured is Eldor, Turbodactyl and Tytus as well! Also illustrated is Castle Grayskull and the recently revealed Eternia playset! There are so many characters here that we have either predicted thru previous card art teases or haven gotten leaks on, so it is very exciting to see these characters on this artwork!

Here you can see a closer image of Eldor on Camo Khan’s card art!

Eldor Trademark Renewal
Eldor is a fun one, as he was one of the unproduced prototype characters of the “Powers of Grayskull” spin off line that never came to fruition in the 1980’s Masters of the Universe Line. Prototype images of Eldor and He-Ro had been around for many years, but we never got these figures as kids. But in 2019, thanks to bay area based Super7, we finally got Eldor & He-Ro figures as part of the Masters of the Universe Vintage Style 5.5″ collection. Eldor known as the Heroic Guardian of the Book of Living spells, looks just like his prototype images! The giant tri-fold book works like a magic trick and changes images by alternating the way the book is opened.

You can read all about Eldor’s creation and back story on the Eldor: (1987/2019) battleramblog.com. The trademark for Eldor was renewed by Mattel on 06/22/2021, so we can see that was also fairly recently. Let’s hope Mattel has plans for perhaps a “Powers of Grayskull” sub-line! How awesome would that be? I would love to get a vac-metal He-Ro as well in the Origins style articulation!!!
