February 15, 2024 Update: Rokkon MOTU Origins Preorder Date Pushed Back Until the 21st

Nothing like finding this stuff out at the last minute but it appears that Rokkon’s preorder date has been pushed back to February 21st, 2024 at 9am PT due to International shipping issues. Mattel did not end up sorting out there shipping issues and screwed a lot of collectors in the process.

February 12, 2024: Rokkon Mattel Creations Preorder

Mattel Creations has just released official images and preorder information for the upcoming Rokkon Masters of the Universe Origins Mattel Creations Exclusive! Rokkon is slotted to go up for preorder on February 16, 2024 at 9am on Mattel Creations. If you recall, the “Vintage” MOTU Origins line will be finished off as exclusives! In addition, Rokkon was recently teased on the box art for the Eternia playset. The new images include the card back art for Rokkon, and there are some incredible new figure teases that are getting us very excited! It appears that Mattel is cross teasing more figures for their MOTU Origins Cartoon Collection sub-line, which blew our minds 🤯! This makes sense since the “Vinage” MOTU Origins line has only a finite set of figures to build out the line! That said, let’s dive in and take a look at the Rokkon Masters of the Universe Origins Mattel Creations Exclusive Official Images and Preorder info!

You would have missed it, if you didn’t look carefully enough, but there a tease for Stonedar on the back of the card back art!

Looking very similar to Rokkon, Roy did include a figure tease to Stonedar on the card back, paying homage to the original artwork by Earl Norem shown below.

Stonedar is the leader of the Rock People. The character appeared late in the 1980s Masters of the Universe toy line, and as such appears in relatively few stories, with little consistency. He is often accompanied by his young friend Rokkon. The pair were like transforming MOTU figures but instead turning into something cool, they turned into rocks, which reminds me of that part in the movie Big where a toy company produces a Transformer that turns into a building!

Cartoon Collection Filmation Style Leech Tease

We already have Leech in the MOTU Origins line, but what we don’t have yet is a Cartoon Collection Leech! This card back teases the Filmation version of Leech! Here we can see what is clearly illustrated a Filmation Style Leech and Hordak!

Mattel-Creations-Exclusive-MOTU-Origins-Rokkon-Filmation-Leech-&-Hordak-Tease

The Origins Leech original release came with two heads. The alternate head sculpt captures the look of the 1980’s Filmation carton perfectly and the details are stunning! To the left, we can see what Leech looked like in the Filmation cartoon series, and on the left is Leech with his new head sculpt, which does a brilliant job of bringing us that Filmation look in a vintage Origins style. This same head sculpt, but in a different scale that was used for the MOTU Classics Leech.

Here we can clearly the Filmation Leech and his orange colored shoulder pauldrons, and lighter colored skin tone. Also you will notice the green and black torso design, plus his orange belt. The Leech on the Rokkon illustration is clearly drawn to represent this version! So it is amazing that we are getting a Cartoon Collection tease on this card back art!

Cartoon Collection Filmation Style Hordak Tease

We already have had many versions of Hordak in the MOTU Origins line, and we even got a blue version of him for the 2021 Powercon Exclusive 4 pack. But what we don’t have yet is a Cartoon Collection Hordak! This card back teases the Filmation version of Hordak, and will now allow collectors who missed out on that Powercon Exclusive to finally obtain him! Here we can see what is clearly illustrated a Filmation Style Leech and Hordak!

Here are the two releases of Hordak we have gotten in the Origins line thus far, if you don’t count the Deluxe Gray version. Many collectors missed out on the 2021 Powercon Exclusive 4 pack, so this will allow them to get that Filmation style blue Hordak they’ve been wanting!

Modulok Tease

The last figure tease we get on the Rokkon card back is Modulok. We have seen him teased many times before, which we recap below, but he is front and center on this illustration, which hopefully means we are getting close to him being released! His trademark was also renewed not too long ago!

Previous Modulok Card and Box Art Teases

As we covered in our Masters of the Universe Origins Teased Figures From Card Art article, Modulok has already appeared on several card back artwork. A gaggle of evil Horde henchman appear on the Sorceress’ card art as well as Hordak’s, including Mantenna, Modulok, Leech, and Grizzlor, make up the bulk of this section. Since we have now seen Modulok on 2 card back artworks and the trademark has recently been renewed, we can probably make this one a given to come to the Origins line in the near future!

Modulok MOTU Origins Tease and Trademark Renewal

Modulok is another very gimmicky MOTU Character. To sweeten the possibility, we discovered that his trademark was renewed on 03/25/2021. Shortly after his figure was release in 1985, Modulok appears on the toy line’s accompanying cartoon series, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe by Filmation. Consisting of 22 Body parts and a 2-part laser gun, Modulok was the first of its kind for the MOTU line! Coined ” Evil Beast of a thousand Bodies”, this Ultimate Transforming Creature was a member of the Evil Horde. Although the Evil Horde are used as the main villains Filmation’s spin-off series, She-Ra Princess of Power, rather than He-Man, Modulok is given the unique honor of making his debut on He-Man instead. Halfway through the first season of, She-Ra: Modulok is incorporated into the She-Ra series, the only character from either show to be transferred permanently from one to the other. This occurs in the episode “Gateway to Trouble” in which Modulok builds a device for Skeletor which can open a portal to Etheria to transport his whole army to the planet. This character is interesting because we recently got the reveal for a 4 legged Mantenna, and that new 4 legged sculpt has set the stage for perhaps how they can also pull off Modulok in the Origins style.

Rokkon is a youth of the Rock People, and the frequent companion of his mentor Stonedar. The character appeared late in the 1980s Masters of the Universe toy line, and as such appears in relatively few stories, with little consistency.
