Transformers Missing Link Megatron and Starscream Rumored for Future Releases
Now THIS is a Transformers Missing Link rumor I can get excited about! New information suggests Takara Tomy could be planning Missing Link versions of Megatron and Starscream, and if these two actually happen, I will literally lose it! Both characters are absolute G1 classics, and the possibility of modernized versions of their original toys with improved articulation is incredibly exciting. There’s also reason to take these rumors seriously. Back in September 2025, we covered rumors surrounding Missing Link Soundwave, Ironhide, and Ratchet, and all three eventually became reality. That doesn’t guarantee Megatron and Starscream will follow, but it makes the latest information worth discussing. According to a report from TFW2005, the information comes from the “Unicron Leaker.” Neither figure has been officially announced, and there are no confirmed release dates, prices, or preorder details.
And a HUGE shoutout to Toy Habits Crew Member Rob2023 for alerting me to this news! If you’ve watched our livestreams, you know Rob is always trying to get us to cover more Transformers news or somehow work the word “Transformers” into the conversation. LOL! Well, Rob, this one’s for you!
Note: All photographs in this article feature original Generation 1 Transformers toys and packaging for historical reference. They are not images of the rumored Missing Link figures.
Transformers Missing Link Megatron
The original G1 Megatron is an absolute classic, and bringing that design into the Missing Link lineup would be incredible! Unlike modern interpretations that often transform Megatron into a tank, the original toy transformed into a Walther P38-style pistol. That transformation is such an important part of the original figure, which makes this rumor particularly interesting.
Megatron’s original window box presented the pistol configuration beside a large character illustration, with his fusion cannon mounted on the robot’s arm. The packaging even advertised the Walther P38 transformation, which gets right to the biggest question surrounding a Missing Link release: would Takara Tomy recreate the pistol or choose a tank instead? I’d love to see the original transformation preserved. An orange barrel plug, as used on some previous Megatron toys, is one possible approach, although that alone would not necessarily satisfy every market’s regulations.

The vintage Megatron cardback used the classic Transformers space-battle illustration, with Megatron’s own character biography and technical specifications along the bottom. That shared illustration is part of what makes the original packaging so memorable, and it fits the Missing Link line’s emphasis on revisiting the early toys rather than replacing their identity with a completely different design.

The original Megatron’s silver chest, angular helmet, red waist details, and narrow legs give him a very different silhouette from later cartoon-based figures. His limited articulation and removable components are exactly the kinds of vintage compromises that a Missing Link update could address. The original barrel extension, stock components, and other accessories are arranged alongside the robot here, but no accessories have been confirmed for the rumored release.

Megatron’s enormous fusion cannon is another unmistakable part of the vintage design. The original accessories could be assembled into a separate weapons emplacement, pictured beside the robot with its long barrel pointing forward. Whether a Missing Link version would reproduce this additional configuration is unknown, but it is a good reminder of how much functionality was packed into the original release.

In its extended pistol configuration, G1 Megatron combined a silver body and black grip with a mounted scope, long barrel assembly, and stock. The mechanical detail on the pistol body is a major part of its appeal. Recreating those details while improving robot articulation would be an ambitious project, particularly if Takara Tomy retains the original transformation.

From the opposite side, the extended barrel and shoulder stock emphasize how elaborate the original weapon configuration could become. This is the version of Megatron that makes the alternate-mode question so important to collectors. A tank might avoid some of the complications associated with a realistic toy firearm, but it would also move the release away from the original G1 toy that Missing Link is built around.

Transformers Missing Link Starscream
Starscream is just as exciting for another reason: he could open the door to the entire Seeker lineup! Takara Tomy has repeatedly revisited Missing Link designs through additional versions and repaints, so it’s hard not to think about Thundercracker and Skywarp following Starscream. Those two are possibilities, not part of the current rumor, and the Coneheads would require more than simple color changes to reproduce their distinctive vintage designs.
Starscream’s original window box paired the F-15 jet with a large illustration of the Decepticon Air Commander. The purple grid background and bold Transformers logo are familiar parts of the early G1 presentation. If Takara Tomy follows its established retro-packaging approach, Starscream’s original box offers an obvious starting point, although no packaging for the rumored release has been revealed.

The original Starscream robot featured red shoulder sections, blue fists and feet, silver body components, and broad wings extending behind him. His jet nosecone rose above the head, while the launchers mounted alongside his arms. Those proportions are unmistakably G1, but the articulation was limited. A Missing Link treatment could retain the character of this design while making the robot considerably more poseable.

Starscream’s F-15 Eagle alternate mode is just as recognizable, with silver wings edged in red, blue vertical stabilizers, Decepticon insignias, and a tinted cockpit canopy. The removable fists and missile accessories are arranged in front of the jet. The basic vintage Seeker design was shared by Thundercracker and Skywarp, which is why a new Starscream mold would create such an obvious opportunity for additional releases.

The original Starscream cardback featured the same dramatic battle illustration used for Megatron, but the biography and technical specifications at the bottom belong to Starscream. That distinction matters when looking back at these shared vintage package designs. For me, the prospect of Starscream leading to a shelf of Missing Link Seekers is one of the most exciting possibilities raised by this rumor, even though only Starscream has been named.

Could Megatron and Starscream Be Next?
Megatron and Starscream would be major additions to Missing Link, and I genuinely hope these rumors turn out to be true. Megatron’s original pistol transformation is an absolute classic, while Starscream could become the starting point for Thundercracker, Skywarp, and potentially more Seekers. We’ve already seen the earlier Soundwave, Ironhide, and Ratchet rumors become reality. Hopefully, these two are next! For now, both remain unconfirmed. Takara Tomy has not announced either figure, and there are no confirmed preorder dates, prices, or release windows.
