MOTU Chronicles Flight Armor He-Man In-Hand Images Reveal Removable Hair

Mattel’s Masters of the Universe Chronicles Flight Armor He-Man is getting a proper in-hand look thanks to new photographs shared by Instagram collector @socal_derek1. The photos cover the packaging, accessories, armor from just about every angle, and a removable hairpiece hiding a hairstyle nobody was expecting. Flight Armor He-Man is part of the first Chronicles assortment alongside Mekaneck and Clawful. We previously covered the 2027 Wave 1 preorders and earlier in-package photographs. Derek’s new images give us a closer look at the asymmetrical armor and orange-visored helmet outside the box.

One of the more unexpected discoveries involves He-Man’s removable hair. Underneath those familiar flowing blond locks is a hairstyle that suggests Eternia’s most powerful man might be having a little trouble holding on to his.

Packaging

The Chronicles packaging features an illustration of Flight Armor He-Man beside the front window. The box uses the black-and-gold branding established for the line, with the blue armor and orange visor featured in the illustration.

The side illustration depicts He-Man charging forward in blue armor against a burst of yellow and orange as he rides his Sky Sled, with the orange visor and chest emblem carrying through the artwork.

The upper panel carries a smaller illustration of armored He-Man, along with the gold Masters of the Universe branding against the black packaging, which is the logo for the non-movie figures.

The package biography describes an attack from above and says He-Man uses Flight Armor, a super-charged Sky Sled, a shield, and a sword to defend Eternia. The back also features Mekaneck and Clawful from the first Chronicles assortment.

The contents diagram identifies the figure, helmet, long sword, dagger, and interchangeable hands. Interestingly, it doesn’t separately identify the removable hair, even though Derek demonstrates that feature in his photographs.

The side-panel illustration features Flight Armor He-Man charging forward with his sword raised overhead, wearing his blue armor and orange-visored helmet. A pair of Sky Sleds appear in the background, including one near the top of the illustration and another at the bottom with a rider firing a weapon. The bright yellow and orange background is filled with bursts of energy, while He-Man’s oversized armored fist and shoulder guard are featured in the foreground.

Figure Details

Without the helmet, the asymmetrical Flight Armor is the big story. One arm is bare and muscular, while the other is covered by a large shoulder guard and segmented armor down to the fist. The orange chest emblem, exposed abdomen, and layered waist armor combine He-Man’s familiar barbarian design with futuristic armor.

The unarmored side retains He-Man’s muscular build, with brown straps securing the chest plate and overlapping armored panels around his waist. His long blond hair is sculpted in swept-back strands, with darker blue armor covering the opposite shoulder and arm.

Around the back, the armor has several raised angular sections, a ribbed tube near the shoulder, and a gold-colored component across the lower back.

The armored side is considerably bulkier, with an oversized shoulder guard leading into layered upper-arm and forearm plates. The large gauntlet has an almost mechanical appearance compared with He-Man’s exposed opposite arm.

Here we get a closer look at the rear armor, including the raised geometric paneling and tubing running toward the shoulder. The photograph also reveals a rectangular slot beneath the removable long hairpiece.

The undersides of He-Man’s boots have sculpted wrappings and tread patterns, along with circular openings in the soles for a figure stand.

Between the weapon, the oversized armored arm, and the enclosed helmet, Mattel is taking this version of He-Man pretty far into science-fiction territory. Apparently, a sword and a tremendous amount of muscle weren’t enough this time around.

The unhelmeted head sculpt has a stoic expression, heavy eyebrows, and a squared jaw. His long blond hair retains the familiar He-Man appearance, while the orange chest emblem and oversized shoulder armor depart from his traditional design. I also love how the sunlight catches the translucent orange visor, giving it an almost glowing appearance. That’s a pretty cool effect!

The helmet has a rounded design with pointed extensions toward the rear and a translucent orange visor covering the face. Rather than using an entirely separate helmeted head, the helmet fits over the existing head sculpt.

Removable Hair and Alternate Looks

Now here’s something I wasn’t expecting. He-Man’s long blond hairpiece is removable, and underneath those glorious locks is a hairstyle that suggests Eternia’s most powerful man might want to start looking into Rogaine.

Between the receding hairline, slicked-back hair, and widow’s peak, he’s also looking suspiciously like Terence Stamp’s General Zod from Superman II. Apparently, when He-Man isn’t defending Castle Grayskull, he’s demanding that Superman kneel before him!

The side profile gives us another look at He-Man’s unexpected hairstyle. It’s quite a transformation from the blond barbarian we’re accustomed to seeing, although I have to admit that General Zod He-Man is growing on me. The hair, unfortunately, doesn’t appear to be doing the same.

Of course, there’s always the option of covering everything up with the Flight Armor helmet. The orange visor covers He-Man’s face, with pointed extensions at the rear of the helmet and an oversized shoulder guard below it. Not a bad solution to an Eternian hair crisis.

From the side, the helmet has a rounded shell extending toward the jaw, with the orange visor wrapping around the front. The layered forearm armor has darker paint applications in the recessed areas.

The rear view reveals the helmet’s pointed upper sections and angular back plate, with blond hair visible below. Ribbed tubing and the shoulder assembly remain exposed alongside the helmet.

Final Thoughts

Flight Armor He-Man is a substantial departure from the traditional design, with asymmetrical armor, an oversized gauntlet, and an orange-visored helmet. The exposed muscular arm, blond hair, and familiar facial sculpt still connect him to the He-Man we know.

The removable hairpiece was easily the funniest discovery in Derek’s photographs. Between his familiar blond locks, the General Zod hairstyle, and the Flight Armor helmet, He-Man has three very different looks. Although after seeing that receding hairline, I’m beginning to understand why he wears the helmet.
