Battle For Subternia MOTU Core Wave 1 Official Images

Entertainment Earth has added official images for Mattel’s Masters of the Universe Battle for Subternia Core Wave 1 figures, featuring He-Man, Trap Jaw, and Evil-Lyn. We covered these figures when preorders first went live at Entertainment Earth, but now that we have the official images, I’m genuinely excited about this assortment!

When we first learned about the figures, I expected He-Man and Trap Jaw to be repaints of their previous MOTU Core releases. Boy, was I wrong! Mattel has given both characters new sculpts and completely different designs, and I couldn’t be happier about that. Evil-Lyn looks awesome too, especially with her new armor and headdress.

And let’s not forget the glow-in-the-dark accessories! I love that Mattel is doing something fun with a line designed primarily for kids. We’ve been following Battle for Subternia since our early reporting on the new subline, and these figures have turned out to be a lot cooler than I originally expected.

Official Details From Walmart

Evil-Lyn Official Images

Evil-Lyn might be my favorite figure in this wave! Her new sculpt includes a large headdress with a green skull at the center, dark armor, patterned leggings, and a long cape. The pale green scepter is glow-in-the-dark, and I really like how Mattel has incorporated that feature into her design.

Her headdress has pointed extensions and open sections surrounding the skull, while the chest armor and layered waist panels feature sculpted textures. The greenish-yellow skin, purple lips, and dark eye makeup work particularly well with the darker armor.

Evil-Lyn’s cape has a long, uneven hem, and her boots feature layered armor extending up toward the knees. Her scepter has a rounded top and ribbed grip, rather than the more familiar staff design.

I particularly like the combination of her armored headdress and cape, which gives this version a very different look.

He-Man Official Images

He-Man was another surprise. Instead of simply changing the colors of the existing Core figure, Mattel has given him a new chest harness with a large red H emblem, gray forearm armor, and brown waist armor with a wide front panel. His Power Sword is molded in translucent blue plastic for the glow-in-the-dark feature.

The new head sculpt features longer blond hair, blue eyes, and a serious expression. The chest harness has segmented shoulder straps and a raised central plate, while the waist armor features molded panels and a gray buckle.

He-Man’s redesigned Power Sword has a broad blade with angular details near the guard. The gray harness and brown armor are a departure from his traditional appearance, and I’m glad Mattel decided to do something different with him.

He-Man can hold the glowing Power Sword overhead in his familiar pose. The new forearm armor includes a rounded wrist guard on one arm and a larger angular piece on the other, continuing the redesigned armor across the figure.

Trap Jaw Official Images

Trap Jaw might have the biggest redesign of the three. Mattel has given him an oversized mechanical arm with a large shoulder assembly, a segmented forearm, and a claw attachment. His bright green face, pink helmet, and purple jaw contrast with the blue torso and dark gray armor.

The mechanical arm has a large circular shoulder section, raised spikes, and a claw with an opening at the end. Trap Jaw also includes a separate green glow-in-the-dark hook weapon, which can be held in his regular hand or positioned inside the mechanical claw.

This image highlights Trap Jaw’s interchangeable mechanical arm attachment, featuring a claw-like weapon with a translucent green energy effect. The glowing effect extends from the weapon, showing off one of the figure’s action features.

The mechanical arm is considerably larger than the one on the more traditional Trap Jaw design. His armored boots, dark gray loincloth, and green thigh panels continue the mechanical theme throughout the figure.

The large shoulder assembly has circular mechanical details, spikes, and a segmented section connecting it to the claw. There’s quite a bit of sculpted detail here for a figure in Mattel’s $12.99 kids’ assortment.

Here we get a closer look at Trap Jaw’s absolutely wild eyes! The bright yellow eyes, tiny pupils, and sharply angled eyebrows give him a completely crazed expression. His green face sculpt also features deep wrinkles, exposed teeth, and that familiar purple mechanical jaw. The translucent green hook attachment is shown fitted into his mechanical arm.
