We got our hands on Princess of Power Catra from the Masterverse line and wanted to share it with you all so please enjoy the photos! Back on March 15, 2022, Catra was revealed as part of Mattel’s Mid March assortment of new figures coming to the line and it’s great to see her in real life! This is the first figure in the Masterverse PoP line, which is surprising as we thought She-Ra would kick off the line but Catra was a delight to be able to purchase early so we could show her off!
Box and Art
With the new Masterverse figures coming out, you can see the 40th Anniversary sticker in the upper left corner and the beautiful, bold, and bright Princess of Power logo, which is the first time we’ve seen this logo in use since the announcement of the line way back at Power Con 2021.
Side Art and Back Box Art
Catra looks absolutely beautiful in her feline inspired outfit! On the side art of the package, Catra with her “claws” ready to strike! The back features Catra wielding her Cat faced shield and holding her green jeweled staff up in the air with the beautiful purple red sunset Eternia sky in the background.
The figure really leans into the Filmation version of Catra from an animated and concept art perspective. As with many of the PoP figures, there is not a lot to say about her clothing as there is not much of it! She is wearing her classic red mini dress with a Horde symbol in the middle of her chest and a Horde belt! The official images are a little misleading as the finishes on her chest and belt detail looked shiny but the figure, in actuality, has more of a matte finish with a small sheen to the features on her chest and belt, which are a different shade of red. As we see more and more PoP figures revealed (like Shadow Weaver and She-Ra), the Masterverse line keeps upping their game with supplying soft goods capes with their Princess of Power figures, which is a very nice touch.
Weapons and Accessories
Catra comes with a removable soft good cape, a removable mask, a silver shield with a cat face on it (how apropos…MEOW!), an extra set of hands and silver scepter with a green jewel.
MOTU Classics Comparison
The MOTU Classics and the Masterverse versions are actually very similar to each other, which is great if you missed out on the Classics line! They both feature Catra in the same dress and cape and the only real difference lies in the soft goods and the weapons and accessories pack outs. Although, there is one huge nit that you will see in the photo without her mask (see below)!
The Masterverse version of Catra comes with a soft goods cape, which is a nice touch and feels more premium over her plastic cape that came with her Classics version. Be careful as her soft good cape is clipped into to the box and it may have holes in it from that.
Face on, Catra looks very similar her MOTU Classics counterpart with obvious differences in the face and hair sculpts.
Catra’s Masterverse hair is more subdued and tame versus the MOTU Classics version!
The weapons pack outs are different and the Masterverse version comes with less, which is understandable as this figure is not deluxe and it is a standard pack out.
Wait for it!!!! Yes! You can’t have Catra without her mask, which is a shame! The MOTU Classics version used compression to keep her red mask on but there was a fatal design decision made to but a large slit in her head to keep her mask on. OUCH!
