Phobos and Orange Time Traveler Micronauts Super7 ReAction+ Review

I’ve been wanting to take a closer look at these two Micronauts ReAction+ figures from Super7 , and getting Phobos and the Orange Time Traveler side by side really lets you appreciate what this line is doing for the 50th anniversary. Starting with the Time Traveler, the translucent orange plastic is clean and lets you see through to the interior structure of the figure, which is a nice callback to the original Mego Micronauts toys from the late ’70s where those clear, colorful bodies were such a huge part of the appeal. The silver metallic head and removable vac-metal chest piece add just enough contrast to keep it from reading flat, and the chest panel being interchangeable is a small touch that nods to the mix-and-match DNA of the vintage line. Phobos is a different beast entirely. As Biotron’s evil twin, the dual-faced robotic head sculpt is the centerpiece here, and the silver metallic paint on those two visages does a solid job echoing the original toy’s look. The detachable treadpack is a welcome inclusion and gives you some display options. Both figures sit at 4″ scale with 12 points of articulation, which is a step up from standard ReAction figures and puts them more in line with the posability you’d actually want for these designs. The card-back artwork pulling from the Micronauts comic series is a nice touch for carded collectors too. Huge thanks to Big Bad Toy Store for sending this Phobos and Orange Time Traveler over for review, and if they have been on your must have list, you can still grab them now at Big Bad Toy Store.

Orange TIme Traveler

The card art is gorgeous, with a painted Time Traveler in red and silver racing through a cosmic landscape with a dark planet and nebula clouds behind him. It’s clearly inspired by the Micronauts comic series, and Super7 nailed the retro sci-fi feel of the original packaging.

The card back features a great retro-style tech spec bio for the Time Traveler, complete with a stat chart covering Strength, Intelligence, Speed, Endurance, Courage, and Skill. The bio reads: “Function: Time Observer. The Time Travelers can move forward and backward in time. They see possible futures, and when they detect a threat to the Microverse, they take steps to counter that threat. In their Temple of Time, they sift through clues and formulate strategies.”

Straight on, you get the full front view of the Time Traveler, and the orange body has a really nice clarity to it that lets you see the internal pin joints and connection points through the material. The silver vac-metal chest piece is the centerpiece of the whole design, with its sculpted mechanical detailing framed between those crisp white gloves and boots.

From the side, you get a great look at how the white gloves and boots contrast against the red body of the Time Traveler. The silver vac-metal chest piece has some nice sculpted detail with a mechanical texture that pairs well against the smooth surfaces of the rest of the body.

From the back, you can see the internal mechanics through the body, including the o-ring connector between the torso and waist. The silver vac-metal head has nicely sculpted hair detail, and the white gloves and boots bookend the figure cleanly at each end.

From this profile view, the silver vac-metal head has a clean sculpted brow line and jawline that give it a classic retro sci-fi look. The chrome chest piece sits flush against the torso, with its mechanical detailing creating a nice break between the smooth upper and lower body sections.

I love that the o-ring construction on the Time Traveler gives it a really wide range of movement you don’t typically get from a retro-styled figure at this scale. The white gloves and boots stay clean against the red body even with the joints flexed, which is a nice touch.

Phobos

The card art is a great piece, showing Phobos towering against an explosive backdrop of fire and crumbling rock, his silver robotic face sculpted with horns and a gritted mechanical jaw. It’s clearly influenced by the Micronauts comic series, and the dramatic red border framing the whole card gives it a real vintage toy aisle feel.

The back of the card features individual photos of every figure in the wave, including Baron Karza, Emperor, Phobos, Biotron, Force Commander, Microtron, and three Time Traveler variants. Below that is Phobos’s tech spec card, which reads: “Function: Ignoble Minion. Very little is known of the mysterious Phobos. Constructed in secrecy with the unique specifications and capabilities of Biotron. Phobos features a distinct robotic head with two different visages. He ferociously serves in the battle against Microtron and the Micronauts.”

From the back, Phobos has a chunky black torso with a dark panel running down the center, flanked by red arms and red upper legs that transition into hefty black lower legs. The silver metallic hands and that horned helmet head really pop against the red and black color blocking.

From the side, you get a good look at the treadpack mounted on Phobos’s back, which clips on like an old school GI Joe backpack and has a chunky sculpted tread running along its length. The red chest and arm sections have some nice panel line detailing that’s easy to miss from the front.

From this side, you get a clear look at how the red arm connects at the shoulder with a visible screw joint, and the chest panel has a recessed rectangular detail with etched horizontal lines. The tread section of the treadpack sits right against the torso here, and you can really appreciate how chunky those sculpted tread wheels are up close.

I love this shot because it really drives home the dual-face gimmick, with the alternate face staring right back at you from the rear, it’s genuinely hard to tell if Phobos is coming or going. That chunky black torso and those red arms read the same from either direction, which only adds to the confusion.

Here’s how Phobos comes packed, with the default face featuring the gritted mechanical jaw and horned helmet facing forward. You can see a Time Traveler figure tucked in beside him on the card.

If you turn the head around, you get a totally different look, as Phobos has an alternate face sculpted on the back with a completely different expression and mechanical detailing. The silver metallic finish carries across both faces, and those ridged horns wrap the whole helmet design together nicely.

The track and the front canopy pop off independently. It’s a nice little modular touch that gives you some options for how you want to display him.

Here’s a close-up of the two treadpack components separated out. The track base has a detailed front face with sculpted circular ports and ribbed venting, while the canopy piece has a smooth, angular shape with a small fin rising off the top.

Here’s a closer look at the underside of the tread base, which has a flat, utilitarian surface with recessed rectangular channels running its length. The canopy sits beside it, showing off its boxy, enclosed shape with a sculpted hatch detail on top.
