I love it when the community comes through like this, and @turtlechris82 came through with some great in-hand shots of the Wave 4 200x MOTU Origins Cartoon Collection. If you’ve been following the 200x aesthetic in the Origins line, this is the wave that a lot of us have been waiting on, and seeing these figures out of packaging really lets you appreciate what Mattel has been doing with these sculpts. The 200x era has such a distinct visual identity compared to the vintage or Filmation looks, and these figures lean into that energy with angular armor designs, more aggressive headsculpts, and paint applications that reflect the Mike Young Productions animation style. From what I can see in these photos, the proportions and detailing translate well to the Origins body, and the accessories look solid across the board. The color choices feel faithful to how these characters appeared on screen, which is something 200x fans tend to be pretty particular about, myself included. It’s one thing to see official product shots and solicitation images, but there’s nothing quite like community in-hand photos to give you a real sense of scale, plastic quality, and shelf presence. Scroll through below and get a good look at what’s coming for your 200x Origins display.

Packaging

As seen from a quick trip the Mattel Store, we can see Orko, Teela, and Mer-Man! It’s cool to see @turtlechris82 grab all three together like this, giving a nice sense of the wave’s color variety across the figures given that these are the actual production figures and not official images.

We have not seen this before but the card back artwork for Mer-Man depicts him in his 200x design, clutching a golden trident amid an underwater scene with a massive green sea creature looming behind him. Man-At-Arms in underwater scuba gear is also there and Orko in a classic deep sea divers helmet, tying the illustration to “The Deep End” episode.

Figure Details

Mer-Man stands with both his golden trident and coral-textured sword, showing off the full weapon loadout. The brown loincloth with its yellow fin-shaped front piece and the turquoise gem accents on his chest and kneepads really pop against the teal skin tone.

From the back, Mer-Man’s gold armor piece covers the upper back with sculpted vertebrae-like ridging running down the center spine. The brown loincloth has a pleated texture with jagged, fin-shaped edges along the bottom hem, and his tail hangs down naturally alongside his leg.

Orko floats on a clear display stand, dressed in his red robe with yellow trim at the belt, sleeves, and hemline, along with a pink scarf and that signature pointed hat with pale blue ear-like fins poking out. The translucent blue magic effect pieces attached to both hands have a great look to them, with wispy, energy effect that catch the light nicely.

From the back, Orko’s pink scarf drapes down with sculpted folds that give the soft fabric a sense of movement. The yellow trim lining the bottom edge of his robe carries all the way around cleanly, and the hat’s curled tip has a nice whimsical shape to it from this angle.

Teela is outfitted with her gold and white bodice featuring an intricate raised pattern across the chest, paired with a petal-shaped gold skirt and metallic green belt. Her cobra staff is a solid yellow piece with a nice hooded snake sculpt at the top, and those brown boots with swirling green and white knee guards are a great design touch.

From the back, Teela’s red hair cascades in a thick, S-shaped ponytail that extends well past her waist, with a smooth sculpted flow to it. A small olive-green pouch sits attached to the gold skirt at the waist, a nice little detail that’s easy to miss from the front.

In Package Images of Teela and Orko

It’s cool to see these production figures courtesy of @darthroguesgallery, as up until now we’ve only had official images to go by. Both Orko and Teela are carded here on the Cartoon Collection packaging, with the classic Castle Grayskull artwork framing each figure behind the plastic blister, and it sounds like these are already hitting Kmart shelves in Australia.

The back of Orko’s card features artwork inspired by the “Lessons” episode, depicting him in his red robes and hat casting a spell against a serpentine creature, with blue magical energy swirling between them. The bottom of the card shows small illustrations of other figures in the wave, including Teela and Mer-Man alongside Orko.

The back of Teela’s card showcases artwork inspired by “The Ties That Bind,” depicting her standing on rocky terrain in her white and gold outfit with a fur-trimmed loincloth, staff in hand, while a serpentine creature lurks behind her. Small illustrations of other figures in the wave, including Orko and Mer-Man, line the bottom of the card.

Teela 200x MOTU Origins Cartoon Colllection Card Back

The card back artwork placed side by side gives a nice look at the full illustrations for both figures. I like how you can spot Mekaneck and the Sorceress worked into the background of each scene, with Mekaneck appearing in the jungle fending off a creature and the Sorceress floating above the action on Teela’s card back.
