Wave 5 MOTU Origins 200x Cartoon Collection In-Hand Review

I’ve been wanting to take a closer look at Wave 5 of the MOTU Origins 200x Cartoon Collection, and with all four figures in hand, there’s a lot to dig into across this set. We’re getting Buzz Off, Keldor, Webstor, and a deluxe Whiplash, and as a whole this wave leans into some of the more visually distinct 200x redesigns that made that Mike Young Productions era so memorable. Buzz Off immediately stands out with that more insectoid, armored look compared to his vintage counterpart, and the head sculpt carries a lot of the aggressive detailing from the cartoon. Keldor is always a welcome addition in any line, and seeing him here in Origins scale with the dual swords and that pre-Skeletor color scheme gives us another crack at a version of the character that collectors have chased across Classics and Masterverse already. Webstor gets the 200x treatment with a heavier, more monstrous build that suits the way he was portrayed in the show, while the deluxe Whiplash comes with the extra parts and accessories you’d expect from that price tier, leaning into his bulkier 200x design with a tail that really sells the figure’s silhouette on the shelf. Across the wave, the deco work pulls from the show’s palette pretty faithfully, and the sculpted detail level continues to push what Origins can do at this scale. Huge thanks to Big Bad Toy Store for sending this Wave 5 MOTU Origins 200x Cartoon Collection over for review, and if they have been on your must have list, you can still grab them now at Big Bad Toy Store.

MOTU Origins 200x Cartoon Collection Wave 5

Here’s a great group shot showing how Keldor, Buzz-Off, Webstor, and Whiplash scale together in this wave. Whiplash towers over the rest of the group with that massive frame, while Buzz-Off’s gold armor and wing panels hold their own nicely against Webstor’s purple insectoid sculpt.

Buzz-Off

The front of the card features a great illustration of Buzz-Off filling the entire background, with his insectoid features and striped armor really jumping out against the fiery sky. On the back, you get a full comic-style scene from “Buzz-Off’s Pride” with Keldor and Webstor also pictured in the wave lineup along the bottom.

Front and back views give you a full look at Buzz-Off’s yellow and brown striped torso armor, with those curved mandible-like extensions flanking his head and the twin antennae rising from the crown. The wings have sculpted vein detailing running through each panel, and they attach cleanly at the upper back between the shoulder blades.

You get a good sense of the color breaks here, with the brown torso stripes wrapping around a yellow chest plate and the pale skin tone of the arms and legs offering a clean contrast. His feet have sculpted insectoid claws that match the brown of the mandibles and head shell, tying the whole design together nicely.

The axe accessory has a large crescent blade with a ringed detail where the head meets the shaft, and it’s a chunky, satisfying sculpt. That small cyan emblem on the belt buckle is a nice little pop of color against all the brown and yellow.

Keldor

Here’s a look at both sides of Keldor’s card. The front artwork depicts a stone serpent archway framing a fiery red and orange sky, while the back features a detailed battle scene illustration with Keldor clashing against a sword-wielding warrior in a castle interior.

Front and back views of Keldor show his purple shoulder armor with layered, ridged plating that wraps over each shoulder, and a four-pointed chest emblem with a gem set in the center. The cape drapes with soft goods-like folds from behind, and the back of his head shows black hair with two white streaks running down the length.

These side profile views let you really appreciate the sculpted belt detail, with its round medallion and layered leather-like strapping wrapping around the waist. The cape has a nice weight to it and falls in natural folds from the jagged shoulder armor down past the knees.

Keldor’s dual swords have ornate crossguards with sculpted detailing along the hilts, and the blades taper to sharp, curved points. That chest emblem with the pink gem really pops against the purple and grey color palette of the armor.

Webstor

Webstor’s card front uses a green stone dungeon background with web-like textures carved into the walls, a nice departure from the other cards in the wave. The back artwork shows him in full spider form descending through a web-filled cavern, and it’s one of the more dramatic card back illustrations I’ve seen in this line.

Two back-angle views of Webstor really show off the spider leg harness attached to his back, with six curved, segmented limbs fanning out from a central carapace piece. The red wrist and shin wraps break up all that purple nicely, and you can spot the star-shaped chest emblem peeking through from the front.

Front and back views of Webstor highlight the full extent of that spider leg harness, with each limb featuring sculpted segmented joints that taper into sharp, hooked tips. The clawed feet have a great three-toed sculpt with textured skin detail running up the shins, and that fur loincloth has individually sculpted tufts with a ragged edge.

Whiplash

Here’s Whiplash’s packaging front and back together. The back features a bold character illustration from the “Underworld” episode alongside smaller images of Clawful and Roboto as other figures in the wave.

Whiplash MOTU Origins 200x Cartoon Collection Review 1

The front of Whiplash’s box uses a fiery red and orange gradient with a large character illustration showing his reptilian features, fanged snarl, and ribbed torso in full detail. You can see the figure through the window alongside his tail, and the side panel carries a second illustration showing him from behind with that signature curled tail.

Both sides of the included mini card are shown here, with the front featuring a full character illustration of Whiplash in a comic-style rendering with his ribbed torso and snarling expression. The back card depicts Castle Grayskull engulfed in fiery energy, along with the character’s bio text tying him to Subternia.

Whiplash MOTU Origins 200x Cartoon Collection Review 5

Front and back views of Whiplash give you a full look at his olive green skin, with sculpted spikes jutting from the shoulders, forearms, and the mace-like club at the end of his tail. The orange belt buckle has a spiral emblem at its center, and the blue segmented loincloth and shin guards break up all that green with a solid color contrast.

Whiplash MOTU Origins 200x Cartoon Collection Review 3

These side profile views of Whiplash really let you appreciate the sculpted ridges running down the spine and the way the tail extends out with those spiked nodules lining the entire length. The necklace of bone-like teeth wrapping around his neck is a great character detail I didn’t notice from the front.
