Figure Speculation

Our bread and butter at Toy Habits is being able to predict what figures we might see drop in March 2024! We have a long list of information we have rerecieved from various sources so we are going to compile them here! The goal with this type of speculation is not to see if we are 100% right, but to have fun and think about the future of MOTU!

MOTU Origins

Here are the potential MOTU Origins figures we could see go up for preorder during March Madness 2024.

Reptilax

Reptilax can seen in multiple locations of the Camo Khan Card art. Illustrated standing by King Hiss’ throne and also coming thru a portal with Camo Khan, Lord Gr’asp & Terroar along with Reptilax, an unproduced Classics concept, look ready to attack. With Reptilax making an appearance on Lady Slither’s card art will make his second tease.

Reptilax is another figure Axel designed using a character who appeared in the vintage mini-comics. And he’s also appeared in Origins materials – both on Kol-Darr’s card and in the Camo Khan comic as well as the card art. However, other than parts from He-Man and King Hiss, he requires parts from Tuvar (Two Bad has been teased but yet to be released and Laser Light Skeletor plus he uses parts from Fang Man. While he could be a way for Mattel to work their way to Fang Man and is a reuse of Tuvar parts, which gives them more use out of the eventual Two-Bad figure which itself has limited re-uses.

As designed in the MOTU Classics line, Vypor would reuse parts from Snake Face, Lord Dactus and Prahvus but he would need new armor, a new head and a new neck piece. What does make him a possibility is that his head sculpt is inspired by the Snake Tower from the Eternia playset, which comes out in 2024. Also as Mattel goes deeper into 200x , we could see Lord Dactus (who’s trademark was recently renewed by Mattel) and Prahvus as possible figures they could make out of Vypor., who are are both unique characters to that era of MOTU and strong contenders for figures for the MOTU Origins line.

Here is a custom concept of Vypor, from the MOTU Classics line, created by the talented Orsogranito Granitebear Shop! You can see the nods to Viper Tower with the shape of the Snake Head , the chains, and the manta spy!

Lord Gr’asp

Since Lord Gr’asp was announced as a MOTU Origins Walmart exclusive figure back on October 3, 2023, we’ve been searching hi and low for the official images and we finally struck pay dirt! Lord Gr’asp was supposed to be released as part of the MOTU spinoff line, the Powers of Grayskull, but the line was canceled in 1987 with many unproduced figures left on the drawing board! Lord Gra’sp was one of these figures and he is a mashup and a reuse of parts from several iconic Masters of the Universe figures. Originally one of several unnamed characters planned for the 1988 wave of the Masters of the Universe toyline, the character appeared on unreleased Mattel cardback artwork illustrated by Errol McCarthy. In 2017, the character was given the name Lord Gr’Asp and released as part of a three-pack with Terroar and Plasmar. Given that we saw King Grayskull and Moaty the Moat Monster using the Powers of Grayskull branding, it would be amazing if Lord Gras’p was carded as he was intended for the cancelled line.

Lord Gra’sp is made from the basic MOTU Origins body, Scareglow’s cape, Clawful’s claw, and Sssqueeze’s head. His paint app is black and yellow with mint chip green accessories.

Terroar

Terroar, another unproduced Masters of the Universe figure from the cancelled Powers of Grasykull line, is getting another life as a MOTU Origins figure in the scale it was intended to have back in 1987.

Terroar has a purple and black paint app with red on his oversized neck extension. He is a mashup of Whiplash, Trap Jaw, Rattlor, and Mosquitor.

Cartoon Collection

Here are the potential Cartoon Collection figures we could see go up for preorder during March Madness 2024.

Clawful

Everyone’s favorite Evil Warrior Langostino, Clawful is coming to the MOTU Origins Cartoon Collection. He’ll be joining Evil-Lyn and Tri-Klops in 2024! Known as the Warrior with the grip of evil, Clawful was one of Skeletor’s bumbling idiot henchmen that appeared in 7 episodes of the Filmation cartoon. According to an anonymous source, Clawful will be coming to the Cartoon Collection in 2024 and we will likely also see him revealed during MOTU March Madness 2024. While a source has revealed that he is coming to the line, we are speculating as to what episode they will be paying homage to and what Filmation accessory he will come packed with. Also, given that the Cartoon Collection is pairing a Heroic Warrior with an Evil Warrior in each wave, only time will tell which figure Clawful will be paired with. So let’s take a look at Clawful, what he might look like and what his potential episode specific accessory might be!

Spikor

In addition to Evil-Lyn, Tri-Klops, and Clawful, we’ve received some intel that Spikor is coming to the MOTU Origins Cartoon Collection. The Untouchable Master of Evil Combat who has a trident for a left hand is joining the Evil Warriors Cartoon Collection crew! Having only appeared in 3 episodes of the He-Man and the Masters of the Universe Filmation cartoon from the 1980’s, we have a 1 in 3 chance of guessing which episode Mattel would pay homage to with his accessories.

Webstor

Webstor will be coming to the MOTU Origins Cartoon Collection and he’ll will be joining Evil-Lyn, Tri-Klops , Clawful and Spikor . Dubbed The Evil Master of Escape, Webstor was only featured in a handful of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe Filmation episodes and he also made a cameo, with Kobra Khan, in the She-Ra and the Princess of Power. As Mattel was introducing more figures to the line via the cartoon, the episode that featured Webstor aired close to his toy release in the 1980’s. Many of the beloved characters, like Moss Man and others, have only appeared in a handful of episodes, it made narrowing down the show Mattel might pull from to pay homage to easier as he was prominently featured as a main villain! Let’s get to know Webstor or, as Skeletor affectionately calls him, bug face! So let’s take a look at Webstor, what he might look like, and what his potential episode specific accessory might be!

Evil-Lyn

Get ready for the Evil Warrior Goddess to grace the MOTU Origins Cartoon Collection. Described by Skeletor as his “right hand of evil,” Evil-Lyn is both his greatest ally and worst enemy. According to an anonymous source, Evil-Lyn will be coming to the Cartoon Collection in 2024 and we will likely see her revealed during MOTU March Madness 2024. If you recall, last year during mid-March, the MOTU team dropped a ton of figures we saw in 2023. While a source as revealed that she is coming to the line, we are speculating as to what episode they will be payong homage to and what Filmation accessory she’ll be packed with. Also, given that the Cartoon Collection is pairing a Heroic Warrior with an Evil Warrior in each wave, only time will tell which figure Evil-Lyn will be paired with.

Evil-Lyn Filmation’s Appearance

The only female member of the Evil Warriors, she is an evil witch who aids Skeletor as his second-in-command with her powers of darkness. Her Filmation appearance colors were dark purple with blue accents. Her helmet is colored in black to match her cape and there are purple and blue tie-ins that match her outfit.

Tri-Klops

Tri-Klops, Skeletor’s Evil Warrior that sees everything is coming to the MOTU Origins Cartoon Collection! Tri-Klops was one of Skeletor’s bumbling idiot henchmen that appeared in 10 episodes of the Filmation cartoon. According to an anonymous source, Tri-Klops will be coming to the Cartoon Collection in 2024 and we will likely also see him revealed during MOTU March Madness 2024. While a source as revealed that he is coming to the line, we are speculating as to what episode they will be paying homage to and what Filmation accessory he will come packed with. Mer-Man-MOTU-Origins-Cartoon-Collection-Wave-4

Mer-Man was depicted as a member of Skeletor’s Evil Warriors, a group of villains dedicated to overthrowing Castle Grayskull and conquering Eternia. He was often portrayed as a loyal and cunning servant of Skeletor, utilizing his aquatic abilities and commanding sea creatures to aid in their evil plans. Mer-Man’s presence in the Filmation MOTU series added depth and excitement to the ongoing conflicts between He-Man and Skeletor. His underwater abilities and role as a loyal henchman made him an iconic and memorable part of the Masters of the Universe animated universe.

Mer-Man-Filmation-2

Original Mer-Man Figure (1982): The first Mer-Man action figure was released in the initial wave of Masters of the Universe toys in 1982. Mer-Man was depicted as a green-skinned creature with webbed feet and hands. He wore a chest harness and carried a trident as his weapon. In the accompanying animated series, Mer-Man served as one of Skeletor’s henchmen, using his aquatic abilities to aid in his evil schemes. As seen below, Super7 made a vintage Filmation figure paying homage to his cartoon appearance.

Turtles of Grayskull

Here are the potential Turtles of Grayskull figures we could see go up for preorder during March Madness 2024.

Masterverse

Here are the potential Masterverse figures we could see go up for preorder during March Madness 2024.

Masterverse Wave 13

Thanks to an anonymous source, we know the next five figures that are coming to the Masterverse line, which will make up Wave 13! The next figures to be announced for the Masterverse line include two heroic warriors and three members of the infamous Horde faction! Thunder Punch He-Man and Sky-Klone are slotted to fill the heroic warrior slots and Emperor Hordak, Leech and a deluxe Horde Trooper are slotted to fill the baddies and breathe some life into the Horde/Princess of Power Masterverse subline.

Thunder Punch He-Man

To take you way back in time, Thunder Punch He-Man was originally released in 1985, in Wave 4 of the vintage Masters of the Universe Line.

Thunder-Punch He Man Vinatge MOC
Thunder Punch He-Man Masters of the Universe 1985

According to The Battle Ram:

Thunder Punch He-Man was the “deluxe” version of He-Man that everyone in my grade school peer group coveted. The counterpart to Dragon Blaster Skeletor, Thunder Punch He-Man had a new an exciting action feature – you could load a ring of caps (of the kind typically used in toy revolvers of the era) into his backpack, twist his waist back, and he would spring forward with a power punch and a loud bang. It was quite the upgrade over the power punch feature typical of the line.

It was quite the upgrade over the power punch feature typical of the line.

Sculpt wise, the figure featured all new parts apart from the head and sword. The legs were based on the original, but he was given bigger feet to make him more stable. The sculpt unfortunately on the arms and torso is a bit soft and unfinished looking compared to the original. Befitting his action feature, his right fist is closed, ready at any time for a thunder punch. He also has painted bracers, something previous versions didn’t get.

His boots have white fur tops, which was actually how He-Man had been previously illustrated by Rudy Obrero and R.L. Allen. Earl Norem would occasionally depict him like that as well

He has a new harness design, sculpted onto the chest rather than as a separate piece. He keeps the “H” logo that first appeared on Battle Armor He-Man, and which also appeared on the side of the Dragon Walker and on Flying Fists He-Man. The symbol looks like a blend between an H and an M.

MOTU Classics Version

Thunder Punch He-Man was also developed for the Masters of the Universe Classics line. His description when he was released read “Might makes right, and it’s lights out for anyone who battles this beefy bruiser! Thunder Punch™ He-Man® is back to fight the good fight, and he kicks it up a notch by calling on the Powers of Grayskull™ to strengthen his weapons, giving him even more bang for the buck!” He came with removable chest armor, a power sword, shield, a thunder punch effect, a “cap” accessory, and a 30th anniversary mini comic! (#1 in a series of 3).

Thunder-Punch-He-Man-MOTU-Classices-1

His MOTU Classics bio reads: “When Skeletor banished Randor to Despondos, he used Faker to convince the royal court that He-Man was not only a Gar, but also responsible for the King’s “death.” This ruse turned the people of Eternia against He-Man and the Masters soon became renegades in their own land. Driving to the underground caves of Tundoria, the Masters reformed as an elite attack squad. They returned to the surface and found not only Skeletor ruling Eternia, but King Hssss and a newly returned Hordak also challenging for control. To enhance his strength for these new battles ahead, He-Man used the Powers of Grayskull to energize his weapons, giving them a new Thunder Punch to combat evil!”

Sy-Klone

Sy-Klone was introduced into the Masters of the Universe toy line in 1985. Given that the cartoon series was drawing to a close by the time he was introduced, his role in the show is so brief as to be almost nonexistent. He appears only in minor, fleeting cameo appearances in two episodes: “Beauty and the Beast” and “Here, There, Skeletors Everywhere”.

Sy-Klone-Masters-of-the-Universe-Vintage-Illustration

MOTU Classics Version

Sy-Klone was produced in the MOTU Classics line 2011. He sported the classic yellow and blue paint app and his lenticular sticker in the middle of his chest. They also added a yellow sheild to his arensal a red hulahoop (kidding!!!) looking cyclone ring.

Sy-Klone-MOTU-Classices-1

Sy-Klone’s MOTU Classics bio reads: “Protector of the Legacy Stones and the Last Defender of Anwat Gar, Sy-Klone joined the Masters of the Universe alter the Stones were destroyed and his mission completed. He wears the last remaining TECH vest Armor created by his Gar ancestors to terrorize Eternia alter the Great Wars. Its built-in wind rockers allow the user to create powerful vortexes of spinning energy as a defensive weapon or to fly through the air. Sy-Klone has upgraded his Armor to also include cosmic radar which lets him sense the physical presence of evil long before others. Sy-Klone’s wind Powers and radar Cheste make him combat ready!”

His torso will still pop off and he actually spins. He comes with 2 extra hands that are tornados, shield, red cyclone rings like what came with the MOTU Classics figure. Sy-Klone Masters of the Universe Origins Vintage Comparison

Emperor Hordak

We know that Hordak will play a major role in the upcoming Masters of the Universe Revolution Netflix series and we’ve seen his animated form in promos from Mattel! We are speculating that the Emperor Hordak figure will likely fall into the Masters of the Universe Revolution subline given the impending release of the series and there was no former MOTU figure by that name.

Emperor-Hordak-Masterverse-Masters-of-the-Universe-Revolution

Given the oversized armor and stature of Hordak, we are guessing that he will be developed like Skelegod and be an oversized deluxe figure.

Emperor-Hordak-Masterverse-Masters-of-the-Universe-Revolution-2

Leech

A member of the Evil Horde, he is an amphibian-like creature, of a large and bulky build with green skin and suction pads on his hands, feet and mouth. It is these suction pads that provide him with his main power: to suck and drain the life-force from his opponent, rendering them helpless against him.

Leech-Masters-of-the-Universe-Vintage-Illustration

Vintage Figure

Leech was released in the Masters of the Universe line in 1984 and appeared in the She-Ra and the Princess of Power Filmation cartoon. Like other MOTU figures, like Clawful, Leech did not fully resemble his cartoon appearance.

Leech-Masters-of-the-Universe-Vintage-Card-Front
Leech-Masters-of-the-Universe-Vintage-Card-Back

Leech appears in animated form in She-Ra: Princess of Power, in which the Horde are the main villains. He is regularly seen among the main Horde members, but rarely showcases his power suction ability and receives generally little character development and no episodes feature him in a spotlight role.

MOTU Classics Version

Leech was procuded for the Masters of the Universe Classics line in 2011.

Leech-MOTU-Classices-1

Leech’s bio reads: “A Slebetor Slug-man from deep in the Lake of Gnarl, Leech was called from the depths by a magic spell of Hordak to bolster his forces against King Grayskull and the Snake Men during the Great Wars. Mindwiped by Hordak’s lead witch, Leech became a loyal member of his Horde Army, using his magically enhanced energy-draining powers to suck enemies of their strength. He later played a key role in the Horde’s fight against the Great Rebellion after Hordak claimed Etheria as a new homeworld during their banishment in Despondos. When called upon in battle, Leech sucks the power from his enemies!”

Leech-MOTU-Classices-Card-Front

Deluxe Horde Trooper

Horde Troopers are foot soldiers of the Horde Empire. Although each trooper is individually unremarkable, in large numbers they are used to great effect in the occupation of Etheria by Hordak. Vast armies of Horde Troopers were also used during the Horde’s failed invasion of Eternia. The early Horde Trooper concepts look nothing like the vintage toy. As the Battle Ram Blog states, “As Mattel and Filmation worked very closely on the She-Ra series and its characters and concepts, the Horde Trooper concept is a no-brainer. An army for the main villain in the series, as well as a collect-your-own-army idea from toy marketing POV. In the script and concept, as well as the storyboard for Into Etheria, we get a look at an early design, which gives the characters a heavily-armored and barbaric look. It’s clear that these troopers (or Hordesmen) are organic beings. One is human with a scar on his face, another is reptilian, and the third is a hawk hordesman.”

In a more futuristic illustration, the Horde Trooper looks a lot like the modern day Roboto figure as Mattel iterated the concept to look more futuristic.

As the concepts for the Horde Trooper progressed, the design closely resembles the vintage figure we all know and love.

The Horde Trooper vintage figure, and subsequent designs, stayed true to the final concept so we are excited to get a new iteration of the Horde Trooper for the Masterverse line.

MOTU Classics Version

The Horde Trooper was released as a single carded figure and as part of a Horde Trooper 2-pack.

Horde-Trooper-MOTU-Classices-1

The Horde Trooper’s MOTU Classics bio reads: In his factories on Etheria and later Eternia, Hordak mass produces countless robotic enforcers. Each is dressed in armor similar to the foot soldiers of his home planet Horde World. Linked to a central computer brain, Horde Troopers can be programmed to follow any evil command they are given. With the robotic strength to overpower all enemies of his empire, Hordak’s troopers are more than a match for most enemies. On command from their master, the vicious troopers attack heroic warriors until He-Man lands a powerful punch – causing them to fall apart!”

MOTU Classics Alternate Heads

The cool aspect of the MOTU Classics line brought MOTU goodies as extra packins and accessories for other figures. For example, the Horde Trooper had three alternate head designs packed in with the General Sundar figure. For example, here is the Marine Trooper alternate head! Given that we know the Horde Trooper will be a deluxe figure in the Masterverse line, we hope that he comes with alternate heads like he did in the past.

Here is the alternate head for the appearance of the Horde Trooper in the Secret of the Sword.

Here is the alternate head as the Horde Trooper appeared in the DC comics line.
